Could it be that the United States Government is covering up the existence of aliens? It is believed that the United states Government was covering up information pertaining to UFO sightings in Roswell, Mexico. The Government has sealed several documents discussing both incidents. Melanie Eversley from USA today states “Documents regarding the alleged landing of beings from outer space are locked up at the CIA’s headquarters in Langley, Virginia.” Witnesses have been interrogated and threatened to not speak on what they’ve seen or heard (Blake,34). It all began In July of 1947, something strange happened, a large unidentified flying object was spotted in the sky and crashed in the vast desert of Roswell. A rancher named William Brazel found metallic sticks held together with tape, chunks of plastic and foil reflectors, and scraps of a heavy, glossy, paper-like material. Immediately Brazel called the local sheriff department and spoke with sheriff George Wilcox and stated that he might have recovered the remains of a flying saucer. Wilcox, according to various sources, contacted military authorities at the Roswell Army Air Field, where official Major Jesse Marcel was sent to investigate. After the findings were examined officials were sent to take aways the remaining’s of the crash. This sighting caused chaos in the town of Roswell. There were many eye witness reports of alien like creatures that were next to the destroyed craft. Witnesses who saw the crash site, before confronted by the US Government, were interviewed and all gave similar descriptions of the aliens and the flying craft (Jeffery,12). Glenn Dennis, a mortician who worked at the ballad funeral home in Roswell, made the first actual claim of alien bodies when received calls from the morgue at the army airfield. A Mortuary Officer needed three small sealed coffins and preservation techniques this rose Glenn’s suspicion (Griffin, 40). Glenn drove out to the near by hospital to speak with the mortuary officer that called him that evening. Upon entering the hospital he was threatened by military police and forced to leave without reason. According to Glenn Dennis, a friend that worked in the hospital, a young nurse who allegedly participated in the autopsy of one of the aliens at the hospital, provided him with a description of the aliens when they met the next day. The nurse, he said, vanished immediately afterwards. Glenn stated he was told by officials she had been transferred overseas to England, then that she had been killed there in a terrible plane crash. Why were officials being so secretive? Glenn stated while at the hospital he saw large pieces of the craft that had strange markings on one of the pieces. Glenn was not the only, nor last, Roswell citizen to speak of these alien bodies. The pieces of the destroyed alien spacecraft were taken to Groom Lake testing facility also known as Area 51. Area 51 is a top secret military base designed to shelter many of the Government’s secret details, which includes the alien bodies and their craft. Large sums of money were spent to “Protect” the people of the world from recieveing the truth about Area 51 and this known alien presence of Roswell ( Blake, 51). When the US Government and Military first found the wreckage of the unidentified aircraft they issued a press release stating that they had come in contact with an Unidentified Flying Object and an unknown presence. After intense investigation The US Government later passed the Roswell UFO incident off as a closed case. Their investigations were that the incident was nothing more than a crashed weather balloon from the top secret Project Mogul and the alien bodies were crash test dummies. Project Mogul was a top-secret US military project that involved high altitude balloons. It was first conceived by Dr. Maurice Ewing, Information on the project was on a strictly 'need-to-know' basis. Most people involved in the project did not know the name of the project, or the objective of the project. The purpose of the project was to develop constant-altitude level balloons for meteorological purposes. Project mogul was to study the "sound channel" in the ocean (Ewing,19). Dr Ewing proved that explosions could be heard thousands of miles away with underwater microphones placed at a predetermined depth within the sound channel. Dr. Ewing believed that since sound waves generated by explosions could be carried by currents deep within the ocean, they might be similarly transmitted within a sound channel in the upper atmosphere. The witnesses are sure they saw aliens in the space ship, not crash dummies, and states the wreckage was too advanced to be human technology. From the late 1940’s up until December of 1969 the government had a collection of UFO files for public affairs that was called Project Blue Book (Moore,81) . The Project Blue Book was most likely used to give the false evidence to the public and keep the real evidence in classified vaults. Information about UFO’s has been continually documented After the Roswell incident and is believed to still be in existence 5 years later. On July 19th, 1952, Edward Nugent, an Air Traffic controller used to coordinate the movements of thousands of air crafts noticed something unusual on his radar screen, There were seven Unidentified Flying Object buzzing over the white house, the pentagon, and the southwest of the capital..Knowing that there would not be any crafts flying southwest of the capital, Nugent reported what he seen to his supervisor, Harry G. Barnes. Barnes had two controllers check Edward's radar; they found that it was working normally. Barnes then called The National Airport's other radar center; the controller there, Howard Cocklin, told Barnes that he also had the objects on his radar. Also, Cocklin said that by looking out of the control window he could see one of the objects, "a bright orange light. I can't tell what's behind it.” According to the editor of publications