One of the first instances we see of self-presentation is in the scene where Mufasa confronts Scar for not attending the presentation of Simba, Mufasa’s son, to the animal kingdom. As Scar begins to walk away, Mufasa tells him in a condescending manner not turn his back on him, to which Scar replies that maybe Mufasa should not turn his back. Erving Goffman’s theory is that we all act differently in different settings. A person has the ability to choose the person that they want to present to certain social groups. A person can be an actor or actress, yet can also be their own “audience” at the same time.
