My Greatest Accomplishment Analysis

My first accomplishment happened the summer after the seventh grade when I decided to eat healthy and start running. When I was younger my father and sister went to the gym consistently and brought me along, but I was too young to work out so I was put in the daycare. I always had an interest in health and fitness but was always too young to act on it. My first change in a healthy lifestyle was when I was in the fifth grade I decided to eliminate soda out of my diet. I went on to middle school and decided to sign up for track, and that was when I became infatuated with running. Over the summer going into eighth grade I lost thirty pounds from running and was proud of myself, but was not satisfied with my appearance. I have always struggled with confidence, all …show more content…
There were a couple of years where I had a touch of an eating disorder but it was never so extensive to be harmful. Throughout the past years I have been able to keep the weight off and have gained a healthy amount of weight. I have grown to have confidence in myself and I believe that is my biggest accomplishment. If i never went through all of the years without confidence and making the decision to have a healthy lifestyle, then I would not be where I am now; the healthiest and happiest I have ever been. This accomplishment has taught me how to look at life as fantastic and not get down on myself like I have in the past, and when I feel myself getting back to that place I can get myself out of it. I have learned how to be fit and that I am a driven person and can set a goal and achieve it. This experience has taught me how to work hard and never give up until the job is finished. My accomplishment of losing weight and keeping it off has proven to my family that I am a hard worker. They always expect the best from me so it encourages me to live up to their expectations, which makes me a better

Beastie Boys

...hip hop in today's society. The Beastie Boys are much more than a boy band of Jewish rappers. They managed to blend punk and hip hop in an incredibly significant and influential way. These political activists, punk/hip-hop, bad boys have been around for almost three decades. They are notorious for introducing hip-hop to a mass new audience. The Beastie Boy’s debut album, Licensed to Ill (1986), was an ingenious blend of hip-hop and hard rock; it was also hip-hop's first number one album. Their renowned single, (You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party), immediately became the party anthem of the 1980’s for the teenage generation. In the 1990s, the boys combined their hardcore punk sound with funk and brought us smash hits like Sabotage and my personal favorite, Intergalactic. The Beastie Boys were continuously experimenting with sounds and always trying to discover a new name or sound that they could give to hip-hop. They were also easily the most politically active group of their generation. Their album, Hot Sauce Committee, is an awesome, funky and fun mix of ground-breaking sounds and catchy beats that will have you nodding your head or moving your feet no matter where you are listening to it. Personally, I love to work out to a few...

Dr. Kaoru Ishikawa

...BSOP326 – Total Quality Management BSOP326 – Total Quality Management Dr. Kaoru Ishikawa Dr. Kaoru Ishikawa TABLE OF CONTENTS: Cover Page 1 Table of Contents 2 Introduction 3 Background 3 Significant Accomplishments 4 Conclusion 4 References 5 There is so much to be learned by studying how Ishikawa managed to accomplish so much during a single lifetime. In my observation, he did so by applying his natural gifts in an exemplary way. He was dedicated to serving society rather than serving himself. His manner was modest, and this elicited the cooperation of others. He followed his own teachings by securing facts and subjecting them to rigorous analysis. He was completely sincere, and as a result was trusted completely. Joseph M. Juran, 1989 Introduction Over the last 50 years, Japan has developed and implemented its own take on quality control and standardization. Dr. Kaoru Ishikawa, engineer and economist, was one of the greatest contributors to these means, and his name has become an authority in quality control. Ishikawa’s work revolutionized perceptions and approaches to product quality and aided thousands of companies, including IBM, in providing quality products at lower costs. Kaoru Ishikawa was inspired by the lack of uniquely Japanese approaches to quality control and sought to standardize the process. Ishikawa believed that the old method quality statistics could benefit from...

