...a statements against the rising “intolerance and bigotry”. The controversial statements of Aamir Khan also sparked other religion issues such as the banning of cow meat in Maharashtra, killings of MM Kalburgi and Govind Pansare. These events were unjustly credited to Modi’s BJP rule as all the events took place under Narendra Modi’s reign as Prime Minister of India. Although many believe the rising intolerance is to be blamed on Modi, several others contradict the claim by insisting that the country has not become intolerant suddenly under the Narendra Modi led BJP government. Mr. Modi addressed this issue directly, when on a visit to the UK, the Indian Prime Minister said to the crowd: “Any event in any corner of India - it doesn't matter if there are even one or two incidents - we will not tolerate it and the law will deal with it strictly It does not matter whether such an incident is significant for a country of 125 crore people. For us, every incident is serious." Mr. Modi being known for addressing issues directly and efficiently made a statement for all the critics who believed that Mr. Modis BJP was leaning towards an intolerant India. Although Mr. Modi made a strong statement in the UK, intolerance as an issue has always existed in the country. It all Started when Bollywood star Aamir Khan's wife Ria Khan made controversial statements on live media about the...

...NAME- ZOYA DCOSTA COURSE-FYBMM ROLL NO-M12018 DATE- 24/1/2013. SUBJECT- POLITICAL SCIENCE INDIVISUAL PROJECT TOPIC NO 8- “FASCISM”. * EVERY NATION DESERVES ITS OWN FASCISM! Fascism is a terrible kind of political domination; capable of infringing on any eligible rights of any communities or people to unpredictable magnitude. Historically it is an output of the capitalistic system and takes various shapes and forms, depending upon the particular social order. Fascism does emerge in capitalist crises, the moments when the struggle for production reaches a point when the workers can no longer purchase the products they produce, a crisis of over-production and declining profits or an intense battle for cheaper labor, raw materials, and new markets; that is, war. Although this came into practice as a political ideology in 1919 with the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, Fascism became more prominent after the 1st world war when Adolf Hitler a small time army personal who did not get its due respect and position and was treated very badly by his Party to whom he was affiliated. It was between the 1st and 2nd World War the most famous fascist leader who went to become the Dictator and invaded almost half of the European countries and Asia with His Japanese’s allies. Thus Fascism could not be understood in many of its practical manifestations as a party organization, as a system of education or as a discipline. The present phase of fascism is a more organized and systematic...

...Protection of individual properties[edit] There are systems that property owners purchase and fit to their home to stop water entering their house. These systems work on blocking doors, windows and air vents with boards. Propert2.jpg Propert3.jpg Protection of communities[edit] When more homes, shops and infrastructure are threatened by the effects of flooding, then the benefits of greater protection is worth the additional cost. Temporary Flood Defenses can be constructed relatively quickly in certain locations and provide protection from rising flood waters. Communit2.jpg Communit1.jpg Rivers running through large urban developments will often have been controlled and channeled. These channels or canals will have a fixed capacity and if flood water flows exceed this capacity then the city will flood. Over time defenses will have been constructed to minimize the effects, and this will generally be through raising the sides of the river channel with embankments, walls or levees. The large number of people and huge value of infrastructure at risk in cities, means that protection works of high cost can be justified. The water level is receding in parts of Srinagar, which had turned into a giant lake from the waters of the swollen Jhelum. The water level was two to three storeys high in areas like Raj Bagh. People moved to hospitals and other high rise buildings to escape the rising water. The Army...

...MAKE IN INDIA REPORT Place: Chandigarh PHD Date: 25th September 2014. INTRODUCTION PrimeMinister Narendra Modi launched the 'Make in India' campaign on Thursday, ahead of his maiden visit to the US, rolling out the red carpet to investors to catapult India, on the global manufacturing stage. The focus will be on 25 sectors and the respective ministries - heavy industries, telecom, power and others. All this to develop India or as the prime minister says, to 'First develop India'. The event apart from attracting the Indian corporate bigwigs saw participation from representatives from companies from countries such as US, Japan, Korea, Sweden, Poland, Australia, China, Italy, Germany and France. The Prime Minister acknowledged that India has not been the friendliest nation to do business in, assured investors that the country is headed for a change. He made a compelling pitch for India, mentioning that only India offers the 3Ds: Democracy, Demography and Demand. He emphasized digital technology as being an integral part of the change and advocated a 'Look East' and 'Link West' policy in the country. Narendra Modi highlighted some very specific initiatives that will help drive this change. He also mentioned some very specific KPIs to measure the effectiveness of the campaign. A few of these are detailed below: 1. An increase in manufacturing sector growth to 12-14% per annum over the medium term. 2. An increase in the share of manufacturing in the country’s Gross Domestic...

