...My first experience at a classical concert took place on Friday, November 14, 2014 at The Perelman Theater. I got to see the quartet Quatuor Ebene. The hour and fifteen minute performance was very enjoyable. The Perelman Theater is a 650 seat recital hall. The room is designed to create an intimate feel with 3 levels of seating. The room has amazing acoustics. Chairs in the first level of seating are able to retract in order to create a deeper stage, complete fly-loft, and orchestra pit. I sat in the third level of the theater due to my tickets being college priced tickets. Although I was higher up I was still able to be very involved in the performance. I think no matter where you sit in the theater the sound quality and experience will be the same. The smaller setting allowed for a more personal experience....

...My first encounter with an abusive relationship was at the tender age of nine. I had lived with my grandparents ever since I was born due to my mother being very young and devastated because the person she thought would be her one true love for the rest of her life had left her without a trace of why or where to. Therefore, my grandma was the person who took care of me since birth. She taught me from a very young age that love was the most important thing in the world and so that is what I believed. But that was all about to change. After nine years, my mom found someone else and we were all extremely happy for her! She seemed more motivated in life and overall happier. She began spending time with me and I really enjoyed being around her. Overtime we got closer and learned more and more about each other. It was nice to have someone else there for me apart from my grandparents. But I had no idea what was coming. On February 2009, my mom announced to the family that she was pregnant. My grandparents looked worried but nevertheless they congratulated her and told her they would be there for whatever she needed. My mom followed by telling them that she was planning on moving in with her boyfriend and starting the family she had...

...One day, while my I was at my dad’s house for a weekend, I got to try something new, and scary at the same time. The house my dad lived in with his girlfriend, Abbey, had a yard that was about 2 acres. There was a big dirt track around the entire yard from where her son, William, rode four-wheelers around with his uncle. While I was out in the yard with William, who is currently 9 years old, his uncle, Randy, was using the four-wheeler to trim trees. When he was done, he let William ride around on the four-wheeler by himself, and William was a pro at it. I know William’s dad has had him on four-wheelers since he was about 4. Seeing the tiny, little 9 year old on a huge four-wheeler made me laugh a bit. At one point, WIlliam had me ride on the back while he drove it. It was very fun. William wanted me to drive though, and I didn't know how, but William fixed that. He went to his uncle and asked him to teach me how to ride the four-wheeler by myself. It was easier than I thought it would be, just learning the basics on how to go faster and steering and simple things like that, and then he let me go on my own. I started up the four-wheeler and I drove. I rode the...

...From my experience as a first-generation college student, I have deeply rooted respect for hard work, meritocracy, and perseverance. I met first hand the challenges of navigating academic bureaucracies, networking among faculty, integrating socially, and grappling with identity shifts from my home community. As a result, I grew self-sufficient and can better empathize and discern the needs of others who are not unaware of available resources and/or feel guilt towards using government-provided support services. More importantly, I feel obligated and humble towards those who have helped me along my path to higher education and in return, I seek to increase veteran health literacy by elevating health services knowledge, encouraging active communication...

...known before my first experience with drugs and alcohol. | | | By: unknown | 1/25/2012 | | What would I have liked to know before the first time I did drugs or alcohol? Well the first time i really drank to get drunk i was in 8th grade. I had no idea what the difference was between vodka or tequila, and i also didn’t know that some alcohol doesn’t mix well with others. So I got into a drinking competition with a female that I had been friends with for a while. She bet that she could drink more than me so we kept going back and forth taking shots of different alcohol. I don’t recall too much from that night because I blacked out and ended up puking after I had passed out on a couch. But I do remember the last thing I drank was a shot of tequila and I couldn’t stand the taste. Just from that I wanted to throw up and while throwing up that was all I could take. Ever since I can’t stand to be around the smell. That night I had no idea that you can die from drinking too much or that alcohol poising is a real thing. I had no idea what BAC was or that there are many diff factors to drinking. I wish I would have known that it can be unsafe to drink until you can’t drink anymore. I also wish I would have known that if you puke than you are the one to clean it up, I had no idea what a hangover was. Cleaning up puke with a hangover is not a fun time. Other than that I don’t think there is too much more I would have cared to know before I drank that night. The first time I smoked...

...My Writing experience: The Good The Bad and The Ugly I can recall a time when I had to write a paper for English Composition I. I was attending Ivy Tech Community College at that time. The professor asked the class to write a paper about our major, my major was Early Childhood Education. This experience I had at Ivy Tech was not my first when it came to writing a formal essay, but it was just as nerve wrecking as the first time. When I began writing formal essay papers, in high school, it was not easy for me. In the first part of this essay, I review my experience with writing in my childhood, then I will be talking about my terrifying writing experience in high school, and finally the years that have passed since I have not written any formal essays. In the second part of the paper, I describe my experience with Microsoft word, my experience with using MLA formatting style, and my experience using documentation in research papers. In my childhood, I have been state to state and attended...

Life Event 1 (title):* My Fathers’ Baptism In one paragraph, explain why this event was significant to you.*This is a story that my father who came from a background of hate and racism told me. While my grandparents raised him to hate someone that wasn’t his race he found true friendship with a friend (Robert who was black) through his job. They remained close throughout their friendship until he died from cancer and my dad made a promise to take care of his family. After a few years my dad and Robert’s widow (Laura) my mom fell in love and had two girls me and my sister Amber. We all became a family after my parents married. The significance of this to me is that now I understand why we were raised to love all people and not to discriminate because it’s cruel and hateful and as my dad says “its just plain wrong” and it has helped me to become an open-minded and a non-judgmental woman. In a second paragraph, describe how you felt after the experience. *What I experienced in that moment of learning everything that I was pretty...

