...daily October 14, 2009 JOURNAL ENTRY I came from the big family, and my dad always hoped that we all can graduate university. We came to United State in five different times. Fortunately, we had united in 1985 with my parent and eight brothers and sisters. In the mean time, we all lived together except my other two sisters who already got married. My dad had to work two jobs in order to support the whole family. I just liked a handicap person without speaking English, driving vehicle. As my dad’s dream, I also loved to go to college after graduated from high school. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a good job to help my dad with financial. I could see furrows on his forehead, wrinkles on his face after a few months my family reunion. I felt selfishly to go to school with his supporting. I decided to work hard instead of going to school; because I thought that the only way to share his responsibilities. The time went by, I got married, moved out, and had my own obligations. I had two children, and divorced when my youngest daughter turned six year olds. I still didn’t help him at all when I was raising the children on my own. I step on his foot to work two jobs to support my kids. I was so regretted to make the bad decision. I still burst into tears every time I talked to my children about this. What if I did go back to school, it took me six years the most, so I could make my own living and helped him as well. I taught them how important is when making...

...A Hero I was very excited to go trout fishing with my Dad on a hot day in June of 2007. I was only 6 years old but I have always loved to fish. We were going to catch our limit of fish but something happened. My fishing trip turned into a nightmare but a super Hero saved me. The Super Hero was my Dad. We parked on the side of the highway and gathered our fishing supplies. The place was called the Tree Farm. It is a big, dusty, field with little trees planted on it. It was a long, hot walk to the river because the hot sun was blaring down on us. At the river, we went down a steep embankment to the edge of the water. The air was filled with the smell of fish. This was a good sign that we would catch our limit of fish. My Dad baited my hook...

...On December 1st, my mom,dad and I went to Old Navy to see if there were any sale on. When we got there my mom separated and went to look at cloths. Me and my dad just walked around looking for a place to sit. While we were looking, I saw some hats and shirts that had Montreal Canadiens (my favorite hockey team) on them. At first I asked my dad if i could buy a hat, but I only saw a baseball cap. My dad didn't like it so I looked around a little more. After a while I saw something on the ground, around the racks. It was a pom pom beanie, Montreal Canadiens hat.I told my dad that I had found another hat and he said “it looks pretty good.” But the next thing he said made my life a lot harder.“If mom says it ok then you can buy it.” The thing...

...His cold hands are sitting in my lap. Tears drift down my cheeks as I come to realize what just happened. My father passed away right in front of me, and all he could gave me is a book containing a map. At this moment in time, I have no clue what the map leads to. I thought it was an irrelevant piece of paper from a cereal box. Little did I know, I was terribly mistaken. As I was walking into the door at my house, my brother, Obadiah, arrived to greet and hug me. Even though he was not as close to my father as I was, he knew the pain I was dealing with. My mother and him always got along very well. The day she took herself away from this life was one of the most tragic days my brother and I have experienced. Everybody we knew tried to comfort...

...Yamas, Niyamas, and Kleshas The yamas and niyamas were originally part of the “Yoga Sutras”. The “Yoga Sutras” are a series of short sentences through with the guru Sage Patanjali portrays his teachings. These short sentences are known to contain a great amount of wisdom. Sage Pantanjali conveys the steps through which even an ordinary person, like myself, can realize God. According to the Yoga Sutras, the yamas and niyamas are the first two steps in the eight - fold path of yoga. They are both eternal. The yamas and niyamas can always be applied to people’s lives. The eight steps or branches of Patanjali’s path are: yama and niyama (self-restraints and fixed rules to observe as the first steps to yoga), asana (postures/practices), pranayama (breathing practices), pratyahara (disconnection of the mind from the indriyas, or ten sensory organs), dharana (concentration), dhyana (meditation) and samadhi (a state of superconsciousness). The five yamas are ahimsa (non-violence), satya (truthfulness), asteya (abstinence from theft, honesty), brahmacharya (being established in divine consciousness), and, last but not least, aparigraha (non-possessiveness). The yamas are mainly qualities that the spiritual individual should have in order to communicate and interact with the outside world and the people in it, They are also self-restraints from performing actions of the weaker lower mind. The niyamas are the self-disciplinary qualities which are entirely devoted to helping...

