Cold Cases in Nh

...Major Crime Unit : NH State Police Summer Internship | Heating up: Cold Cases | Meredythe Leonard | | Heating Up: Cold Cases Countless developments in police science have occurred in the past decade or so. Many of these improvements can be seen as small, but imagine the challenges faced by crime scene investigators 50 or more years ago. The law enforcement agencies of the past did not have routine access to the amount information that officials today can gather and analyze from a crime scene. Current day crime scene investigation can range from the downright tedious to the technologically astounding, but they have all greatly impacted how evidence is collected, documented, and analyzed. There are around one hundred unsolved homicides in New Hampshire alone, dating back to the early 1960’s. (Department of Justice, 2015). Evidence from those crimes could quite possibly be the golden ticket in solving the wrongdoing, but with outdated techniques and capabilities, the answer will remain a mystery. If the state makes older evidence testing a priority, cold cases could finally find the justice deserved with the help of current day technology. Throughout the rest of this discussion, the call for new evidence testing in cold cases is examined while highlighting the need and importance for skilled investigators. Determination and patience, in the advancing field of forensic testing, have unlocked numerous cases not only in New Hampshire, but also across the country...

The Dark Side of Authority

...1007/s10551-007-9358-8 Ó Springer 2007 The Dark Side of Authority: Antecedents, Mechanisms, and Outcomes of Organizational Corruption Ruth V. Aguilera Abhijeet K. Vadera ABSTRACT. Corruption poisons corporations in America and around the world, and has devastating consequences for the entire social fabric. In this article, we focus on organizational corruption, described as the abuse of authority for personal benefit, and draw on Weber’s three ideal-types of legitimate authority to develop a theoretical model to better understand the antecedents of different types of organizational corruption. Specifically, we examine the types of business misconduct that organizational leaders are likely to engage in, contingent on their legitimate authority, motives, and justifications. We conclude by suggesting managerial implications of our theoretical model and propose directions for future research. KEY WORDS: authority, bureaucracy, corruption, opportunity, motivation, justification, types of organizational corruption, weber, white-collar crime The issue of corruption has been gaining increasing importance in today’s world. The World Bank has singled out corruption as the largest obstacle to economic and social development, and in our search of the word ‘corruption’ in article headings in The Wall Street Journal in 2004, the word appeared 496 times. Much evidence also suggests that corruption is as ancient as disloyalty and greed, particularly in the context of politics. For example, in a fourth...

...social behavioral problems in the work place. Everyone is shaped by his or her experiences because of company culture, unique situations, personal history, and other individuals they work with. We all learn and grow as we learn through these experiences…… Story 1 – But Some Animals Are More Equal Than Others Summary of Material Our first story talks about the fact that there is a hierarchy of executives, managers, and workers within an organization. If we are well socialized in an organizational culture, we can see why certain people hold the jobs they have within that company. Usually, it is because they have certain special attributes which make them a good “fit” for that job. Therefore, we can attribute the abilities and motives of managers as the reason they have been given (earned?) the jobs which they now have. This perception can be self-fulfilling. That is to say, “the company must know what they’re doing or that person wouldn’t be doing it.” There are also symbols, rituals, and myths which help to explain attributions of...

Leadership

...Leadership Integration Project Assignment Team Leadership Competency Pulkit Jaiswal MA in Leadership (Health) Trinity Western University Date February 15, 2014 Without going deep into the literature, we can deduce that team-leadership is the ability of an individual to lead a team by making the team members perform to raise the overall productivity of the team. But team leadership is much more than this; here I would like to give an example of the person for whom I have a great respect in my heart. He was very swayed by the issue of female feticide in the country. This issue emerged due to the poor standards of health care in India. Female feticide is the “the selective abortion of female fetuses” (Ahmad, 2010, p. 13). Though, in-human activities are taking all over the world, but it is the cruelest kind of human activity seen over the globe. Himself being a doctor, he was very discomfited by the menace of illegal abortions of the fetuses. Realizing that he alone cannot do much to eradicate this anti-social activity, he went out for the support of the common public. He explained his vision to the public and raised the attention of the public towards the issue. He made them to work like a team, he described the roles to them and the importance which it carries in accomplishing the vision. This eventually developed confidence in them and provoked the leadership ability in each of them. All of them got aligned to work for a common cause and assumed a leadership...
