...Music Appreciation Concert Report The University of Texas at El Paso Music Department presented a piano recital featuring Oscar Macchioni on Saturday, December 7. Dr. Macchioni born in Argentina is a very prestigious pianist which has performed all around the world. The program featured the keyboard instrument known as the piano. The music pieces played were Adagio from the Oboe Concerto in D minor, Faschingsschwank aus Wien op.26, Sonata in C-Sharp minor, and four different movements from the Preludes Book I. All the music played were from a variety of composers. The program was different from others, because it had only one instrument. However, it did not stop from being a fantastic performance. The music piece that was interesting to me was Faschingsswank aus Wien op.26 also known as Viennese Carnival Pranks which its five movements known as Allegro, Romanze, Scherzino, Intermezzo, and Finale. The texture of this music piece was exchanged from monophonic to polyphonic with gave a very enjoyable rhythm. In the harmonic aspect of the music, the movements had consonance with some dissonances. The pace of the music was very exciting changing from adagio to allegro, and the loudness stay in the volumes of piano for obvious reasons. The style in this piece of music gives a feeling of being in a carnival as the title suggests, but also gives a sense of romanticism of being heartbroken. Then, the movement changes to a style of anger and revenge depicting a different sense in the...

...On Wednesday, April 4, I drove to Austin to go see University of Austin’s Butler School of Music Symphonic Band. This is my first time hearing a University symphony band live, and I enjoyed my experience listening to the students' performance. The performances comprised the Overture to ‘Candide’ by Leonard Bernstein, Shadows Ablaze by Kathryn Salfelder, Sound Asleep by Andrew Boss, Wanderlust by Brandon Scott Rumsey, and Aurora Awakes by John Mackey. I had heard none of these songs before attending the concert so my reaction is solely based on my first-time experience of the pieces. The Surroundings The room this concert was held in was Bates Recital Hall. My instant reaction towards this room was over how beautiful it looks. From my...

...On Wednesday, December 2nd I attended to a very impressive concert presents by my great music professor Sergio Gonzalez and Hialeah Performing Arts Club. Dr. Sergio Gonzalez invited magnificent singers from his MUL 1010 class to make this concert unforgettable with his accompaniment in the piano. The first thing that I liked about this concert was the atmosphere because I saw how the audience enjoyed the music played by my talent professor and the amazing voices of the vocalists. Every artist was welcomed with a warm applause from every single person. Professor Sergio Gonzalez, and also a phenomenal pianist introduced every singer who accompanied him on the stage with words of admiration. This concert was about “Holiday Selections”...

...I went to the SJSU Music Concert Hall on November 11,2015, and it costs 5 dollars for the ticket. When I arrived there, I saw that most of the audiences are SJSU students, and a few of them are professors. The audiences dressed casually, and I dressed casually as well because I think that I was a casual listener at the concert. When I was listening to different pieces, I felt amazing because I never heard this kind of music before. I enjoyed the slow tempo because it gives me the feeling of relax. The pieces that were performed are “ If You Walked A Mile”, “The Five”, “Variations for Abbey”, “Ion Trails”, “ A Different Drummer”, and “All Our Broken Instruments”. The musical style for “If you Walked A Mile” is classical and electric, for “The Five” is orchestra, and the rest of the pieces are classic and electric. There were drums, computer, marimba, gong, triangle, and timpani as instrumentation of the ensemble. There was no seating arrangement and there is only one performer....

...Music Class Paper By Tenzin Wangyal Faculty: Professor David Claman On October 24th, 2013 at 7:30 pm, I went to a fundraising concert for the Garrison Institute at The Town Hall (123 West 43rd Street, New York City) called In the Spirit: Music From the World’s Great Traditions. While standing in the queue at the box office, I felt a little out of place and discouraged, since most of the people there were senior citizens who were very well and formally dressed; I was the only one wearing orange pants, a light blue shirt, a black jacket and white shoes. The old couple standing next to me was discussing music using dense music vocabulary. The good news is that I knew some of the vocabulary they were using, thanks to you, Professor; the bad news was that I didn’t know what to expect from this concert. Because it was a charity concert with world music, I bought a ticket and went in. The music hall was antique, with many pictures of classical singers on the wall. Inside the hall was large chandeliers. The seating arrangement was poor, with very little leg space. Everyone in the hall was so serious—I was telling them in my thoughts, “Smile, for God’s sake. It’s a concert, after all.” The presenter came out and talked a bit about Garrison Institute, before calling out the first performer: the Pomerium Vocal Ensemble. I was very excited since I liked [Sylvie] so much, which is a cappella. This a cappella ensemble consisted of fourteen people: Director Alexander Blanchly, sopranos...