...“Have you ever had a gun held to your head, Elijah?” My father's question bit into the cold night. The dark-indigo clouds above us seemed to press closer with every step we took on the walk back to his apartment. “I didn’t think so, Elijah. When I was just a little older than you, I faced that.” The falcate clouds crept lower and seemed to be on top of us when we finally got to the red brick apartment building he called home; I slumped on the couch whose arms were peppered with ash. The clouds from outside now felt as if they were pressing in onto the building from all sides. The question came after I realized that the man in the other room, my father, had taken me to a drug deal. Twelve-year-old me realized it wasn’t the first either. Twelve-year-old me realized why we went to what seemed like a new apartment building every other weekend when I went...

...spend countless hours online, in the library and talking to others with similar ideas of their latest and greatest “get rich quick” scheme. If only they would put the same effort into actually learning keys to success and reading literature that is actually worth the time you put into it more people would end up living how they always dreamed. For many, that’s all being rich will ever be, a dream. But then there are those who see no other option; they read books, take classes and immerse themselves in knowledge to try and gain an upper hand but even out of these few there are even less that will actually succeed in actually fulfilling their dream of becoming rich. However, there is hope, but only if you put in the work. The book Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki is a great place to start. It provides a solid foundation for those who wish to exit the “rat race” and start on the path to financial freedom. This book can be truly inspirational for someone who has had the dream of financial freedom but just didn’t know where to start or perhaps where to stop. It is thought that being rich is in the eyes of the beholder; but what does it truly mean to be rich?...

...teenager to be more specific, today spent 21 hours a week on just watching TV. In my opinion that’s a waste of time, since that more than a half of time we watch television, we use on programs with very low content. I spend about 1 hour a day watching television. It varies, because in the weekends I watch a lot more TV, than what I do in the weekdays. But in average I watch about 1 hour TV a week. My favorite program is American DadTM. It’s an American animated sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman for the Fox Broadcasting Company. I find it entertaining because of its ability to break people limits. It has, all though, been criticized by Parents Television Council (US) They have the opinion that the program is featuring suggestive dialogue, offensive language, moderate to strong sexual content, and graphic violence. But, as I mentioned earlier, that’s what I like about the program. American dad is of course not the only program I watch. Another program if find very interesting is TirsdagsanalysenTM which I watch with my dad every Tuesday. I like to be nuanced in my politician views, and therefore I think it’s a good property, that the program has both a leftist man and a rightist man to comment on the features the host brings up to debate. Watching TV can be both entertaining and damaging. Many teenagers spend their spare time watching a lot of reality programs. In my opinion that’s of course okay, but when you get addicted to a reality-program...

...Verania, Angelica M. BSA 2-10 ECON 2013 Prof. Aileen Camba “Rich Dad Poor Dad” Summary Robert Kiyosaki has two fathers, one is his poor dad and the other one is his rich dad. His educated dad and suggested to seek for Mike‟s father, his rich dad, help because he, himself, doesn‟t know how to make money. This is the start of their journey to becoming rich. ...that Kiyosaki used or experienced and he wants others to learn from. The first chapter Rich Dad Poor Dad is where Kiyosaki introduces his two fathers. He says, “one was highly educated and intelligent;… [and the other] never finished the eighth grade.” Both his fathers were strong and influential, and both were successful in their careers; but one struggled financially all his life and the other became one of the richest men in Hawaii. Kiyosaki was glad to have two fathers to learn from learned from. He was able to see the point of view of both the poor and the rich. Even though the time he started learning from them when he was nine years-old the rich dad was not yet rich and the poor dad not yet poor. At the age of nine Kiyosaki started listening to his rich dad. Rich dad taught six main lessons. The second chapter was the first lesson, The Rich Don’t Work for Money. Kiyosaki asked both dads if they could teach him how to get rich. Poor dad, Kiyosaki’s dad, responded that you need to make money. When asked how, he responded to use your head. Mike, Kiyosaki’s best friend and first business partner, remembered an experiment from a science book, and they started casting nickels out of lead, making their own money. At this time poor dad told them what the word counterfeiting meant and that that was illegal. Not wanting the boys to give up poor dad directed them to ask Mike’s dad,...
