My Best Friends A best friend is someone who you can trust, know the truth, and loves you. It’s hard now a day to find someone with those qualities. But I am a very lucky lady that I have not only one best friend but two, who I can talk to and rely on on any given day or time. Those two best friends of mine would have to be my sisters, Jasmine and Jamie. I can go to them for anything, give me the best advice and nothing better then sharing clothes with each other. Considering we all live in different towns and states we always make the time to catch up with what is happening with our personal lives. We all get along great, sometimes we have our ups and downs but we always put that past us. Jasmine is the mother figure. She is the oldest and considering herself as a mother with a four year old son, my godson, and a sixteen month old niece, she definitely makes sure my other sister and myself don’t make the wrong decisions and calls us at least once a week just to see how everything is. Jasmine always enjoys my company and our sleepovers. I know there is only one best friend that people say you can only have, but I don’t follow that at all. My other sister Jamie, the middle sibling is by far the stuck up one. But Jasmine and I know how to put up with her. I would have to call her more of a best friend because she will tell me whether something is good or not or if she likes or doesn’t like anything and she’s not the type of person to hid her feelings. Sometimes you rarely get the truth from a friend. I am more then proud to have my best friends as my sisters. Without them I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Motivating me to have a future, attend and finish college, have a great career and have a family so their children can more cousins. Also now that I am of age they both waited for me and now are deciding on our sister

...We all have that one person we call our best friend. When we look for them we find things that you both have in common. For example, you both may have the same taste in music or like the same food. That is what brings you two so close, but as time goes by you find differences in each other. My best friend Glendy and me share some things in common for example, we love shopping, we are both Hispanic, and we have similar personalities. Although we have our similarities our style, tradition and attitudes are what makes us different. It is no secret that most girls love to go shopping. Glendy and me go shopping almost every week together, but even though we both love shopping we don’t always like the same clothing. Her style is more “girly” and...

...My best Friend It is often said that a dog is a man’s best friend, and rightfully so. Not only do dogs possess all of the qualities we look for in a companion, but they also lack those qualities and habits that we often find irritating in our friends and family. Dogs are loyal, caring, and enthusiastic. They are not offended easily, rude or mean as people can often be. I believe that at some time in their life, everyone should experience the joy of owning a dog. A dog companion has all the same benefits as a human companion without the constant work and effort required for human interaction. They will listen to you for hours on end without a single argument or complaint, when you’re sad there’s no one better to lay with you while you cry, and when you want to exercise they will be more than happy to accompany you on a morning run or hike. In fact, in many instances I find that my dog gives me a reason to get out of the house, thus motivating me to work out. Dogs are always willing to go on an adventure with you, whether it be going to the lake for a day or walking down your driveway to get your mail. They are always more than happy to tag along with you, making your chores and daily outings a little more pleasant. When I’m having a rough day nothing lifts my spirits more than walking through my front door and seeing my dog, sitting and waiting patiently. I don’t know of anyone else who is more excited to see me on a daily basis. It is an instant self-esteem boost to...

My Best Friend Ian

...Essay 1 My Best Friend Ian While most people think how they met their best friend is an amazing story, I believe mine trumps them all. I met Ian when I was about thirteen and he was fifteen, on the first day of school. Wanting to fit in, I was dressed in a way I thought was “cool”. I had a plaid button-up shirt, jeans, high tops, a very poor excuse of a Snapback, and some ten dollar white Oakley’s. By lunch I had made a few friends in all my classes; it was proving to be a pretty great day already. After getting my meal, there was a huge commotion coming from the back of the lunch room. It turns out it was someone’s birthday; gifts were being given and everyone was singing “Happy Birthday”. There were some usual party things being passed around, such as: party hats, cake, confetti poppers, etc., and some unusual things such as, little stick-on handle bar mustaches. By now everyone is having a jolly good time and I’m being only semi-awkward. Then this kid starts making everyone laugh, his personality was one in which you can’t help but like the guy. This was Ian, I remember him being a pretty tall guy, he had glasses, and the start of facial hair. He started gathering all of the left over party hats and attached them to his head. It started off with one on his forehead, another on the back of his head, and one on each of his ears. This continued until his whole head was covered in party hats! I remember thinking to myself, “Man this guy is crazy!” This was my introduction...