...Driving to west from my address to Swallow Hill Music Center for 40 minutes one way at the evening was my first-time experience to the music concert in my life. I was a bit nervous when I arrived the place, but thanks to the receptionists at the front desk for warm welcoming and guidance. I took a middle row sit at the center of the hall and everything at the hall was a very nice, a well decorated light, attractive arts on the wall on the all the corners, the stage with five empty sits each with a microphone and a music stand at its front. Watching the performance and at the same time taking a note for my paper was also the only to do list for me. When time arrives, A young lady arrived a stage with a piece of paper and made a brief announcement about the concert and what they do, other notice like no photo graphs and others. Then Marrakech Express band arrived the stage with a full band instruments and after gaining the stage and awaiting the crowd’s silence, Samir El Yesfi begins picking the ‘ûd or lute which is what is called guitar in West accompanied by violin by Sandra Wong, Darbûka, the Moroccan bendir by Brett Bowen, and clarinet by Dexter Payne. After playing music for while Samir started singing “lama bada yatathana” which later I found on a YouTube being...

...Sina Valizadeh Concert Report 2 03/19/14 Classical Music Concert Report The concert took place in Balboa Park at Spreckels Organ. I was there for about an hour and they played 7 songs. #1: Jared Jacobsen: Toccata from Symphony No.5, Opus 42 from Charles-Marie Widor (1844-1937) From the start of the song tempo was presto. It has a 1,2 rhythm and it is very simple overall until it goes toward the end of a song and you hear more different melodies. it had an amazing finishing. during the middle of the song you could've hear the middle parts with louder and harder melodies. #2: Jared Jacobsen: Toccata in D Minor, S. 565 from Jonathan Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) This piece almost took 10 minutes and by far i can say is one of the best classical songs I've ever heard. it seems like a happy song. a lot of high pitch sounds and melodies were used in this song. tempo was combination of presto and moderato and it seems like its a dramatic song. #3: Sam Rudenberg: Prelude in G minor, BWV 556 from Jonathan Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) Very relaxing song, decent speed and largo tempo. i can say it is esspresione and it gets loud at the end of a song. #4: Sam Rudenberg: Finale from Janet Correll (b. 1942) Its a romantic era, it has a story line and a song like melody, usually it narrates a story about some one or a specific event that happened in the history. kind of slow tempo and a 1.2 rhythm. i heard a little bit of syncopation as well. #5: Jared Jacobsen: oh Danny boy...

...Erin Jordan Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra September 12, 2011 Berlin Philharmonie The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestral performed Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 while touring in Europe and was conducted by Manfred Honeck. The program is Mahler: Symphony No. 5 in c-sharp minor with encores by Josef Strauss and Richard Strauss. I obtained the program from http://www.youtube.com. Watching and listening to a concert on a small computer screen with poor sound quality isn’t ideal but the feelings and emotions were still present. Prior to watching the concert I researched the composer Gustav Mahler. One important piece of musicians is their life history. I learned Gustav had a near death experience prior to composing Symphony No. 5. I believe his struggle with life and death was told in his work. Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 begins with a trumpet solo intro and is quickly joined by the bass drums portraying a sense of fear and suspense. The trumpet intro is by far the most memorable feature. The musical theme is a sense of darkness to light, sadness and despair to joyful and hopeful. Many parts also sound as if there is sorrow turned into violence. It is as if Mahler is fighting for something or someone. Quite possibly his own life or even the love of a female. There are frequent changes in tempo and dynamic with crescendo and decrescendo. The cadence of the orchestra allows for more suspense and the need to see what comes next in the story. Many chords...

