...My first day at Cashmere High My alarm woke me up at 7 am. It was the 1st of February 2009. My body was still damaged from the yet lag of the long flight the day before. It took my eyes a couple of minutes to realize where I was, and what was about to happen the following day. I got out of bed, went into the bathroom to shower up before going upstairs for breakfast with my new Host family. My Host mother had told me the night before she would drop me of at School before going to work. I sad there around the table, wearing a black shirt and a colour full t-shirt and felt how every bite of toast was a effort to press down. I finished of my coffee and went downstairs to back my school bag. Ten minutes later I was there. My host mother left in front of a door saying “Cashmere High head office” I Went inside and turned to the front desk immediately where a woman wearing a blue dress sat. I told her my name, and where I was from. She pointed me through another door going into a bigger hall way. There I found another 10 foreign student nervously standing around. We stood there for a while too shy to start the first conversation, waiting for someone telling us what to do. A short foreign looking lady came in to the room to greet us all welcome. ...My First Day at School After a patience of six years to become the known phenomenon as a student, I suddenly felt nervousness scatter my entire body. I was lost in my own thoughts and there were nowhere to escape. The excitement and enthusiasm that had been grown since last year where my parents told me the very unknowing thing school disappeared. I didn’t want that the school should be replaced by the comfortable kindergarten with the safely settings where my friends were. I became afraid of the unconscious, afraid of the strange and I began crying. I wanted that my father immediately turned the car and drove back home, but it was too late. We were only few metres from the school. My parents told me that it would be great and that I would meet new people, and get new friends to know. I would no longer be a little boy, but instead a big boy that went to school with own schoolbag with books in it. I knew that all the things my parents told me were just for to get me more comfortable in the situation. Actually it helped especially the last thing they told me and therefore I saw a ray of hope even though the circumstances. Was it so terrible as I predicted? Maybe it was just me who was too exaggerated. I was dressed in my finest clothes and my hair was weird done with help by some sticky trash, fashionable my mother told me. N. Zahle’s School was the name of the school where I began and spent my next ten years. It was a school of good reputation where my sister already...

...familiar ringing tone of my alarm pierced through my fading dreams as I woke up with a start. The day had finally come. I was going to start working. To many, including myself it was a surprise. But what was more surprising was the sudden gush of emotions I felt. I was excited about discovering the new phase of my life, feared the unexpected and sensed a feeling of loss and nostalgia. The walls of my room seemed to hold no answers to the innumerable questions that crossed my mind as I sat staring into the distance deep in thought. Hearing my mother call out to me, I finally dragged myself out of bed and noticed the neatly ironed shirt and pair of trousers that she had carefully picked out and smiled to myself. That morning my appetite had deserted me. After a string of advices I finally left home. The cab was late by twenty minutes. As I reached, it was an eight-story building and the atmosphere of the corporate world that seemed like a shroud around it that greeted me. It was lunchtime and the crowd seemed to be getting bigger as I stood there waiting for the lift. And unfortunately that day only two of the four lifts seemed to be working. Finally the lift opened up to the fifth floor and I walked to the Security Desk where I met my batch mates. They seemed as perplexed and nervous as I was. The Security Guard clad in a blue uniform directed us a room and I managed to seat myself on the first bench. Unknown faces surrounded me and I was glad that Neil, one of my best friends was there...

...My First Day at the ELI I had never been more disappointed in my life. On January 12, 2012, I traveled to Syracuse because I wanted to learn English as a second language at the English Language Institute. Now, as I was there for my first day, I realized that my frustration had only just begun. First, My English was not so good, and there were multiple English tests to determine the suitable level for me. When the first test started, a long piece of paper like a mat was distrusted among us, and I was required to read it and write a reflection about it in an essay format within an hour. At that time, I did not know what an essay is, and how to write it; moreover, I did not understand the article at all due to a lot of academic words I was not familiar with; as a result, I did not write anything. In addition to the writing test, I had to take a listening test and answer some questions. It was very awful since I did not get anything from that long conversation. The talk was quickly, and I could not write something down. Not only there were a writing and listening test, but also a speaking test as well. It was like an interview to test my speaking skills. The only things that I answered were what my name is and how old I am, other than that, I kept repeating this expression could you speak slowly? After I finished these tests, I thought there was nothing else to do, so I started to comfort myself and forget about these tests. However, I was mistaken; I was asked to go and...

