My Day

...coffee tickled the tip of my nose just seconds before the old, faithful alarm blared a distorted top-forty through its tiny top speaker. Wiping away the grit of last night’s sleep, the stark white sunlight blinded me momentarily as I slung my arm like an elephant trunk along the top of the alarm, searching for the snooze button. While stretching hands and feet to the four posts of my bed, my eyes opened after several watery blinks. I crawled out of the comforter, edging awkwardly like a butterfly from a cocoon, swinging my legs over the side of the bed. The dusty pebbles on the chilled, wood floor sent ripples spiralling from my ankles to the nape of my neck when my feet hit the floor. Grabbing the apricot, terrycloth robe, recently bathed in fabric softener and October wind, I knotted it tightly at my waist like a prestigious coat of armour and headed downstairs to battle the morning. I was still feeling sluggish but could feel my senses waking up. The stairs creaked one by one as I descended them. As I walked down the hall to the kitchen, I could smell the fragrant flowers (we had in vases) in the living room. The thick plush carpet felt like cotton wool under my feet; so soft. Then the cold hard tile gave me the vicarious sensation of a winter’s chill that ran straight up my spine and evicted the sleepy cloud that hung over me. I began to feel energetic and highly alert I now needed to take care of my daily need. I poured the black liquid into my mug, added some cream and sugar...

...Comm 101 Scrubs Many people seem to think that many television shows destroy the brain, but as for numerous amounts of television shows actually depict a lesson to lure in an audience. Take the television show Scrubs. Written and directed by Ryan Levin, this comical series about a well-renowned hospital and its staff depict the everyday lives of four different characters. In this comical show that allows four friends to comment on their everyday lives about being a doctor, resident intern, and surgeon. A story line based on the comical genius of the producers of both South Park and Weeds. Follow me as I analyze both the good and bad aspects of all four of the characters tell their sides of the story through each others lines. The storyline of many different television shows normally have exactly the same sequence of events. First, the scene is set in a hospital. But as many people do not know, Sacred Heart Hospital is no ordinary hospital. Here, everyone hates everyone in a sarcastic manner. All the employees hate the boss, the chief of medicine; Dr. Bob Kelso because he is some hypocritical, crazed maniac that cannot even once admit that he really needs friends or loves his wife. As for the maintenance staff is concerned, the only person who actually is involved inside the lives of all four friends, the crazed Janitor, known as Janitor, takes all matters into his own hands when he begins his need for chaos with J.D. As for everyone else, they sort of just...

My Beautiful Day

...My beautiful day That inevitable question first hit me like a water balloon in the face while taking a nap in the summer sun. It's a major question that weighs heavier on our minds as we mature. "So, Michelle, what do you want to be when you grow up?" my kindergarten teacher asked genially, but for me, her smile was a farce. Why does she want to know? What's it to her? Suddenly, I saw my life flash before my eyes. I was an astronaut, a teacher, a race-car driver, a tattoo artist, a janitor. What would I be? I felt as though my days of playing in the sandbox and eating glue were over - I had to plan my future. But there, face to face with my teacher, I declared, "A giraffe!" My teacher stared at me for a long time; I still wonder what was going through her head. Maybe she thought I was on special medication or my parents were free-spirited hippies who taught me I could be whoever (or whatever) I wanted. Then she just smiled and turned back to the class. "Children, next Friday is 'Bring Your Kids to Work Day.' All of you will join one of your parents at his or her job and learn about what they do for a living. And on Monday, you'll share that by drawing a picture about your day! Won't that be exciting?" She clasped her hands and grinned at the rugrats sitting below her. Just then her eyes focused on a small jelly-covered hand that shot up into the air. "Can I go to the potty?" Apparently my class was not as excited as my teacher had hoped. A small light...

My First Day

...My first day at Cashmere High My alarm woke me up at 7 am. It was the 1st of February 2009. My body was still damaged from the yet lag of the long flight the day before. In My College Days...........