...Amit's First Candy In this essay I will be talking about my experience regarding my first candy. I don’t remember exactly when, where and which candy I had. However, I still remember my aunt used to bring me lots of candies and those candies were always special. These candies were special because they were brought from abroad. My aunt lived in Canada. And the candies in Canada, in comparison to the candies in India tasted different. I still remember how I used to wait for my aunt to come home and bring me candies. I love eating candies. As a child, whenever I was hungry I always felt like eating candies. When I would cry, my parents would give me candies to keep me quite. So these small-small things, make my experience memorial. I will remember my first candy experience my whole life. Every child is fond of sweets like candies, chocolates etc. I was no different from other children. Whenever I got a chance to buy sweets like candies I never missed the chance. I still remember how I used to convince my mother to buy me candies. I would have the urge to eat candies, when I saw other children eating candies. I still remember how I used to fight with my siblings for candy. And I always won the fights and had the most candy. Even though we are grown up, we still fight over small things like candy just for fun. It is hard to believe that we used to cry when we didn’t get the same amount of candy divided amongst my cousins and I. It wasn’t easy to share the candy fairly. We...

...1.) First-year students have many important experiences during their first semester. Describe a meaningful personal experience from your college career. What did you gain from this experience? How could what you have learned be useful to first-year students? I reluctantly chose to take a Theater course as part of fulfilling AXLE. I expected it to be pretty awful, as I had no interest whatsoever in learning about acting, stage design, reading plays, etc. Fortunately my expectations were wrong. The class was a blast for the most part. I met some great people, opened myself up (had to act a piece in front of people), and became (I guess you could say) more cultured. Heck, I even got to write my own play and have it performed on stage. It was great experience in which I learned to have an open mind about things. I feel I’m a better person because of this experience, as I now try my best to prevent myself from forming an opinion on something I have yet to try. I’m glad I learned this lesson when I did, because I have found myself trying more things that I normally would have never thought to try before coming to Vanderbilt. In my view, the lesson that I learned is a valuable one – one that all first-year students might find useful. As a VUceptor I would make sure to convey this experience to all of my first-years, and let them know how beneficial it was to me in terms of my personal growth at Vanderbilt. 2.) VUceptors must balance many responsibilities regarding VUceptees, Faculty...

...love in my life and how it has been influences as it evolves throughout my life. My life is comprised of a series of events that have allowed me to experience love in its purest form; however, there are aspects of love that still continue to perplex me. The Evolution of Love Our lives are compiled of a series of events that shape who we are and how we experience the world. Love is one of the rawest emotions that we experience throughout our lives. But how did we learn to love, is this yearning for tender affection a learned or acquired need or might it be as necessary and drink and nourishment? My experiences have molded how I portray love. Although the way that I experience love is constantly evolving, there have been pivotal turning points that have influenced the way that I experience love. Love nourishes and fuels our hearts. From the day that I took my first breath I yearned for the love of my parents. Although I may not recall at this point in life, as an infant my desire for love was present. Parents are our first teachers of the concepts of love. I have been blessed with a very loving and caring mother. She has shared with me that as an infant I insisted on being held. I can infer that this need for love has been present since my first breathe. The love of my mother has always been present in my life. She has loved me unconditionally since the first day she laid eyes on me. She has taken care of me physically, emotionally, and spiritually. She is my lending earing...

...person's childhood. However, they may also be developed during an adult age through personal experiences. My primary values include integrity, respect for other people's values regardless of their age. I also believe in handwork besides being a God fearing. I credit the parenting advice and counsel that mum and dad gave me as the source of my primary values. Religious teachings have also shaped my primary values. Moreover, my teachers and friends have also helped shape my primary values. Part 2 The first ethical issue at hand is hiring the right person for the position of our company's marketing manager because my partner and I have different opinions on the best candidate for the job. The candidates in our disposal have different backgrounds academically and socially which are beneficial for our company. However, one is better positioned for this post because she has the relevant experience. The second candidate is also suited for this position because she is attracting monetary gift, which could be essential in promoting the growth and stability of our company. The problem of this scenario is hiring the best candidate for this position because the two candidates have various competencies that deem them right for the position in our company. The second problem is that the second applicant is religiously affiliated to the same faith as my partner's grandparents. Consequently, my partner's grandparents have pledged a gift of a large sum of money significant enough to form...

...Just write about why you are applying to TFA. Why do you want to spend two years teaching low-income students in urban or rural communities? What life experiences have led you to apply? Teach for America Essay help request Sorry for the long post! Okay, so I have rough drafts of both my essays for teach for America done! I have to revise them like tonight because the application is due Friday. But if you have a moment, look them over and let my know what you think. Ideas on how to trim them down to five hundred words would be very helpful. the first is a letter of intent, the second an essay about my greatest accomplishment in the past four years. ESSAY #1 I hope to join Teach for America for what seems like a simple reason: I want to teach. Specifically, I want to teach middle school social studies or history. What thrills me about teaching is the constant challenge of finding better ways to motivate students and make learning relevant to their lives. I want to teach middle school because it is a challenging age. Middle school students are trying to figure out their roles in the world and are facing many pressures from peers, society, and their parents to conform in different ways. I want to be a supportive mentor for children at that difficult point in their lives. I want middle school to be a pleasant experience instead of the bad memory it is for many people. This is much the same thing that motivates me to teach history: I hated history classes when I was in middle...
