...There aren’t a lot of people in this world who can say “they climbed Mount Everest”, but me and three others: Grace, Anthony, Bob, Lauren are ones who can. It took us eight weeks to complete our mission, in those eight weeks, we experienced some good times and some hard times, but it was worth it. Although it took us weeks to complete our mission, it was so enjoyable it didn’t seem like it at all. It took a lot of self-confidence, time management, and most importantly it required exuberant amounts of strength to climb Mount Everest. One of the most exciting parts about the climb was the preparation; you have to prepare yourself physically. During training each morning we would run three miles and we made sure that we drank plenty of fluids. Mentally we had to commit, remain positive and stay confident. Overall, we had a blast. Preparing for the climb was very tedious, that was my favorite part. It took approximately two to three weeks to gather all our supplies. Even though we were all experienced climbers, except for one of us, we still hired a Sherpa, his name was Bob. We met up with him two days prior to our climb to discuss details. When we first met with...

...300). The team exercise was a simulated climb of Mt. Everest, with each member having a unique role during the simulation. According to Psychologist Bruce Tuckman, there are five stages in group development including forming, storming, norming, performing, and a later added adjourning (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013). Not only was the Harvard Publishing Leadership and Team Simulation: Everest V2 a simulation in climbing Mt Everest, it was a lesson in executing a group challenge. The formation of the team began with the team assignments from the professor. There was some confusion as to who was on what team but after a few days; one after the other was present for the forming processes. It took a few days for everyone to collaborate and get their schedules all to work out to complete this task. Communication between team members was initially challenging trying to figure out the best method of communication between group members. Some members communicated more than others in the discussion board. A slower method of communication was utilized when two members, Terry and Jackie, had technical issues accessing the Chat room. In the process of developing the team charter, behavioral characteristics such as procrastination became apparent, which made it difficult to write portions of the team charter for everyone’s review. The lack of communication made the final product miss some key elements. The team analysis paper was not...

...care professionals. Unfortunately, many health care professionals, especially those outside of academia are unfamiliar with the publication process. The purpose of this paper is to provide a detailed description of the publication process from conception of the idea through actual publication. The topics addressed include finding a publishable idea, finding the right journal for publication, contacting the editor and preparing and submitting a manuscript. The paper will also discuss actual and perceived obstacles to publication. Chapter One Introduction In this world of evidence based practice, it is becoming more and more important for health care professionals to share their clinical successes and their failures. Health care professionals have a responsibility to themselves, their colleagues and their patients to read what others are saying, to evaluate the relevance of what they are reading and to write so that their successes can be implemented by others. The opportunities to be published are growing every year. Albarran and Scholes (2005) state that: In the past two decades there has been a phenomenal rise in the number of peer reviewed publications, either as paper-print or as online journals, and this has been in response to the growing demand for information, research activity and the necessity to apply empirical findings to the delivery of patient care. (p. 72) For the novice writer, writing for publication can appear to be...

...crust. The opening through which the lava and tephra are emitted is called the volcanic vent. Lava is magma that reaches the Earth’s surface. Magma is melted rock at high pressure and temperature. Magma rises because it is initially less dense than the rock surrounding rock. It eventually equals the density of the surrounding rock and becomes a magma chamber. Tephra is pumice or ash that is blown into the air during eruptions. Volcanoes are generally found where tectonic plates converge and diverge; but are usually not created where tectonic plates slide past one another. As a result volcanoes can be found in all sorts of climate locations. There are four primary types of volcanoes which all have varying effects on the environment. This paper will explore these various types of volcanoes and show how they differ, as well as giving examples of eruptions for each of the types discussed. Principle Types of Volcanoes Cinder cones: Cinder cones are built from particles and blobs of congealed lava ejected from a single vent; they are the simplest forms of volcanoes. Gas charged lava is violently blown into the air and breaks up into small fragments that solidify and fall as cinders around the vent to form a circular or oval cone. Most of these types of volcanoes have a bowl shaped crater at the summit and rarely rise more than a thousand feet or so above their surroundings. Lava flow can flow from a breach on the side of the crater or a vent from an outside flank. Lava...