...In my college days, I was associated with Prayaas, a student’s initiative for teaching the under-privileged children of the nearby locality of our college and provide them a better education by providing them stationeries, books and tutoring them. To help with the financial requirement of the Prayaas, we collected newspapers, old books –copies from our batch mates, seniors, juniors in different hostels, which were later sold for making paper bags. We also sold Prayaas T-Shirts among our college mates so that we can generate funds for providing stationeries, books and copies to those children. And on weekend evening, we took out 1-2 hours of time to teach and guided the children. We team members had tough time initially convincing the guardian-parents of the children to make their children attend our classes. So we started with small number of children who were ready and seeing our dedication and sheer effort, other children also stated attending the sessions. because most of them had this notion that they have to pay for this tuition classes and they did not see any reason why they should send their wards to these session when they are already sending them schools. But we explained them that despite they are attending classes, these students must have some doubts, issues regarding their academics so that we can guide them. I would like to recall the college incident again when I was serving as the Joint-Treasurer of the Cultural Society of the college. The Cultural...

My Big Day

...here. My high school graduation. As I walked across that stage, hearing everyone scream and shout, I had realized I actually made it. I graduated high school. Shaking the principal’s hand as he told me what a great job I had done to make it this far was only the beginning. I, myself, couldn’t even believe this was happening. It was the greatest and most inspiring day of my life! I was astonished! It all started my ninth grade year. My mom became disabled so we had to move numerous times. I went to many different schools, which caused me to fail the majority of my classes. I always worked hard and tried to keep my grades up, but then we would move, and I would have no clue what was going on in class. It was hard trying to keep up on what I missed, learning new things at the same time, handling being bullied, and trying to help take care of my mom all at the same time. It was always just my mom and me against the world. We went through everything together until our last and final move. We finally moved back to our hometown. It was my senior year in high school and everything was going great until I left for school on the morning of October 30th. On my way to school, I was in a car accident. I fell behind my classes because I was out of school for three months. I worked hard every day trying to grasp the idea of what I was supposed to do and what I was supposed to study. It defiantly wasn’t the easiest thing learning on my own. Surprisingly, I had managed to pass all of my classes...

My Collage Days

...Do you agree or disagree with this statement. Give reason to support your opinion: " The college years are the best time in a persons' life" -- To some people, retirement years are the best time in their lives. People needn't work hard 8 hours a day, go around the office all day long but still having enough money to enjoy fulfill their lives. My Graduation Day

...second was pretty interesting. He talked about the teachings of Buddhism and it made a lot of sense. Another round of applauses thundered across hall after the speeches while students from each class lined up along the corridor. Many waited eagerly for their turn to go onto the stage to receive their souvenirs – a video of the school in a CD - from their form teacher. When it was our turn, we were all very happy. I am the class monitor and I had to assist the teacher to make sure the souvenirs were given out to the correct pupil. I was the last one to receive the souvenir from my form teacher, Ms. Tay. According to the organizers of this event, class monitors were to present a bouquet to their class form teacher. I held the bouquet with both my hands and transferred it to hers. We shook hand and hugged slightly. I was quite shy at that time because it was the first time I am hugging a female other than my mum. The class arranged themselves on the stage and shouted, “We love you, Miss Tay!” before everyone went back to our seats. I was not aware that our classmates intended to do this because other classes did not do this to their teacher. I was bewildered for a second but was glad that we were special. Soon when all the souvenirs and awards – for the prefects of our school – were given out, our school’s chairman, Venerable Ming Yi, gave everyone in the hall a blessing for our coming Level examination. He invited another venerable, whom he said was a student our...

Worst Days of My Life

...Worst Days of My Life A simple life has a different meaning and value for everyone. Life is beautiful, but not always easy, it has problems too, and the challenge lies in facing them with courage, letting the beauty of life act like a balm, which makes the pain bearable, during trying times, by providing hope. I myself experienced a lot of bad days. I may say that because people are more negative, or better to say we remember negative things better than the positive ones. We may handle same problems and facts about life differently, not only because people are different but also it depends on the place, and time the action is taken. One of my worst experiences in life or better to say the worst days of my life was the first year I moved to United States. It was September 9th of 2007, when my family and I went to get our visa for the USA. I remember exactly that day that my brother was standing outside of United States embassy in Turkey. He couldn’t come in because he was over twenty-one, so he was aged out from the family visa that we were supposed to get all together. Everything went well, and after the interview was done we went out to see where my brother is. He was crying outside! He always had a dream of coming to United States, and for that reason that he got aged out, he had to wait for eight more year for his dream to come true. I assume that my mom had the worst day of her life, that she can come to United States, but her son can’t, and has to wait for eight more...

