1b. According to Mullin, it was the system that led to the pile up in prison because the police was no longer arresting big drug traffickers instead they were going after the youth of little crime-oriented neighborhoods like Harlem. Harlem was not so involved in the drug trade until the authorities started making the arrest of so many youngsters. After the arrest the youth is not left with many options and they are forced into the business trade if they want to make any kind of money because they can’t get the right education or work with arrest record. “In Harlem, the initial increasing violence was related primarily to conflicts around control of markets. This developed a dialectic of its own as more and more youth, who were not involved in the drug trade, felt it necessary to carry arms to protect themselves” (Mullins 9) As the amount of arms increased in Harlem the violence increased as well and soon it turned the youth in bad direction.
2b. Chinese Americans were considered to be people of color because all non-white citizens were classified as an inferior race but instead of classifying them as non-white, it was easier to label everyone as colored because “the society” will be able to accept the arguments against color easier. Chinese American were hard working people who were taking over the labor force of white America at a dramatic speed but the authority wouldn’t allow that so they put them under restrictions.
