...When reflecting upon my Army story I begin with the necessity and desire to get out of my parents’ home and make something of myself. I worked hard in high school and always earned goods grades but after graduating high school I realized I had absolutely no plan for the next chapter of my life. As a child born into a family with somewhat of a military history I decided to give what my dad called “the service” or just the military as most young adults see it. I found the Air Force and the Army as my logical choices for a future early on. I was familiar with the Army recruiter from school visits and found him to be quite cool and very impressionable and not what I thought a soldier had to be. Despite my in counter with the Army recruiters I still...

...For those of you that don't know me my name is Brittany. I work at The Willows at Citation where I took care of Julia. For the short 3 months and 11 days that I knew Julia. I've learned something that no book could possibly ever teach me. On our Journey together I was constantly being moved and touched in ways that I often cannot describe. To live with Alzheimer's and still laugh, love and find joy is nothing short of amazing. I never got that chance to meet Julia when she was full of life and energy. Instead God blessed me with Julia on May 6th of this year. God had also blessed me with the ability to really connect with Julia. I spent many nights by her bedside, I've spent many hours listening, I've shared many tears with her daughter's and I've experienced many lifelong connections. Julia taught me the importance of living in the moment and finding joy in the small things. No two minutes were alike. Things were constantly changing and it put us on the wildest roller coaster ride imaginable. I must say it took a while and I'm sure I'm speaking for a few others when I say this but I came to realize that in order to survive, you must live in the moment and appreciate each and every good thing that happens, no matter how small. Sometimes you really have to dig deep to find the good in a lousy situation. The interesting thing is that bar is constantly moving. That thing that may have seemed completely insignificant a few months ago, can suddenly become the joy that gets...

...First Television Interview." Fox Movietone News. Fox Movietone News, FMN, April 30, 1931. I found this source important to my research due to the fact that it’s a firsthand interview with Mahatma Gandhi and it shows his values and beliefs during that time period. Also within the video he says what his “plan of attack” is which is useful to hear from Mahatma Gandhi himself. However since this picture is a newscast they could have taken things out that they didn't want other people to hear or didn't believe themselves which is a negative. Another negative is that it doesn’t show the peoples beliefs at the time it just shows Mahatma Gandhi’s. Gandhi, Mahatma. "Mahatma Gandhi." Speech, Mahatma Gandhi from India, London, October 17, 1931. I found this source useful due to the fact that is a speech and it shows Mahatma Gandhi’s views himself and it’s not an interview its him speaking to a crowd, However due to the fact that during a speech you’re trying to persuade a group of people. Mahatma could’ve said some things that he really didn't mean and he could've said it just to have people agree with him. Also it could be considered unreliable because it’s on YouTube and someone could have edited it and took things out. Gandhi, Mahatma. The Labor Monthly. ...Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in the town of Porbander in the state of what is now Gujarat on 2 October 1869. He had his schooling in nearby Rajkot, where his father served as the adviser or prime minister to the local ruler. Though India was then under British rule, over 500 kingdoms, principalities, and states were allowed autonomy in domestic and internal affairs: these were the so-called 'native states'. Rajkot was one such state. Gandhi later recorded the early years of his life in his extraordinary autobiography, The Story of My Experiments with Truth. His father died before Gandhi could finish his schooling, and at thirteen he was married to Kasturibai, who was of the same age as Mohandas himself . In 1888 Gandhi set sail for England, where he had decided to pursue a degree in law. Though his elders objected, Gandhi could not be prevented from leaving; and it is said that his mother, a devout woman, made him promise that he would keep away from wine, women, and meat during his stay abroad. Gandhi left behind his son Harilal, then a few months old. In London, Gandhi encountered theosophists, vegetarians, and others who were disenchanted not only with industrialism, but with the legacy of Enlightenment thought. They themselves represented the fringe elements of English society. Gandhi was powerfully attracted to them, as he was to the texts of the major religious traditions; and ironically it is in London that he was introduced to the Bhagavad Gita. Here, too, Gandhi...

...Survey of Major Writers of the 20th English Survey: Writers of the Twentieth Century In Two Soldiers, William Faulkner tries to highlight the relationship between a rural town and the United States as a whole during the Second World War. The story is told through an eight year old boy whose brother decides to join the army following an attack by an enemy. My sweet old etcetera on the other hand is a poem depicting various aspects of war. Despite the fact that both the story and the poem refer to the same topic, their views about war are exceptionally different. Views of War My sweet old Etcetera is a brilliant poem mainly because it manages to pass its message across. It is pertinent to note that the poem pays close attention to the little understanding that the people left at home understand about the war. It also demonstrates the actual view of the war from an actual soldier’s point of view. The poem starts by a revelation of how the soldier’s aunt perceived the whole idea of war. Apparently, Aunt Lucy took her time to prepare the soldier for the reality of what it meant to be in the army during war. It is, therefore, extremely clear that the aunt understood the risks involved in the war, which means that she appreciated the significance of the sacrifice made by the soldiers. In addition to that, the poem highlights the contribution of the soldier’s sister. This means that she appreciated the fact that the soldiers needed protective clothing. This demonstrates her passion...