My Best Day Ever

...My Best Day Ever       It seems to me that birthday celebrations’ become less interesting as time passes. There are no more party hats, balloons, cake, ice cream, and the joyful sound of “Happy Birthday.” I guess that’s why we hold all the good memories inside our heart, so whenever there’s a bad issue that may come up, we can reminisce on the past. In fact, birthday celebrations in my family were rare because my grandmother was raising eight children in a three bedroom house by herself, and she wasn’t able to provide certain things we needed at times. I do remember one special birthday that made me realize how important family means to me.       On March 22, 1979, it was a warm, beautiful, breezy, summer day, and I could hear the chirping of baby birds in their nest. Upon my face shined the bright sun through my bedroom window. This day represented my birth right of turning fourteen years old, and I needed to figure out what to wear on this special occasion. As I walked toward my closet door, there was a breeze of warm spring sunflowers gathering in each corner of my bedroom. As I inhaled this delightful smell, I thought of my favorite sunflower dress to wear. The length went below my knees and it had two straps on each shoulder. The base color of my dress was pure white cotton material with medium sunflowers patterns around the bottom. I chose my flat flip-flop scandals and brushed my hair into a ponytail with a white ribbon tied in a bow. At that moment in my life, I felt...

My First Day at the Eli

...My First Day at the ELI I had never been more disappointed in my life. On January 12, 2012, I traveled to Syracuse because I wanted to learn English as a second language at the English Language Institute. Now, as I was there for my first day, I realized that my frustration had only just begun. First, My English was not so good, and there were multiple English tests to determine the suitable level for me. When the first test started, a long piece of paper like a mat was distrusted among us, and I was required to read it and write a reflection about it in an essay format within an hour. At that time, I did not know what an essay is, and how to write it; moreover, I did not understand the article at all due to a lot of academic words I was not familiar with; as a result, I did not write anything. In addition to the writing test, I had to take a listening test and answer some questions. It was very awful since I did not get anything from that long conversation. The talk was quickly, and I could not write something down. Not only there were a writing and listening test, but also a speaking test as well. It was like an interview to test my speaking skills. The only things that I answered were what my name is and how old I am, other than that, I kept repeating this expression could you speak slowly? After I finished these tests, I thought there was nothing else to do, so I started to comfort myself and forget about these tests. However, I was mistaken; I was asked to go and...

My First Day at School

...My First Day at School After a patience of six years to become the known phenomenon as a student, I suddenly felt nervousness scatter my entire body. I was lost in my own thoughts and there were nowhere to escape. The excitement and enthusiasm that had been grown since last year where my parents told me the very unknowing thing school disappeared. I didn’t want that the school should be replaced by the comfortable kindergarten with the safely settings where my friends were. I became afraid of the unconscious, afraid of the strange and I began crying. I wanted that my father immediately turned the car and drove back home, but it was too late. We were only few metres from the school. My parents told me that it would be great and that I would meet new people, and get new friends to know. I would no longer be a little boy, but instead a big boy that went to school with own schoolbag with books in it. I knew that all the things my parents told me were just for to get me more comfortable in the situation. Actually it helped especially the last thing they told me and therefore I saw a ray of hope even though the circumstances. Was it so terrible as I predicted? Maybe it was just me who was too exaggerated. I was dressed in my finest clothes and my hair was weird done with help by some sticky trash, fashionable my mother told me. N. Zahle’s School was the name of the school where I began and spent my next ten years. It was a school of good reputation where my sister already...

My Most Important Day

...My Most Important Day I had always been curious about all the things in the world. In fact, my parents used to always mention how inquisitive I was. My world got difficult when I turned five. My parents thought it would be a good idea to hire an intense tutor to prepare me for school. At first, I liked my tutor, things were going well, but soon I became so overwhelmed by the pressure of studying that I began to rebel. As it turned out, all that preparation was a big waste of time. When trying to enroll several months later, new enrollment rules further inhibited me because I was too young. The school would not accept me until age seven and as a result I spent one more year with my tutor preparing for school. When I finally entered school, I was so bored because I already knew most of the material. As the years passed, my dislike for school slowly dwindled. I always wondered why we study all that stuff in school. I knew that if I could understand the purpose, I would be more motivated to study, which finally happened one day. It was a sunny Sunday; my father had a plan to remodel his garage into a workshop. At that time, I was fourteen years old and in the seventh grade, and of course I was eager to help him. The day before, we had cleaned his jungle-like garage. We were going to start to equip the garage with table saw, jig saw, drill, and other machines, but we had a problem. There was no electricity for the light or to run all the machines which we wanted to install. There...
