...interested me. Of those three I will be talking about two of them in this paper. The first painting I will be talking about is "Mount Fuji viewed from the Imai Ferry on the Tone river, Shimosa province" by Shiba Kokan. The painting has Mount Fuji in the background and the Tone River in the forefront with six boats on it. The banks of the Tone River can also be seen with lush greenery on it. I wouldn't say that this painting made me feel anything when I saw it but it more like it piqued my interest due to its vibrant colors and it looked different from the other Japanese paintings I saw. For Example, at the museum they had another painting of Mount Fuji right next to this one but it didn't look as vibrant and it looked kind of bland in my opinion. I was to find out later, after reading the Plaque in front of the Shiba painting, the reason for the difference between the two is that Shiba Kokan was experimenting with western techniques of painting (1). Another thing mentioned on the Plague at the museum, though not mentioned on the information on the web site, is that this Shiba painting was an example of “mud painting". Mud painting was something Shiba Kokan came up with in order to replicate, as closely as possible, western oil paintings. This to me explained why I thought the Shiba painting looked much more vibrant, color wise, than the other Mt Fuji painting next to it. The reason why Shiba experimented with mud...

...It is a common characteristic for people to drift from simplistic values and instead to worry over past regrets or strive for an ambiguous future. Hokusai was a Japanese artist in Edo and is most known for his paintings depicting perspectives of Mount Fuji. Although living in different eras, Cho Hon, a Korean artist, wrote a poem emphasizing similar ideas including the temporal manner of humanity’s effects. Hokusai’s painting, Asakusa Hongan-ji Temple in the Eastern Capital, and Cho Hon’s “Untitled” share common themes of discovering tranquility through the intertwinement of humans and nature, the significance of understanding one’s impermanent life, and the constant flux of time. In Hokusai’s painting, the small size of the mountain behind...

...Hokusa’s The Great Wave is one the the most famous works of art in the world and is probably the most iconic Japanese artwork. The painting depicts a big wave that is about to crash down on three boats and their crews. Katshushika Hokusai is the creator of this print who was about 70 years old at the time. This painting was created when Japanese trade was heavily restricted. But despite this, thousands of copies were made and were sold at very cheap prices. The Great Wave was a part of Hokusai Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji, which he made between 1830-1833. It was a multi-colored woodblock print that was made of of ink and color on paper that was about 10 x 14 inches. Every image in the series features a glimpse of the mountain, but it doesn’t...

...Leichleiter 1 Cliff Leichleiter 2-2-2014 English 101 Kristina Young Japanese Village Life Portrayed Through Paintings A daily ritual of walking into work was normal in traditional Japanese Village Life. Depicted in the surreal, natural state of awareness, "Enoshima in the Sagami Province" portrayed village life in Japan before an outside influence cultivated change. A Lovely view of Mt Fuji, softly painted scenery, and dream-like people bring together the essence of village life. Another example of a painting supporting the idea is “Kakitsubata (Iris)” which, explains and narrates, a much similar time in history. A third painting, “True View of the Post Office at Edobashi” enclosed here will bring to light the introduction of westernization into Japanese culture via traditional life. “Industrialization went hand-in-hand with political and cultural Westernization.” (Dower, 1) A fourth painting, “Illustration of Ladies Sewing,” depicts the use of a modern machine. Does Japan seem resilient to change or does it embrace it? Again, two of the paintings suggest heavily that Japanese culture remained similar up to a certain date. The other example is a painting that is opposite of what was previously portrayed. While Japanese Village Life progressed at a normal rate; regardless of western influence, Western culture influenced how Japan went from a traditional way of life to a more modern way of life. Although, Japan kept many of its cultural identity; despite the western influence...

...there’s something to be said for letting it gently infuse itself as well (the water tends to stay a bit clearer as well.) • Don’t add ice to the entire jug, and leave it on a cup-by-cup basis. If you plan on drinking it over time, this can help prevent it from getting diluted as the ice melts. • Start with 2 liters’ of water steeping overnight, and then experiment with longer/shorter times and more or less water. • Squeeze in the juice of 1 lime and/or lemon and then slice up another and add that to give it a little extra citrus kick. • This isn’t for flavor, but this drink looks mighty appealing in a glass pitcher on a hot summer day. ------------------------------------------------- APPLE CINNAMON DETOX WATER A large pitcher Fuji apples Cinnamon sticks (powdered works too, I used about one teaspoon) Ice Water *Update* Somebody suggested a squeeze of lemon to keep the apples fresher! | Oops, I...