...Lessons Learned Paper Francisco E Guzman University of Phoenix Dr. Nancy Arduengo Lessons Learned Paper * Connecting with a group of doctoral students for the first residency is very challenging. Most of the students admitted to having feelings of misperception, worry, or uncertainty. Meeting someone new is certainly not comfortable, however the anticipations and nervousness of a doctoral program is adequate for someone to ask why one would choose to embark on a titanic venture. This residency has encouraged me to withstand in my program. There were more than a few eye-openers that revealed progress and improvement as a doctoral student. In the last five days, various lessons and experiences were imparted and learned but the most important lessons for me include the learning team experiences, scholarly writing, and reflective journaling on the lessons learned. Learning Teams During this residency experience, I acquired a lot about learning teams. In my academic and professional experience, I have been a part of numerous teams. I have had some bad encounters with teams during my period with the University of Phoenix and acknowledged that the team experiences at residency would be similar. I definitely applied my situatedness but I understand now a cohort of different personalities can form a successful team where all opinions are heard, all ideas count, all contribute and all appear to demonstrate an authentic interest for one another. We...

...Building a Computer Miakai Robinson Computer Ethics August 6, 2011 Building a Computer Table of Contents Abstract 3 Paper 4 References 9 Abstract If you've never done it before, the idea of building a computer from the ground up can seem very intimidating—but it's one of the most satisfying projects a tech enthusiast can take on. Being more of a software gal than a hardware geek myself, I was the only Life hacker editor who had never built a PC from scratch. So when I needed a new PC late last year, I took the plunge and built my custom system. I'm so glad I did—the project turned out to be one of my proudest accomplishments of 2010. If you've cracked open your PC before to install a new hard drive or TV capture card, but you've never built a whole new system from the ground up, it's not as difficult as you might think. Here are my notes for first-timers who want to build instead of buy their next computer. Why Build Instead of Buy "But computers are so cheap these days," you say. "Why waste the time and energy building your own system when you can get a great machine fully assembled and shipped to your door?" That's a great question. Building your own PC will not save you time. It might save you money, but that's not even the best reason to do it. For me, it was a fantastic hands-on educational experience. It gives me a deep sense of satisfaction every single day when I press the power button on my tower, watch it light up, and...

...Capitalization Rules Capitalization is the writing of a word with its first letter in uppercase and the remaining letters in lowercase. Experienced writers are stingy with capitals. It is best not to use them if there is any doubt. Rule 1. Capitalize the first word of a document and the first word after a period. Rule 2. Capitalize proper nouns—and adjectives derived from proper nouns. Examples: the Golden Gate Bridge the Grand Canyon a Russian song a Shakespearean sonnet a Freudian slip With the passage of time, some words originally derived from proper nouns have taken on a life, and authority, of their own and no longer require capitalization. Examples: herculean (from the ancient-Greek hero Hercules) quixotic (from the hero of the classic novel Don Quixote) draconian (from ancient-Athenian lawgiver Draco) The main function of capitals is to focus attention on particular elements within any group of people, places, or things. We can speak of a lake in the middle of the country, or we can be more specific and say Lake Michigan, which distinguishes it from every other lake on earth. Capitalization Reference List * Brand names * Companies * Days of the week and months of the year * Governmental matters Congress (but congressional), the U.S. Constitution (but constitutional), the Electoral College, Department of Agriculture. Note: Many authorities do not capitalize federal orstate unless it is part of the official title: State Water Resources Control...

...Liminality and Communitas as new sources of Social Capital in Business Relationship Dynamics Dr Annmarie Ryan, Department of Management and Marketing, Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick, Ireland. Competitive Paper Abstract In this paper I develop a framework for the study of business relationships through the lens of liminality. This is achieved by discussing the work of Turner in relation to rites and rituals and their role in society. Those dimensions of the concept of liminality and communitas that are important for this study therefore include: that it involves interaction outside everyday lived experience; that liminality is constructed and is neither self-evident or naturally occurring; involves the transformation re-discovery and re-appropriation of every day spaces, through separation, or divestiture process, and subsequently (re)incorporated into the everyday through processes of investiture and importantly, incorporates a shared experience that can impact on relations between those who share the experience beyond the event itself. The concept of liminality is offered as a way to enable researchers to understand the interactions between managers in relationships in a new way. The focus of this paper is therefore threefold: 1/ to expand upon the concept of creating, holding and intensifying liminal space and 2/consideration of the effect of this on the organisation and 3/ reflection on this on-going entering into and leaving of liminal space...