...file-bound and apply-through-proper-channels’ style of governance. “Right now we’re sipping from a poisoned chalice- a flawed democracy laced with religious facism. Pure arsenic” The raw description and writing by Roy is the blatant truth or at least her version of the truth of the failure of India’s democracy. She sounds the warning bugle of the rise of the so called Hindu nationalism that’s trying to cast Islam as our national enemy. The most important example that she puts forward to support her claims is the massacre of perhaps 2000 muslims in Gujarat in 2002, in which the state government was allegedly complicit. She provides a shocking analysis of the riots of Gujarat and the fact of it being orchestrated by Hindu nationalist stalwart, Mr. Narendra Modi. In three nifty articles, she cuts open all the questioning method the police had used in securing the conviction of Muhammad Afzal Guru, a Kashmiri resident and the mastermind of the 2001 terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament. She describes the conviction to be a result of alleged evidence planting and torturing him to confession. She poses a set of arguments and even proof of police torture that makes us in turn question the version of the story we common...

...sector as international players such as Hyundai, Nokia, Samsung and Airbus are focussing on setting up manufacturing facilities in the country. Interestingly, India’s growth in the manufacturing sector overshadows other BRIC members. This can be associated to the strength in the Indian Domestic market. In a major boost to the 'Make in India' initiative, the Government has received confirmation from top technology firms such as GE, Bosch, Tejas and Panasonic regarding their decision to invest in the electronic, medical, automotive and telecom manufacturing clusters in India. "We have received 57 investment proposals of over Rs 19,000 crore (US$ 3.05 billion) of which 30 proposals worth Rs 6,500 crore (US$ 1.04 billion) have been approved," said Mr Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Government of India. ...16th may 2014 was a red letter day in lives of most of the Indians because as citizens we ensured the defeat of a corrupt and agenda-less government which had stopped being representative of India to say the least. The jubilant Indians had their long cherished, good riddance day. The New ruler had and still continues to have an impeccable integrity, a no-nonsense approach towards public service, and a past as Chief minister which would make any politician jealous of him. The Indians had found a panacea in Narendra Modi, who we sincerely believed would take our country to glorious heights. There is no doubt that new sant of Sabarmati has been incessantly trying to deliver whatever he had promised and he has considerable achievements in his kitty from his 18 months rule. India has become the fastest growing nation overtaking china. India has become an important player in global politics, a more proactive and pragmatic foreign policy. The govt has been able to ensure high growth with low inflation (food inflation though has been high) and that too with low fiscal deficit. The Indian policies are now being implemented in mission mode, the prominent examples being PMJDY (Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana) and Toilets in schools. We find no example in recent history of Indian schemes completed on time. In social sector, Accidental and life insurance at Rs12 and Rs 330 have come as a huge relief to the poor and the marginalized sections of society. Moreover in all these 18 months he has...

...Muslim mob in the western Indian state of Gujarat. Over the next week, retaliatory Hindu mobs hacked and burned 2,500 Muslims across the state. As the world watched in shock, an impenitent government led by the rightwing Hindutva Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) put out smart theories about ‘action and spontaneous reaction’ – Hindu retaliation for Muslim crime – and refused to apologize. A year later, though evidence of his culpability was piled high, Gujarat strongman Narendra Modi – an inscrutable fascist and skilled demagogue – was re-elected as Incandescent: Hindutva chief minister of Gujarat on a zealots rage against the mega vote: a terrifying reflection arrest of Sadhvi Pragya, of popular Hindu sentiment in the a Hindu ascetic, under state. Success can be a tremendous suspicion of a terror attack. sanction. With the fig leaf of the popular mandate in his pocket, even India’s liberal élite began to look the other way. ...home after the previous governess died. Douglas begins to read from the written record, and the story shifts to the governess’s point of view as she narrates her strange experience. The governess begins her story with her first day at Bly, the country home, where she meets Flora and a maid named Mrs. Grose. The governess is nervous but feels relieved by Flora’s beauty and charm. The next day she receives a letter from her employer, which contains a letter from Miles’s headmaster saying that Miles cannot return to school. The letter does not specify what Miles has done to deserve expulsion, and, alarmed, the governess questions Mrs. Grose about it. Mrs. Grose admits that Miles has on occasion been bad, but only in the ways boys ought to be. The governess is reassured as she drives to meet Miles. One evening, as the governess strolls around the grounds, she sees a strange man in a tower of the house and exchanges an intense stare with him. She says nothing to Mrs. Grose. Later, she catches the same man glaring into the dining-room window, and she rushes outside to investigate. The man is gone, and the governess looks into the window from outside. Her image in the window frightens Mrs. Grose, who has just walked into the room....

