August of 2012, the Mayans said the world was going to end, and I wasn't even going to have been out of eighth grade. Little did I know that my world would not burn in some natural disaster engulfing all of humanity, but instead it would come crashing down in a young love that has forever changed me. I had always thought Logan was pretty; everyone did, but we never had classes together. My AIG teacher had been trying to get me into the “gifted” classes for years, she told me my exam grades were proof of my “gift”, but that my day to day grades did not reflect my intelligence; finally Mrs. Carraway was able to have me take a COGAT test, which placed me among those who shared my “intelligence”. My school didn’t just have lectures, and worksheets and tests, we spent large amounts of time on socratic seminars; we talked, and we grew. Its at this school where I met Andrea, Taylor, and Destiny, and where I came to know Katie even more, that was my highschool clique, and according to Mrs. Baker we thought we ran the school. I would dare to say that what Mrs Baker said was fact, the teachers loved us, we had lots of friends, we ruled class discussions, and the discussions teachers had after class. These friends motivated me, they were all near the top of the class, and they all strived to best one another, they taught me to be my best self; academically, and socially. We grew from the petty high schoolers who feuded over me calling Andrea a derogatory term freshman year, to the friends who wouldn’t let anyone else keep us down. We grew up in the same neighborhood, we were on swim team together, and when we were little we would all play at the pool together. They were all a couple of years older than me, got their licenses, went to high school, and got jobs all before me. Really I am like their younger brother, we just get along really well for siblings. We all have known Brandon, and Stacy for about 5 years, we initially didn't like Brandon but nonetheless he grew to become a close friend, and Stacy was Hope's friend first, before she became a staple of our group. Now we had always spent the summer hanging out around the pool, but our world really grew that year, as did our bond. We were out every night till 4 am, only to get up early the next day to go went in the hot summer sun out by the water of the Emerald Golf Club, everyone else but I worked. The thing was though, Aubrea, Lyndsay, and Hope all worked at the Emerald, so even when they were at work we were hanging out, and s soon as the clock hit 7 pm and the pool closed we were off to whatever that night had for us. Midnight swimming sessions, late night beach trips, hibachi dinners, pranks around the neighborhood, walks downtown, hammocking, and overall shenanigans were were just the main activities this group of hooligans partook in.