...Army Story My family has a long history of service to our great country. From as far back as WW2 a member of my family has fought in every war this nation has endured. So from a very young age I have always been inspired by Soldiers from the uniform that they wear, to the sacrifices that they make to keep our country safe and free. So from a very young age I always wanted to carry on that tradition. With that being said my story began when I was 24 years old. I was self employed working in the family business with my dad and going to a local technical college. I made good money and didn’t hurt for anything. I worked my own hours for the most part and could take time off whenever I needed. Basically I had the best job a person could dream of. However, something was missing from my life. I constantly felt like I could do more, I was always very bored and unchallenged. I also always had this feeling of dependency from my parents. Even though I worked and made my own money I always still just wondered if something happened to my father would I know how to survive? That’s when it hit me. I wanted to prove to myself and everybody else that I could survive, that I could be my own man. So I started looking into the Army. I had a very good experience with my recruiter. He did what recruiters do and showed me all the options and benefits that the Army could offer me. He talked with my parents and addressed their concerns that all parents have when your child joins during a time of...

He knew that and he took advantage of it. In the first lesson with the class they were told to shut up by Mr. Vello, but class 4b didn’t follow that order. In class 4b, there were 3 minorities: There were “The Jews”, “The Gentiles” and “The Asians”. The ones who controlled the class, who had the power was the Gentiles and the Jews, who also called themselves “The Yids” and “The Yocks”, they fought about the power in the class. The Asians were different from the others. They were all first-generation immigrants. All the students except the Asians, was seen as the doomed dregs of the society. “Mr Vello saw the rest of us, immediately, for what we were: time-servers; time-wankers; boys full of nasty decadences. He marches the army into battle in April 6, 1862. “The Drummer Boy of Shiloh” a short story by Ray Bradbury. Ray emphasizes the importance of having courage to represent what you want to represent. For example Joby represents the heart of the army. Not just because he’s there. He represents the heart of the army because he is the one that leads them into battle. He makes them feel confident by the beat he plays whether it’s upbeat or downbeat. The drum is what gives the army courage to keep going. ...not live through the war. You haven't seen enough change and suffering to value solid principles’. I choose this story, The Interview by Gopal Baratham and choose the lines because it really captivates my interest in reading this story . Throughout the story ,It pictures a lot of things from the theme, setting, plot and the characters in this story. Theme usually is one of the important component in any story .In this short story , the themes can be divided into three. The first one is about life where being grateful a is very important in every human .As can be seen from the story ,Mason ,from a normal life, his life suddenly changed into a prisoners of war under the Japanese army .From a life where he can get all the life necessities easily , turned into a very hard life where he must be very strong in order to survive .However , eventhough things turned into supermassive distressing at the first place ,he still can survive .Eventhough he had only small amount of food everyday ,he was so grateful that he still alive in this world and still want to fight for his life .The second theme is where , we must control our mind and do not let our mind control ourself .This means that , in our life , we have to think thoroughly before doing something for ourself and we have to set our own mind not to only live in comfort zone .Like what have Mason mentioned in the story ‘Well, deprived is largely and attitude of mind.’(Page 53 Paragraph 3).The third is the importance of respecting...

...Media Coverage of the Army By 16 November 2005 SGM Olson Group M15 Media Coverage of the Army The American public has come to know the United States Soldier and the army through the influence of the media. The American people have formulated a certain trust and support for the American Soldier at war, because of stories told by the media. This trust and support is evident as more than half the American public is against the war in Iraq and the global war on terrorism. The Soldier and the army now become in the middle of a public opinion war because of views, stories and perceptions from the media. At the same time, the media has disrespected the American Soldier by describing American fatalities in the war as milestones. The Soldier and the army must change public opinion, and rise up with an over whelming public relations campaign telling their side of the story. The media is quick to report a head line of “American Soldier shoots Iraqi civilian”. The story reveals only a statement from the dead Iraqi’s wife who said “an American shot my husband”. All the public has seen is the head line and one side of the story. The public instantly forms perceptions against the American army. The Soldier and the army automatically become the bad guys, public opinion sways against the army, and the Soldier is under investigation. Two days later an investigation concluded that the Soldier was innocent. The...