...The structure of the joint venture between Xerox Corporation and Fuji Xerox became an issue in the beginning of the 90´s. The growth of the competence from Canon, Richoh and Minolta in the low-end copiers and Kodak and IBM in the high-end has led them to lose market share. The growth of the Asian and South Pacific Market as well as the necessity of Fuji Xerox to be more independent becomes a challenge for the managers of the Xerox Group. We need to find the best practices in product designs, manufacturing, and management ideas to continue this synergy and fight against the growing competence. To understand our situation in this case we most analyze how Fuji Xerox became important for Xerox Corporation. In the beginning of the 60´s Fuji Xerox started as a reseller for xerographic products in Japan and Fuji Photo Film was the manufacturer it was a 50/50 joint venture between FX and RX this last one with 50% of profits. Xerox Corporation itself was to have no direct relationship with FX. This relation changes when FX started to develop their own manufacturing capabilities, XC leave them a small budget of R&D and FX Start to create their own models. However competition takes a place in the Japanese market and to counteract it FX launched the “Total Quality Control Program” (TQC) by looking in the customer needs (reduction of costs, elimination of waste and new technologies) they introduce to the market the FX3500 at half price of any comparable, with half number of parts....

This provides multi-layered security for the servers, and at the same time, protects the file system in real-time. This allows users to view the data without manipulating it. The Second is the recommended network sharing service. Network File Service (NFS) is recommened where access is through Secure Socket Layer (SSL). NFS allows the mounting of file systems on remote computers, & access to them. The client or accessing computer would just need to be running NFS client which is compatible with the NFS server. This is done with the mount points, and after the share or file, is mounted, all I/O operations are written back to the server. All clients then notice the change instantaneously, as if it was on the local filesystem. Lastly it is recommended to use NFS with access to the LAN via SSL. The encryption that is used will make sure that the data is not compromised and is kept within the C-I-A...

...Todd Johnson Literary Analysis Dr. Weiland October 31,2012 Regret in “The Snows of Kilimanjaro” In “The Snows of Kilimanjaro” by Ernest Hemingway, the third person omniscient narrator tells the story of a man’s struggles as he approaches the end of his life. The story begins with an epigraph describing a “dried and frozen carcass of a leopard” at the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro (1983). Initially, the epigraph is not connected to the text until the conclusion of the story when the leopard contrasts to the hyena. Early on, the reader discovers that the main character, Harry, is gradually dying due to a knee infection he suffered during his safari to Africa with his wife. As the couple lies stranded in the scorching hot African desert, Harry passes his time by evaluating his life. Harry aspires to possess qualities similar to those of the leopard; however, his characteristics resemble the hyena. The symbolism of animals and the internal and external expressions of rot help the reader see that Harry’s regret leads to his eventual death. The narrator’s use of symbolism through animals gives the reader a better understanding of the quality of life that Harry has lived. Upon reading the epigraph, the reader realizes that the noble leopard died with a purpose on his challenging quest to reach the summit of the mountain. It is clear that the leopard embodies traits including dominance, audacity, and poise. These defining qualities are those of which Harry could not achieve in...

...Pierce County, WA Community Assessment Western Governors University Pierce County, WA Community Assessment Community Description and Data Interpretation Pierce County is situated in the central west of Washington State. The county is divided by Puget Sound, with the majority of the land to the east of the major waterway. There are several small islands included in the county that are located near the southern edge of the Sound. At the county’s eastern border, the beginnings of foothills lead to the actively volcanic Mount Rainier’s summit. Many parts of the county today are built upon the deposits of lahar from past eruptions. The geography of Pierce county ranges from a rocky shore to a lush, national forest with many lakes, rivers, and creeks in between. Overall, the county has 1794 square miles of land and 118 square miles of water, not including Puget Sound (Pierce County Department Of Emergency Management, 2010). Pierce County became well known in the late nineteen hundreds when the city of Tacoma became the western terminus of the Northern Pacific Railroad – the first transcontinental railroad in the north. The introduction of this railroad led to an increase in shipping and manufacturing in the area. At the time, lumber, shipping, farming, and coal mining powered Pierce’s economy. With the exception of mining, all these industries are still present today, though industrialization has made them less prominent than in the past (Pierce County Department...