international article, Barnes stated "We knew immediately that a very strange situation existed..Their movements were completely radical compared to those of ordinary aircraft." Barnes stated the unidentified craft moved with such intense speed that their radars could not track it both times they’ve seen it (Booth, 45). These crafts were traveling at about 100 M.P.H. but with the ability to accelerate to an even faster speed of 7,200 mph. The U.S. Air Force Air Defense Command was the first to be notified of what was occurring. These flying crafts can be seen from radars at two local Air Force bases Andrews and Bolling. When they moved over the White House and the United States Capitol, Barnes called Andrews Air Force Base, located 10 miles from The National Airport. Although Andrews reported that they had no unusual objects on their radar, an airman then called the base's control tower to report the sighting of a strange object. Airman William Brady, who was in the tower, then saw an "object which appeared to be like an orange ball of fire, trailing a tail .. it was unlike anything I had ever seen before." Immediately, several U.S air night crafts were ordered to hunt down and verify what exactly they were seeing on their radars. However, repairs being done on a runway delayed their takeoff. The Unidentified objects suddenly vanished from the sky at an unbelievable speed by the time the U.S crafts were airborne. After the U.S air forces first contact with several UFO’s they haven’t returned or have been seen on their radar until July 26, They returned. Again, there were multiple radar confirmations of the objects. At one point both radar centers at National Airport and the radar at Andrews air force base were tracking an object hovering over a radio tower. The object vanished on both radar centers at the same time (Rupplet, 160). At 3 a.m., shortly before two jet fighters from Newcastle air force base in Delaware arrived over Washington, all of the objects vanished from the radar at National Airport. However, when the jets ran low on fuel and left, the objects returned, which convinced Barnes that "the UFOs were monitoring radio traffic and behaving accordingly." (Clark,656) The objects were last detected by radar at 5:30 a.m. Around sunrise, E.W. Chambers, a civilian radio engineer in Washington's suburbs, observed "five huge disks circling in a loose formation. They tilted upward and left on a steep ascent.” After reports of these unidentified object reached citizens of Washington, DC government officials explained that it was nothing more than “Temperature Inversions” which can be described as an increase in air temperature with height above the earth's surface. Air force Official Lance holloway states “This weather phenomena can be illustrated by ground lights when they reach the clouds, give the illusion of lighted crafts flying in the sky.” It was believed that Air official Holloway was apart of the cover up. Radar controller Barnes goes on to say, "Inversion blips are always recognized by experts, we are familiar with what weather conditions, flying birds, and other such things can cause on radar. Temperature inversions on radar are typically weak returns and move at a slow ground speed. These blips were distinctly clear, reported as a very good return, solid and often traveled at unbelievable speeds." Barnes does not believe that the lightings in the sky were caused by temperature inversions. These UFO sightings made front page headlines even the appearance of president at the time Harry S. Truman. Truman states theres been a massive buildup of sightings over the United States in 1952, especially in July, and it alarmed the Truman administration. On 19 and 20 July, radar scopes at Washington National Airport and Andrews Air Force Base tracked mysterious crafts. Also On 27 July, the blips reappeared. This resulted in an order to shoot down the UFOs by the president, reports from various International News Service stories on July 29, 1952, one story reported that "jet pilots have been placed on a 24-hour nationwide 'alert to target the flying saucers' with orders to 'shoot them down.” An Air Force public information officer, Lt. Col. Moncel Monte, stated "The jet pilots are, and have been, under orders to investigate unidentified objects and to shoot them down if they can't talk them down.” He also mentioned that no pilot had been able to get close enough to take a shot at a “flying saucer”. The objects sped away at speeds “as much as a thousand miles an hour” as soon as an fight jet got close enough or simply vanished. Air Force headquarters staff then issued contradictory statements to the media stating that the unidentified flying objects were no threat to the United States and did not seem to be under intelligent control. Air Force Major Generals John Samford, and Roger Ramey, USAF Director of Operations, held a well-attended press conference at the Pentagon on July 29, 1952. It was the largest Pentagon press conference since World War II (pebbles, 80). Press stories called Samford and Ramey “the Air Force's two top UFO experts.” Samford was heavily influenced by Capt. Roy James, who had discussed the sightings with him earlier in the day and who also spoke at the conference. Samford stated that the visual sightings over Washington could be interpreted as misidentified aerial phenomena (such as stars or meteors). Samford also stated that the unknown radar targets could be explained by temperature inversion, which was present in the air over Washington on both nights the radar returns were reported. In addition, Samford argued that the radar contacts were not caused by the seven unidentified objects, and therefore posed no threat to national security. In response to the question as to whether the Air Force had recorded similar UFO radar contacts prior to the Washington incident, the conference proved to be successful "in getting the press off our backs", Ruppelt later wrote.
