The decision on what to put in one’s body is an essential factor that determines a person’s overall health. There is a wide spectrum of vitamins and minerals that are contained in all foods. The consumption of too much or too little of certain vitamins and minerals can both be harmful or beneficial to one’s body. The utilization of food varies from person to person. There is no size that fits all. Several factors such as height, weight, age, gender, etc., can affect someone’s required daily intake of calories, vitamins, and minerals.
After looking at my dietary assessment sheet and grouping the intakes, I learned several facts about my diet. In spirit of the new year, I decided to alter my eating habits. I used to eat fast food everyday and …show more content…
According to Stephenson and Schiff (2016, p 326), there is an abundance of vitamin C and fiber in fruits. When examining my diet assessment, I had one to two servings of vegetables a day and zero servings of fruits. The little vitamin C and dietary fiber that I do get mainly comes from my consumption of broccoli and green peppers. In conclusion, my scarce intake of fruits and vegetables could be a contributing cause to my insufficient absorption of fiber and vitamin C. Plus, although it is purposeful, my carb intake is below the average. According to Stephenson and Schiff (2016, p112), this is linked to my choice of not eating any sort of grains such as bread, chips, cereals, etc. Finally, the results of my fat intake was also under 67 percent. From personal knowledge, my outcome is lower than the norm because I make healthier food choices and stay strictly plant and animal based. I was fairly surprised to discover that my potassium intake was within an acceptable range. I assumed that because I do not consume hardly any fruits that it would be lower than expected. ...Diet Scores and Comparing Food Records My second diet score went up and ended up being 10 points higher than my first diet score. I noticed that the individual scored that improved were me eating healthier, eating more fruit and vegetable servings, eating more calcium, and avoiding a lot of fast food meals. I think what helped me improve in these areas was for Lent, which is where I have to give up something for 40 days. So for Lent, I decided to give up meat, fast food, sweets, and anything but water. I think the only way my diet didn’t change or improve was me still not eating 3 meals a day. I still tend to eat big meals twice a day instead of eating 5-6 small meals a day or spreading out my eating times. I think what helped contributed to that was me not preparing my own meals, not eating at the right times or me just not being hungry.
