...Going to the movies as a child was one of my most favorite things to do. It was also a privilege so for many of us to get to attend a movie. Going to the movies is still a fun thing to do today but technology, cleanliness, and the thought of violence happening in a theater tends to keep people at home to watch movies. Technology today has allowed us to pretty much be in contact with anyone at any time. It is not uncommon to be sitting in movie and a phone ring or get a notification. While most people have their phone on silent were no one can hear others, feel it is appropriate to take a call while the movie is in progress. This can cause patrons to become distracted and frustrated. A lot of people who go to the movies go to get away and relax. They are trying to get away and enjoy themselves. I have noticed many times the blue glow of screens from cell phone usage. Though this may not bother some, I have found it to be very distracting. People would rather watch a movie in their own home than waste their money being distracted by electronic devices....

...I face a lot of challenges when it comes to creating an acceptable paper. I have a negative outlook on my writing, I write a lot of cliche things, fragment sentences are my weakness, my vocabulary is poor, and I over think what is wanted from what I write. Struggling with this introduction, for instance, is one of my major weaknesses. A lot more work goes into it than there seems. I have to think “Did I capture the attention? Does my audience know where I’m going with this paper? Is it enough to make them curious to read more?” In the beginning of the semester, my introduction basically went straight into the paper like it was the first body paragraph. It was a confusing surprise. I’ve since worked on my introductions so they give more explanation toward the overall reason for the paper. Even if it’s not the best you’ve ever read, I’m more aware of why it’s not and that there are ways to strengthen it. I’d like to believe because of how self-aware I...

...that the college level class would be the death of me. As I read over the syllabus for this class it states that we will learn to understand writing assignments as a series of tasks and develop flexible strategies for generating, revising, editing, and proof-reading the assigned papers. I shuddered at the sheer thought of having to write five papers. Narrative, Evaluation, Profile, Position. These words might as well have been written in another language because I had no idea how to differentiate between them. Despite my fears, I believe this semester’s English 101 course has truly helped me develop my writing skills and advance to a more capable writer. Throughout my life English has always been my most difficult subject. Even back in elementary school I would have 100 percent averages in all of my other classes except English. I do not know what it was that challenged me so much but I had a terrible time. With the start of my high school career coincided the beginning of my paper writing experiences. I would work for hours each day trying my best to write a paper that made sense and would flow smoothly between paragraphs. My countless hours of work, however, never seemed to pay off. Every single paper that I had returned to me from my teachers was always covered in bright red Sharpie marker, usually with a large “B” circled somewhere on the front. The words “hard to follow” were...

...Back in the 4th grade, I would always have problems with writing stories. At the beginning of the week, I would always have to write a story that fitted the assigned prompt. My teacher would always give each of us a blank paper, so that I was able to make plan out what I was going to write. On the blank paper, I wrote down an abbreviation called BME. The letter B in my outline stand for the beginning of the prompt. Next, the M in my outline would stand for the middle of the writing essay. The teacher also read to us the instruction of the prompt. One of the examples of the instructions were “Make sure to proofread your essay for grammar or spelling errors. Towards the end of the writing prompt, I tried to make sure that I proofread my story before turning it in. After turning my paper, I forgot about the paper for the rest of the day. Instead of thinking about writing, I would always want to be outside, climbing on the monkey bars or compete with other students by swinging the highest height on the swing set. On Fridays, the teachers would send us to in a group of three other students. In these groups, we read out loud our stories. As soon as we got done reading our stories, the teachers would give us advices on what we should the next time we have as assigned prompt to write. Most of the time, my teacher...

...And again, my previous English classes, I did not have a chance for my classmates to review my papers. The professor considers this process was unnecessary and expect me to go to the Writing Center if needed help. However I have encounter myself that the peer review give me an opportunities to develop how to give constructive feedback, and improve my papers dramatically. Besides that, when it come for me to read someone paper, I have seen different approaches of how he or she responding to a same assignment as we all did. I have read some very strong papers, and that can make me learn a great deal to bring up my confidence on writing. I would sit down to read over my peer comments and began to editing my paper. Once I was fascinating on how they use their strengths to outweigh their weakness. For example, once we did the film peer review, I was fascinating of one the paper that I read. The paper was quite short and did not have enough background information about the film. However, his grammar and sentence structures were very strong. His word choice was effective and easy to understand. He gave a specific summary about the people, places and things of the movie, which scene is the most impact and eventually forced myself to go the Red box and rent the...

...attempted to write something about they mighty not even know can be very interesting. The writing can be a thesis, a simple task of a poor student or maybe just a personal diary. The feelings gotten during a write can be described in two different stages which are physical and mental. First of all the physical feelings will be mentioned are aches, sickness and urge to eat more and more which is both related in physical and mental feelings. The writer-to-be person sits at the table takes a paper and a pencil with a nice looking both happy and curious expression in the face then places the pencil on the paper but In the moment he starts to think about the topic he is not knowledged enough to write the first thing will come to their head is more likely to be a terrible headache feels one like there is a drum beats as your heart does, than an idea. After a while the beats of headache probably will get thougher as if there is a terrifying melody playing because it’s going to be a very scary scene in a movie. And then the scary scene comes, that feeling chokes your maw, tickles your stomach, absorbs all your life energy and the inevitable final throwing out. Poor writer has already quit writing and went to the kitchen to eat like the Cookie Monster in this phase. Enjoy your meal writer! ...Over the course of eleven weeks I have grown and learned more that I thought possible. Writing 122 has been an academic experience for me. I have overcome my weaknesses and developed a better understanding and feel for my strengths. I have revealed new weaknesses and strengths that I will continue to work on as I continue taking writing classes. Throughout my Writing 122 class I have accomplished a number of reader’s responses that have allowed me to reflect and express my opinion on the subjects assigned and essays that have allowed me to express my strengths and weaknesses in the course. My ability to write and express my ideas, thoughts and knowledge has grown stronger each week. I have always struggled to put my thoughts on paper in a manner that is coherent and correct according to assignments as-well as proper punctuation. I can remember being told numerous times in high school to “organize my thoughts” or “provide more support and examples”. These are the things that I have worked on and improved over the past couple of weeks and I feel that my work shows this. Moving through the first essay to the last essay I...

...English class by far was my least liked class in all my middle school and high school education and never would I have thought that what I once disliked as a student would be of such importance to my future career. Being able to write, read, and understand, simply becomes the basics to learning and getting through college, and I, myself am still acquiring the necessary skills to become a better writer. In fact, one of the goals I plan to accomplish through my college education is to become a better writer. I can read and understand what I am reading pretty good but when it comes to writing I feel like I still lack some skills and expertise, and certainly being able to write will be of great value to my future career. Writing allows us to communicate our ideas, our beliefs, our understanding of a subject, and our dreams. Through this process one can inform, persuade, express, entertain, and explain, and this is why I believe writing is so important, especially when you have dedicated yourself to a life-long learning experience. School and from my experiences in writing I can say I’ve had but minimal training, just the basics. Never have I ever written something for fun or for my own good, every time I write it’s for a grade, not for my own pleasure nor for a greater purpose than just a grade, and surely this has to change. Ever sense I have become extremely interested in learning more about the world around me, understanding what is happening and why its happening, has made me...
