...high school. During High School I was given an opportunity to intern at an international bank. So for 25 years plus all my work experience has been in International Banking including working for a New Zealand bank, a Belgium bank and for 24 years, I worked for a Middle Eastern bank. Although I did not returned to school for formal higher education in close to 30 years, throughout the years I've received outside training and worked in the fx/mm back office, trading room, hedged the banks funding portfolio, processed payroll, and functioned as the administrative assistant to the bank manager. Currently I am unemployed but a full time student. Returning to school for a business - related degree has always been a goal of mine, however, I could never quite figure out the precise timing where I would be able to juggle all of the hats I wear. My intermediate goals include to complete my bachelors in business administration in order to increase my earning potential, by the time my 15 year - old graduates high school. I as well want to become bolder in pursuing upward moves on the career ladder, especially because I'll have the educational background which will give me leverage to support me as I move forward. Yes, I'm doing this afraid, but I intend to finish it, while enjoying the ride. My ongoing assignment is my family - twenty-four years ago, I married my high school sweetheart who was, and is, the epitome of a supportive husband and amazing father to our two beautiful children...

...BASIC INPUT OUTPUT SYSTEM [BIOS] Seminar Presented by Milind Chile - 2591 Dipti Borkar - 2778 Freddy Gandhi - 2787 Raghav Shreyas Murthi - 2804 Introduction The BIOS, short for BASIC INPUT OUTPUT SYSTEM is a set of built-in software routines that give a PC its personality. Although, less than 32 kilobytes of code, the BIOS controls many of the most important functions of the PC: how it interprets keystrokes (Ctrl + Alt + Delete), how it puts characters on the screen, and how and at what speed it communicates through its ports. The BIOS also determines the compatibility of the computer and its flexibility in use. Although all BIOSs have the same function; all are not the same. The BIOS governs the inner complexities arising out of the odd mixing of hardware and software. It acts as a link between the material hardware of the PC and its circuits, and the transcendent realm of software ideas and instructions. More than a link, the BIOS is both hardware and software. Like software, the BIOS is a set of instructions to the computer’s microprocessor. Like hardware, however, these instructions are not evanescent; rather they are coded into the hard, worldly silicon of PROM, EPROM chips. Due to the twilight state of programs like the BIOS, existing in the netherworld between hardware and software, such PROM-based programs are often termed firmware. The personality comes from the firmware code. This code determines how the computer will carry out the basic functions needed to make...

...this assignment is my own or appropriately attributed. I accept that failure to follow the academic honesty policy may result in a failure grade, or expulsion from Champlain College. Date Due: _11/4/2015___ Date Submitted:_11/4/2015__ Abstract The Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Specification is an interface between the operating system (OS) and the platform firmware and is managed through the UEFI forum, a collection of chipset, hardware, system, firmware, and operating system vendors. One of many benefits of using UEFI is that it provides a more secure environment during the boot process by adding several security mechanisms such as secure boot, and update. With the added secure boot feature, the correct bootloader certification is needed and database key authentication is also required before the booting process. As a result, rootkit or other malware program have a hard time hijacking the boot process and concealing itself from the operating system. This paper will focus on the analysis of UEFI's secure boot feature and its implications and challenges for digital investigators conducting computer forensic investigation. Keywords: UEFI secure boot, boot firmware, malware, rootkit. Introduction To meet the demands of and preference for faster and more powerful computer most users want, hard disk drive manufacturers produce disks in excess of 2 TB. Moreover, most personal computers using the legacy Basic Input / Output System (BIOS) with master boot...

...When booting from my hard drive, I am prompted with an option to choose my operating system: windows 7 or Ubuntu operating systems. Upon choosing one of these, it takes me through the normal booting process. When booting from a CD – ROM or Flash, insert the CD or flash and then restart the computer. Press the "F8" function key as the computer restarts to enter into BIOS setting of the computer. You may have to press the "Ctrl" key at the same time depending on the manufacturer of the computer. If any problems arise, check the owner's manual for additional information as each computer can have different BIOS access options. After finding the boot option menu item in the BIOS, you should hard drive as the primary or first device. Use the up arrow key or space bar to select the CD-ROM as the primary or first boot device. Push the "Esc" key and then save the changes to the BIOS settings. The computer will restart then, and it should boot from the CD-ROM now. Depending on what you have on the CD rom for booting, the computer runs from that. I booted the BackTrack program from my CD-ROM in order to use the program without having it permanently saved on my hard drive. I navigated through the BackTrack program with no problems, but did not activate any sessions as it is used for hacking purposes. My computer uses USB for both the mouse and the keyboard, therefore it does not signal any beep codes as an older motherboard with PS2 mouse connectors would. The main difference...

...IT320 Unit 5 HW 1. When a router is first powered on, it completes a four-step initialization process: 1. Preforming a power-on self test (POST) 2. Loading a bootstrap program 3. Loading an IOS 4. Loading a configuration file The last three of these steps require the router to copy the files into RAM. Normally, most routers load an IOS image that is stored in flash memory and an initial configuration stored in NVRAM. 2. Routers use the following logic, in order, to attempt to load an IOS: 1. Load a limited-function IOS if the configuration register’s last hex digit is set to 0 or 1. 2. Load an IOS based on the configuration of boot system commands in the startup-configuration file. 3. Load the first file in flash as the IOS. 4. Use TFTP broadcasts to find a TFTP server and download an IOS from that server. 5. Load a limited-function IOS from ROM. In Step 1, the configuration register is a16-bit number that Cisco routers store in a hidden area of NVRAM. It can be set in a couple of ways and can be seen using the show version command. The most commonly used way to set its value is to use the config-register global configuration command. Routers use the 4 low-order bits of the configuration register as the boot field, which tells the router what to do in the first of the preceding five decision steps. If the value of the field is set to 0, the router loads the ROMMON (ROM Monitor), which is used for password recovery. If the value is set to1, the router loads...

...BitLocker Drive Encryption Overview 73 out of 98 rated this helpful - Rate this topic Applies To: Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista BitLocker Drive Encryption is a data protection feature available Windows Server 2008 R2 and in some editions of Windows 7. Having BitLocker integrated with the operating system addresses the threats of data theft or exposure from lost, stolen, or inappropriately decommissioned computers. Data on a lost or stolen computer is vulnerable to unauthorized access, either by running a software-attack tool against it or by transferring the computer's hard disk to a different computer. BitLocker helps mitigate unauthorized data access by enhancing file and system protections. BitLocker also helps render data inaccessible when BitLocker-protected computers are decommissioned or recycled. BitLocker provides the most protection when used with a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 1.2. The TPM is a hardware component installed in many newer computers by the computer manufacturers. It works with BitLocker to help protect user data and to ensure that a computer has not been tampered with while the system was offline. On computers that do not have a TPM version 1.2, you can still use BitLocker to encrypt the Windows operating system drive. However, this implementation will require the user to insert a USB startup key to start the computer or resume from hibernation, and it does not provide the pre-startup system integrity verification...