...“First Day of My Life” Conor Oberst was born on February 15th 1980 in Omaha Nebraska. He has been writing, recording and performing since 1992. He is mostly known for his work with the group “Bright Eyes” but he has also done solo projects and side projects such as Desaparicidos. Conor is also one of the founding members of Saddle Creek Records and Team Love Records, which started such bands as Rilo Kiley, The Faint, and Azura Ray. With Bright Eyes, Conor has released 15 studio albums to this day. In 2005 the band came out with two albums at once, “Digital Ash in a Digital Urn” and “I’m Wide Awake it’s Morning.” The song I have chosen comes from “I’m Wide Awake…” and is the 6th track on the album. It’s a slow acoustic song about love, and love not being returned but overall has an upbeat tempo and meaning. The song is all done acoustic with no percussion or electrical instruments, just the singer and the guitar, with very little other background instruments that you can only sometimes pick out backing up the guitar. This soft approach really lets you listen to the lyrics without being distracted and helps you feel the overall meaning of the song. With the lighter than normal background music and his soft-spoken voice the song is an easy listen that has a lot of emotion behind it. The style of writing he uses for his lyrics are very basic. He uses common words without any catchy hooks or chorus, which, to me makes his words have a deeper meaning. He’s not writing or making...

On the first day of class i got to know that my lecturer for english is Miss Yumni Yassin. Firstly we were asked to introduce ourself. Then our lecturer set some rules and regulation for us such as '' no late comers are allowed in the class'' and we can only speak english language in our english class even to our friends. Even though its hard for some students to follow theese instruction but i think setting these rules is very good idea. Because it makes us to be more discpline and punctual. Next we are given a chance to sound out what we aspect from our english class, and how to make our english class interesting for all of us. Besides that we are also required to take out a piece of paper and a pen. Then we are require to write down which part in english are we week in. After that we were asked to send the paper to her without writting our name this is because few of the students might be shy to tell about their weakness in english language because they think they will ''lose face''. First, I went to my 1st hour class. My 1st class was science. I had no problem with I will I be sitting. Next, until 1st hour was finished we went to our 2nd hour. I was confused where I was going. I really did not see all my classes. ...The faces of my coach, my teammates, and myself were covered in sadness and disappointment. It was the day of the State Cheerleading Championships at the Siegel Center at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia; a day I will never forget. The morning of the biggest competition of the season I woke up bright and early to get myself ready to go to Grassfield High School to meet my team. Upon arrival at our school, my teammates and I joined together in the gymnasium and set out the cheer mats so we could warm up our skills. We ran through our tiring routine and practiced our individual stunts as much as we needed to in order to feel prepared to compete. After what felt like a successful warm-up, my teammates and I put the mats away and sat around in the gym, anxiously waiting to leave. After what felt like several hours, our charter bus arrived to take us to our competition. We all boarded the bus and got out our uniforms while the team captains checked to ensure we had them with us. We tried to get comfortable for our two to three hour bus ride and off we went. Because it was early, we went...

...Memoir I remember clearly how my first day in 5th grade went at Sally K. Ride. I went through those horrific doors and it still shocked me that boys and girls go to the same school and there are no uniforms. It all started the day before the first day of school; there was an orientation for the new kids. I met my teacher, Mr. Picca. His name reminded me of this cartoon, Pucca, that I used to watch when I was a younger. Seeing that I’m not the only new kid calms me down a little but not enough; I knew they were not as nervous as I am. This was my first public school experience. Fast forward to the first day of school. I was really having a difficult time choosing an outfit for school. It was so much better having uniforms. Can’t decide...
