My extracurricular activities include: 2 years in the National Honor Society, 100+ hours of community service, and a delegate at the Congress of Future Medical Leaders Conference. These extracurricular activities have made a major impact in the growth of my life. I am currently the Vice President of the National Honor Society chapter of my school and we currently tutor many students and are leaders among our peers. My community service locations include: Clean the World, Three Square, and Opportunity Village. Participating and helping in these locations has taught me the value of items we may think are insignificant. Items like soap which is commonly thrown out, can benefit many people in third world countries who have no access to soap. Being

National Honor Society 4 Pillars Analysis

...Out of the four pillars that all of the National Honor Society members must exemplify, I believe I best exemplify the service pillar. The reason I believe that the service pillar is the area where I truly excel is because I am always trying to give back to the community. For example, I have volunteered and helped out at The Heavenly Father Catholic Church, Big Reds Ranch, math and science camp for the new generation of scholars, and at the Spanish Meadows of Brownsville. Every place where I have given my service to all works for the same purpose: giving back to everyone in the community. I have enjoyed working and would give all the time in the world if I could if it meant I would be making someone’s day even a little bit better. The place...

African-American Stereotypes

...eyes of the average American society. The stereotype includes being labeled as a criminal or being violent. As I were growing up living a “normal” life, it was challenging because I knew I would always have to work ten times harder than my classmates. All of my friends had a mother and father to support them and give them everything they needed. Even though I was a statistic for not having a father figure present, luckily I have a wonderful single-parent mother who worked so hard to nurture and support my brother and I. No one can take away my achievements in life and I will continue to prove critics wrong. Being a kid in Elementary, figuring out my dreams in life was tough because of teachers and ignorant human beings who doubted everything I wanted to become. For example; they would shut down my dreams. I...

Hispanic Heritage

...In anything that I decide to whole heartedly pursue in my life, I want to be an inspiration. I want to be a leader and a role model to my peers, but especially to my family and sisters. I want to be the one they look up to, the one they desire to be like through my academic achievements and extra-curricular activities that I have had the privilege to be a part of.  My parents come from families that had to sacrifice education in order to provide for their families. My maternal grandmother never experienced any education beyond middle school, she was needed at home to help care for her siblings and forced to take on the role of a mother at a young age. She made sure they were bathed and feed, waking up in the morning to fix their breakfast and get them prepared for school. She had to drop her youngest sibling off at the babysitter’s house every day, so that she could attend to her other motherly duties, such as cleaning the house and grocery shopping. She was not able to go to school and gain a full education; she was forced to give that up so that she could help stabilize her family because her mother could not do it all alone. In the Hispanic heritage, family is first and we do whatever is necessary in order to put our family first and make sure they are cared for. It does not matter the circumstances. If we have to work three jobs in order to provide for our families, then that is what we will do without hesitation. My paternal grandmother worked three jobs in order to give...

Teacher Morale

...CHAPTER I Introduction to the Study This chapter has eight parts: (1) Background of the Study, (2) Statement of the Problem, (3) Hypotheses, (4) Theoretical Framework, (5) Conceptual Framework, (6) Significance of the Study, (7) Scope and Limitations of the Study, and (8) Definitions of Terms. Background of the Study A laudable goal of elementary education is one that embraces pupils learning and helps prepare those pupils for a very competitive global society. In light of this one can argue that pupils’ achievement should be the main focus of every individual associated with school systems across our great nation. Teachers are a vital part of the educational system for they provide the motivation and support that pupils need in order to succeed. Yet, teachers also need to be motivated and supported in order to be productive. Teacher morale could suffer due to constant stress of trying to meet the educational goals. Improving teacher morale has many benefits in that it can help teachers to maintain a positive attitude and be happier at work (Govindarajan, 2012). Ellanberg as cited by Govindarajan (2012) found that where morale was high, schools showed an increase in pupils’ academic achievement. Conversely, low levels of morale can lead to decreased teacher productivity and burnout. Recent studies found out that the academic achievement of pupils in the Division of Antique did not meet the standard set by the Department of Education (Arguelles, 2012; Ople,2012; Doronila...