...character? To what extent is her final protest justified? How do the other characters portray themselves by their attitudes toward the ritual? Mrs. Tess Hutchinson stands out right from the start: she arrives at the lottery late. She explains to Mr. Summers that she was doing her dishes and forgot what day it was. The town treats her lateness lightly, but several people comment on it, “in voices just loud enough to be heard across the crowd, ‘Here comes your Missus, Hutchinson,’ and ‘ Bill, she made it after all.’” (Jackson 501). It is ironic that she is the one who wins the lottery, and is fated to be stoned. So Tess Hutchinson has already been noticed by people as one who is not entirely part of the group. Before the drawing she is friendly with the other women, pretending to be pleased to be present. The very moment that she sees is her family that draws the black dot, though, her egotism is evident. “You didn’t give him time enough to take any paper he wanted. I saw you. It wasn’t fair!” (Jackson 504). She continues to scream about the unfairness of the ritual up until her stoning. Mrs. Hutchinson knew the lottery was wrong, but she never did anything about it. She pretends as much as she could to enjoy it, when she truly hated it all along. Maybe Jackson is suggesting that the more hypocritical one is, the more of a target they are. Mrs. Hutchinson was clearly the target of her fears. I think sometimes we have no problem remarking on people’s adultery until it is ourselves that...

...industrialization policies This volume of essays is the outcome of a detailed study by a team of contributing research scholars led by Atul Sood. This timely evaluation provides an insight into many crucial questions: What are the constituent elements of Gujarat’s growth story? To what extent can the successful features of Gujarat’s growth story be attributed to the political regime fashioned by Narendra Modi? Is it possible to replicate even this limited success story at the national level – as Modi’s starry eyed upper and middle class following would like to believe? More significantly: what are the implications of Gujarat’s Development Model in terms of its sustainability and its desirability? What happens when we assess this development through a set of comprehensive measures, judge its implication for the average citizen’s material wellbeing, and see what it means for the political and economic rights of citizens? The study proceeds through a meticulous examination of existing official data sources on investment, infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing , employment, poverty , inequality, education and health expenditures and a set of other indicators of development. These are then used to explain various developmental outcomes in the state in relation to national averages and the performance of other states which have also experienced high growth rates recently, such as Maharashtra, Haryana and Tamilnadu. Atul Sood’s cogently argued and insightful introduction brings...

...May I beg that you will write at once to the mother of this unfortunate woman--to Mrs. Catherick--to ask for her testimony in support of the explanation which I have just offered to you?" I saw Miss Halcombe change colour, and look a little uneasy. Sir Percival's suggestion, politely as it was expressed, appeared to her, as it appeared to me, to point very delicately at the hesitation which her manner had betrayed a moment or two since. I hope, Sir Percival, you don't do me the injustice to suppose that I distrust you," she said quickly. "Certainly not, Miss Halcombe. I make my proposal purely as an act of attention to YOU. Will you excuse my obstinacy if I still venture to press it?" He walked to the writing-table as he spoke, drew a chair to it, and opened the paper case. "Let me beg you to write the note," he said, "as a favour to ME. It need not occupy you more than a few minutes. You have only to ask Mrs. Catherick two questions. First, if her daughter was placed in the Asylum with her knowledge and approval. Secondly, if the share I took in the matter was such as to merit the expression of her gratitude towards myself? Mr. Gilmore's mind is at ease on this unpleasant subject, and your mind is at ease—pray set my mind at ease also by writing the note." "You oblige me to grant your request, Sir Percival, when I would much rather refuse it." With those words Miss Halcombe rose from her place and went to the writing-table. Sir Percival thanked her, handed her a...