Melissa and I’s relationship is one that has grown so much throughout the years. We’ve gone to school with each other since middle school, but have only recently grown to be super close. After a few months of commuting to UB together, I noticed our relationship grow so much. I had never been close to Melissa and we both realized how well we got along, and also how similar we were. ...personal bias against animals. It is in this facet of the chapter in which I am able to connect my personal struggle with a bias. When walking into my first day of high school I was extremely nervous, not knowing exactly what to expect I didn’t go into the situation with an open mind. As I sat down for my first math class a foreign boy entered the room gazing for a seat. I remember vividly, for some reason not wanting the boy to sit next to me so I stared down at the desk, refusing to look up. Starring down at the desk I heard as the foot steps became louder and louder. Finally looking up I watched the foreign looking student sit down directly next to. After an awkward 15 minutes of no conversation the student turned to me and introduced him self saying his name was Egzon and that he was from Albania. Class after class we would have small conversations and I would do my best to seem uninterested. It was not only until our fifth class together till I realized how ignorant I was being. As I thought more about my situation going into high school, I soon observed that Egzon was the only kid that had made an effort to talk to be and become my friend. So from that day fourth I made a promise to myself that I would do my best to get to know Egzon. As the year passed by and we spent more time out of class and in school our friendship grew and by the end of freshman year we were best friends. At the end of the year I looked back to how foolish I was being. Just as Quammen did, I judged...

...power through all the homework that I had for the weekend or just do my usual Sunday night procrastination panic mode. Either way I was going to be panicking in some way or form. As I sat inside Love Library on a Thursday night, deciding on powering through the mountain of work, my phone buzzes twice, indicating I had a text. I look over at it and see a text from my friends back home in Dallas. I can’t help but smile and look over and see a screen shot of a picture of all 5 of us back in high school during our F5GNO sleepovers. The picture is of us posing altogether in front of Cheesecake Factory, thinking we were the coolest people to walk on earth. At the time, being only 16 years old, we felt like we ruled the world. “Are you guys ready?” as I read the group text from my best friend Kourtney. We called her KHam on all of our phones just cause we all had our own little nicknames for one another. It was the summer of 2010 before we all headed off to college. We all knew that our last days with each other were soon approaching, but it didn’t stop us from seeing each other every day practically and making plans and having sleepovers. “I’m about to leave to pick up Dahlia,” I texted back as I was heading out for the night. These four girls have been my best friends since the beginning of high school and any night spent with them was always a great story to joke and laugh about days later. “I’m leaving my house right now, should I pick up anything?” as Korrin or aka Korn as...

6 Types of Toxic Friends

...1. The Promise Breaker This friend constantly disappoints you or breaks promises, most likely because she herself was constantly disappointed during her formative years. Your friend is unable to stop herself from repeating that pattern. It is an annoying but comfortable pattern for your friend, and without psychological help, it may be hard for her or him to alter this pattern. You could abandon the friend and the friendship, or you could find a way to detach yourself by lowering your expectations for this friendship. If she promises to do something for you, even to meet you for a cup of coffee, you can say, "Sure," but protect yourself by knowing, in the back of your mind, that this friend "nine times out of 10" is going to cancel on you. Although your friend may always have been this way, she may have also recently acquired this trait because of something she is going through right now. If a friend who has always been there for you, through thick and thin, has only recently become less reliable, you might want to cut her some slack. You have to decide if this is a lifelong trait that will be hard or impossible to change, a temporary condition that will be short-lived, or something, if it does continue indefinitely, that you are willing to accept and handle. One way to try to change the Promise Breaker is to help her to understand the consequences of your ignored pledges. Perhaps you have been keeping your disappointments about this to yourself. Try telling her how it...
