...all of you for reaching the final week of this course. It all goes by so quickly. Below I describe all of the work you’ll need to complete during this final week. SUNDAY-TUESDAY, JUNE 19-21 • Complete your research. By now, all of you should have finished all research for the upcoming Recommendation Report. If you haven’t done so, be sure to finish it on Sunday in order to leave at least two days to write the report. • Write the first draft of the Recommendation Report. Please do NOT begin writing this report on Tuesday – give yourself at least two days to work on the writing of this lengthy report. I suggest that you keep the assignment in front of you, and do feel free to take a peek, as useful, at the model Recommendation Reports that I posted in Content, Week 4. Seeing the models will give you a good idea about the organization, design, format, visuals, and length that work well for this assignment. Be careful, though, not to copy the style of writing from the samples – instead, use your own natural business writing style for this assignment. Also, keep in mind that the models don’t always adhere to my assignment criteria, so if you ever see that the models are not following the assignment requirements, follow the assignment and ignore the models. • Post a single file containing your first draft of the Recommendation Report in the dropbox by midnight, Tuesday, June 21. No extensions are possible for this first draft. Note that if I notice anyone...

...Ashley Eller December 12, 2011 UCWR110-022 Final Reflective Essay On Writing My favorite author and literary genius, Stephen King, in his memoir On Writing wrote, “Write with the door closed, rewrite with the door open.” This is possibly the best piece of advice I could ever think to give to a struggling student with a paper to write. Your first draft is always for yourself and your own personal reflection. In your second draft, “open up the doors” and write for everyone else who will be reading it. Without this solid piece of advice, I don’t think I could have ever expanded on my writing at all. Over the years, my writing career has hit its peak in junior year, and I have plateaued from there. Since being a UCWR student, I have had the chance to expand my range in my writing skills. From this course, I have learned to expand my writing ability to subjects I would never have broached before, allowing myself to heighten my awareness of the world around me as well as hinder my procrastination. In the beginning of the year, I was very disappointed I would have to take this course. From my previous experience with accelerated English and rhetoric courses, I felt I would be bored and disappointed with the classroom experience. Over the course of the semester, I have learned I was wrong. While in the beginning my engagement level was poor, I was still interested by the current events brought up in class. Some of the biggest topics we discussed (Occupy Wallstreet, Penn State...

(You will use a different child under 8 years for AO4) PATTERNS OF GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT (AO1 A) Identify the key stages and describe in detail two patterns (milestones) of development for each of the following: Physical growth and development (suggest 1 dev & 1 growth, eg gross motor skills & teeth) Intellectual development...

...Entering this course, English 214, the perspective that I had is that it would not be as different from my prior English class, English 114. As I began to learn about the course and its structure, it did become clear that both English classes would not be too distinct from one another. For instance, this course would also revolve around your own topic of choice, in which throughout the semester your writing would be based on that topic. I personally like this structure of the class, since I am able to grow as a writer, reader, and critical thinker while studying and researching a topic that interests me. My understanding of writing at the beginning of this course, I believed that the only way that I was going to improve would be through...

...essays for my English classes. At first, I did not have a reliable writing process. I would free write a rough draft and turn it in as a final draft. I would also write last minute instead of using the time to create a well-thought essay. I focused more on passing a class rather than boosting my writing skills. Now that I am in college, I take writing seriously. Throughout the years, my writing process has drastically changed. As a writer, I will continue to advance my writing skills. Prewriting is significant when preparing for an essay, although this step is most of the time ignored. The process of writing is just as important as the writing itself. Prewriting is great for writers to have an organized essay. Sectioning the writing process can make writing less stressful and gives the writer more time to go back and improve their paper. My writing process consists of brainstorming, outlining, rough drafting, and peer revisions....

...Being at Allegheny for this semester has taught me a lot about my writing habits. In almost all of my papers, I stray way off track just to make a point that needed one sentence of explanation. During the time I sent on my final portfolio, I really tried to focus on getting the point across in much shorter detail and making sure I am staying on topic. The thing that has helped me the most is the feedback I am receiving from you and my classmates. I decided to begin with my original research paper, which is my text of choice, and follow with my final draft of my research paper. My main reasoning behind that was to show how I interpreted the feedback from the in-class peer review. In my first draft, I only mentioned Willard Cutter in the first two paragraphs and the closer. During the research process, I had a very hard time finding information on Willard himself and not the Civil War in general, and that really shows in my paper. So during my revisions, I went back to special collections and incorporated information during those specific events and some of what Willard wrote to his family. With this, I made sure my paper has much more to do with Willard Cutter than just the main events of the Civil War, helping me stay more on topic...

...It’s a quiet day at Inverness in Macbeth’s court. Banquo sits solitarily thinking over Duncan’s death. “Could it really have been him?” Banquo asks himself, suspicious of Macbeth’s thirst to be on top. He begins to start determining whether or not he should make a visit to the witches, when the sound of roaring trumpets tear through the silence. In comes Macbeth and Lady Macbeth along with two of their most loyal noblemen Lennox and Ross. Macbeth then announces that he will be holding a banquet in the evening and Banquo is to be honored as the chief guest. Banquo states that he must ride in the afternoon but will return for the banquet. Later that evening the festivities begin. The first to arrive consist of Lennox, Ross, and other loyal noblemen and women of the land. Everyone is standing around enjoying themselves when Ross realizes something. He walks towards a group of people whom one of them is a good friend of his, Lennox. Ross pulls him to the side to ask “Who is that strange man Macbeth is talking with?” Lennox looks over his shoulder to see Macbeth talking to a man he has never seen before.” I don’t know, but I’ve never seen Macbeth looks so uneasy,” says Lennox. Just then the mysterious man makes a swift exit. “Must have just been a peasant, a beggar of some sort” Ross points out.” Yeah, must be” Lennox says suspiciously. In a short time, Macbeth announces that the feast will take place, directing his guest to the dining table. Everyone makes their way to the table...

...I have mix feelings about writing. This only applies when I’m writing a paper for school. When I get a writing assignment, I would dread over hours at end in till I start my assignment, however while I’m writing, I feel relax and calm. The main reason I would dread about writing is because I’m not too well at writing. I could blame this to procrastinating and distraction, but writing is not my strong suit. Through high school, I would have some problem writing, this is mostly because I don’t have a good writing style. My old writing style would be either doing the paper all on one day or writing over time but doing little to no revising. With this writing style, I would get terrible grades on my paper, so to improve fix my writing, I would...

...wonderful English education. I believe I had received the best English education that any high school student could have. I personally believe that I have grown in my writing. I do know that I have some problem areas in my writing, however. When I start with a rough draft I always write in first person. I have some trouble with my grammar, but I continue to grow as I further my education. My Media essay, “Sexism Manifest in The Arena”, dealt with the issue of how prevalent sexism is in our society even in popular public figures like Hilary Clinton. In my RBAA essay I talked about how America needs to correctly respond to the intimidating terrorist group, ISIS....
