My Favorite Place on Campus As I sit under the pavilion, I begin to recognize and appreciate how relaxing and refreshing the atmosphere around me truly is. Whether your purpose is to study, have fun or relax, the pavilion is the perfect place to do it. Many students agree that the best place on campus to study is under the pavilion. Other students say that they have had the most memorable experiences of their lives there. One of my absolute favorite places to study and do homework is underneath the pavilion. There, students will find themselves feeling peaceful and tranquil. When the birds and crickets chirp there is a soft and calming noise that echoes throughout the pavilion making one feel relaxed and serene. At times, studying can be extremely stressful, but with the wind blowing just right and the sounds of nature buzzing in my ear, I feel a sudden sense of peace. Focusing on schoolwork for long periods of time is a challenge for some students, but being under the pavilion helps most students unwind and focus on your goals. Students come to the pavilion on a regular basis, whether to play games or to simply have a conversation. It is a great place to gather with other people and to get to know fellow classmates a little bit better. Many of the relationships that form around OC will last a lifetime, and I can personally say that many of these connections and memories originate from under the pavilion’s roof. Some students often have Bible studies there. It is a quiet and soothing place to really focus on a certain topic or to discuss the word of God. Taking a break from studying every once in awhile is ideal for focusing and, therefore, succeeding. My favorite thing to do while taking a break is to look around and admire the beauty that God has so richly blessed me with. If you catch the sunset at just the right time, you will notice that the sky is completely indescribable. The vibrant pinks, purples, and reds visible from behind the clock tower look as if God just wiped his hand across the sky. Beauty such as this will make someone realize how mighty and awesome our God really is, and it will also clear your mind from your previous studying and help you move forward. In conclusion, there are many places on the Oklahoma Christian campus that are pleasant and serene, but none compare to the pavilion’s peaceful and exciting atmosphere. It is the perfect place to either get together for a study session or to just spend quality time with your friends. From personal experience, I believe the pavilion is the best place to relax, to have fun, and to study.

Personal Narrative: The Open Mic Night

...For my extra credit I chose to attend the Open Mic Night on campus at the Coffeehouse. The reason why I chose this instead of the Podcast was because I had never been to an Open Mic Night. I have watch many of 90’s movies with a scene that took place at one and had always wanted to check it out. To my surprise when I arrived there was mix of various ages that attended. I thought due to it being located on campus and not really in a “university” atmosphere that it would have been just St. Charles Community College students. Not so. There was a little girl who couldn’t have been more than 10 years old who sang, “Let It Go” from the movie Frozen, all the way to a sweet elderly lady who was probably in her 80’s, that recited poetry she had written....

...performing arts or the depressing effects of the atomic bomb on the youth and the country as a whole and you’d still be left with so much more to explore: calligraphy, enka, origami, clothing, social hierarchies, etc. There’s so much about the country to fall in love with. Those who have are called otaku. The term refers to those with an obsessive or above-average interest in Japanese culture but most especially in the country’s anime and manga. Naturally, those in our country, and even in our campus have fallen in love with Japan, so much so that the practice of that love has become a culture in itself, otaku culture, if you will. Students of the Ateneo are wont to talk about their favorite anime and manga and display quite prominently how they love that small island country with events, clubs, gathering places, and what have you. Otaku culture is indeed one of many modern-day cultural phenomena that has taken a firm grip on Ateneo’s campus in terms of popularity. It hasn’t always been like this however. Up until the past few years, the industry of anime and manga was only consumed by niche audience, but now, the medium is consumed by both children and adults alike. The...

Favorite Brand (Toms)

...Favorite Brand MKT/421 Favorite Brand In the world of consumerism, a brand or a favorite brand is important. However, why it is so important is the key to being so successful. That brand has to speak to the consumer, reach out on an emotional level and keep the consumer coming back. “Brands deliver emotional connection to a business’ products and services. Most purchase decisions have critical emotional components” (Shoultz, 2015). For these reasons, we will discuss my favorite brand and its success, TOMS Shoe Company. TOMS TOMS Shoe Company is a unique and inspired company, founded by CEO Blake Mycoskie and what the people in the business refer to him as, Chief shoegiver. TOMS has an interesting background, and what seems like a very unlikely place to find inspiration, comes out of nowhere to create one of the most successful businesses of its kind. Mycoskie, an entrepreneur from Texas, had several startup businesses from driver’s education to a campus laundry facility. In 2002, Mycoskie and his sister were on the popular television show, The Amazing Race. On this show, Mycoskie found himself in several countries in South America, in which one he fell in love with, Argentina. It was here he discovered the inspiration for what would be the driving force for TOMS. The Idea While in Argentina, Mycoskie discovered the true reality of poverty in the small villages outside Buenos Aries. People and children so poor they could not afford shoes. Mycoskie learned that not having...

How could I express the yearning I had to return to the days when Briana and I would make workout videos disguised as hip grannies, choreograph dance routines to Demi Lovato’s Get Back, belt dramatic Broadway-worthy duets, and compete in Olympic-style kayak races to Fox Island? What words could convey the nostalgia I felt for our Spy Club and the secret marble notebook we’d furtively pass back and forth, a million absurd conspiracies scrawled in our messy handwriting? But most of all: how could I express the fact that, in a tragic blur of boxes, move-in day had brought all of our sacred rituals to an end?...

Everything was really fast, I when I realized I was I the plane, alone, flying to the United States. Thousand of thoughts came to my mind… “Did I take the right decision?”, “Do I have to stay at home and start to work, as all my friends are doing?”. However, I was already in the plane, I couldn’t go back! My first stop was in Washington, where I stayed in the house of a friend of my mom. One night I went out with his son, who invited me to a bar where his friends were. When we arrived, I tried to greet their friends with a kiss in the cheek… terrible mistake! Why anybody told me that in this country, it is not use to give kisses?!?! The girl seemed to be shocked, or scared, and the rest looked at me like thinking that I was crazy! And that’s how I learnt my first lesson… you don’t have to distribute kisses all around the world! A few days later, I arrived to Richmond. I couldn’t believe when I saw this place, I felt like in a movie. The campus, with its antique buildings, full of trees and a beautiful lake, it is really different from my home University. Moreover, I knew that my whole lifestyle was going to change. In Argentina, I live with my family, and I go to the University when I have classes, and then I go back home. Living in a campus, having a roommate, eating in a Dining Hall, everything was new to me. The international...