...On February 22 the Kettle Moraine School for Arts and Performance [KM Perform] will be presenting their own rendition of Little Shop of Horrors. Pulling off a cult classic like this seems to be a challenge at first glance. However so, Perform students are quickly rising to the occasion. Preparing for a musical is a tiresome, work-intensive process, much more than a mere snap of the fingers. Everyone working on this musical has only six to eight weeks to prepare. For the cast, there’s a lot to do, from music to choreography, and dialogue to monologues. “I think one of the challenges is the music because it is up tempo and fast paced and very wordy, like it’s all tongue twisters.” said Joy Bartoli, the voice of Audrey II. “The hardest part is the puppet because we won’t have a lot of time to work with it and we won’t even get it till much later. First of all learning how to use it, then timing with the songs and dialogue, that’d be a lot for the people working the puppet...

...On February 27, I had a chance to attend a jazz concert by French jazz pianist Bojan Z, which was taken place at the Institute for Cultural exchange with France (IDECAF) in Ho Chi Minh City. The concert was an opportunity for Bojan to feature some of his best work selected from the “Soul shelter” and “Transpacifi” albums, namely Natural Ground, Buzz, No 9, Pick It Up and Empty Shell. The performance also featured some new, incomplete works which are still being developed. Many of them were influenced by traditional Balkan music, as Bojan said. The band consisted of Josh Roseman on trombone, Ruth Goller on bass, Sebastian Rochford on drums and Bojan Z himself on the piano. Bojan Z began his concert by banging out a percussion rhythm on the grand piano’s lid and top, which was strange but really interesting. This acted as a intro point for a modern and funky, danceable jazz tune along with bitonal structures and bitonal points. At multiples times, he reached inside the piano and touched out bass notes directly on the strings like a bassist usually does on his own instrument. That was really amusing for the audience. Some of Bojan Z's tune were played through a couple of effects boxes (one of which as a digital delay) and occasionally on a xenophone, an electronic keyboard of his own design. His jazz technique is redoubtable, to be sure, and his solos scorch the air, along with his fingers never waver. For a few tracks, the melodies usually hides inside continuous ranges of improvisation...

...Club IT is a fairly new business venue that provides customers with a vast array of music that would cater to a wide variety of clientele. The focus of music they provide is Hip-hop, techno, Electronica, live band, and DJ’s with mp3’s. However, they feature other genres of music as well. The owners, Ruben Keys and Lisa Tejada, worked as musicians while obtaining a degree in business administration, which allowed them to gain experience with nightclub transactions. Their mission "We, Ruben and Lisa, offer you live music, DJ's, dance space and refreshments that suit your lifestyle. You are our friends, and we seek to build a community that meets regularly at Club IT" (Club IT, para. 4). The owners of Club IT have set a decent foundation for their business; however, after visiting the severely inefficient website there are several upgrades that need to be executed. The website that is currently used is vague. Club IT needs to upgrade its website. Possible suggestion for upgrades is initiating a blog that informs customers of future plans for the business as well as advertise upcoming events. Also, the merchandise section of the website should be constructed to allow customers to purchase products online. There is no process in effect that allows clientele to communicate with Club IT; therefore, a social networking program that allows customers to create a profile allows open communication with the owners to gain more insight to what their customers want. Such networking...

...4. In the section "Disadvantages of File Processing Systems," the statement is made that the disadvantages of file process- ing systems can also be limitations of databases, depending on how an organization manages its databases. First, why do organizations create multiple databases, not just one all- inclusive database supporting all data processing needs? Second, what organizational and personal factors are at work that might lead an organization to have multiple, independently managed databases(and, hence, not completely follow the database approach)? 6. A driver's license bureau maintains a database of licensed drivers. ...The Christmas concert I went to was amazing. My parents went with me and we sat on the track going around the gym so that we could get a good view of everything. The concert started out with the choir singing Veni, Veni, Emmanuel. Darrell explained that it was actually a chant. It was interesting to hear and I loved that the soloists were able to be heard even with everyone else singing. It seemed to add more depth to the music. There were more songs that they played, some in different languages. One was in Latin and I thought that it was something that was a once in a lifetime opportunity to listen to because I had never been to a concert that anyone sang anything in Latin. It was amazing. Later on there were two soloists that came out and sang two songs together. I thought that they were very brave and they sang very well. The band played next. They were spectacular. They played with such passion. The moment I heard them play Sleigh Ride, I thought about all the times that I rode a sled down my hil at mu home when I was little. There was one point where the little girls sitting in front of us got up and started dancing. They were Darrell's daughters. One of them started twirling and laughing, then grabbed her sisters hand and pulled her off to the side to dance with her. My parents started to chuckle...