Schaefer Center Fellowship Essay

...Schaefer Center Fellowship Essay My earliest memories began with sitting in Grandfathers bakery, and as a small child I would sit in my stroller eagerly awaiting streams of buttercream. As my Grandfather would pipe and squirt the sweet treat into my mouth. This simple act had profound effects, because as I grew up it was my dream to work as a chef. Other children had dreams of becoming doctors or lawyers, however I have always found a great peace within the chaos of a working kitchen. I had an opportunity to research my family and there is a history of cooks and bakers within my family tree. As I look back at my work history, just about every job I held involved food is some form or fashion. My varied and diverse career is dotted with positions working in some aspect of food, state agencies, grocery stores, deli’s, cafes, restaurants, catering, and even professional sport stadiums feeding thousands of fans. I consider myself as a “late bloomer,” academically as I never really enjoyed school. It was not until I enrolled into culinary school that I excelled in my studies. After finishing school I spent several years working at both Camden Yards and M & T Bank stadiums,...

Time Management

...life (Hafner, 2010). Throughout my career, I have always believed that next to personnel, time is the most precious resource. While I consider myself a mostly organized non-procrastinator who tends to prioritize tasks, I know that I am not unlike most managers and leaders who struggle with time management. Therefore, it came as little surprise to me that upon receiving feedback from the beginning of the semester class survey that the results revealed my lowest ratings were in the area of time management. My challenges with time management were once again exposed as a result of the Use-of-Time Diary assignment. Although the assignment only tracked three full business days (Jan 23-25) for a total of 72 hours, it indicated that my time was not used productively. This was further underscored by a general feeling of a lack of accomplishment at the end of each work day. In order to achieve greater granularity of the issues surrounding my time management struggle, I decided to extend my use of the time diary assignment for two additional work weeks (Jan 28 – Feb 8). At the end of the two week period, I analyzed the time diary in order to identify those areas that presented the greatest challenges in terms of time management. An analysis of the diary easily indicated that meetings overwhelmingly absorbed most of my time. The diary established that on average nearly 40% of my work days were spent in meetings of which over 80% required my attendance. Furthermore, using...

Leader

...MY LEADERSHIP STYLE "Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you Want done because he wants to do it.” - Dwight D. Eisenhower Eisenhower’s definition of leadership is veraciously on the mark. As educators, we work diligently to engage and motivate students so they want to: learn, read, think critically, create, collaborate, and ultimately become lifelong learners and leaders. This is no easy feat. Yet when a child begs for more reading time, dives enthusiastically into a research project, or makes a cross curriculum connection that genuinely excites them, I guarantee a teacher is smiling! Similarly, effective educational administrators purposefully and deliberately seek to create a climate and culture that promotes and perpetuates ongoing learning. My leadership style is Transactional leadership. Transactional Leadership, also known as managerial leadership, focuses on the role of supervision, organization, and group performance; transactional leadership is a style of leadership in which the leader promotes compliance of his/her followers through both rewards and punishments. This type of leader identifies the needs of their followers and gives rewards to satisfy those needs in exchange of certain level of performance. Transactional leaders focus on increasing the efficiency of established routines and procedures. They are more concerned with following existing rules than with making changes to the organization. A transactional leader establishes...

Walter Long Case Analysis

...Walter Long Case Analysis Walter Long is an effective leader and his leadership made a positive impact on his organization. He served as a motivator, inspiring improvement amongst his employees. The recommendations outlined in PEP will surely have a negative effect on employee morale and will begin to minimize Long’s accomplishments. In an effort to start the LDTC and maintain high NTAR metrics, it is my recommendation to reject PEP and created a new proposal. This new proposal should accomplish the following: 1. Eliminate fixed-station assignments 2. Combine testing with operation 3. Limit Singer’s role so that he cannot affect production Prior to Walter Long joining the team, NTAR’s employees were not reliable. The report describes them as “agitators and troublemakers”. Spending was out of control, and to make matters worse, production was unbelievably low. In a short span of 24 months, Long took a failing team and increased fiscal productivity per hour of work by 53%. He took a team of “agitators and troublemakers” and increased labor efficiency by 11%. This group was able to produce $457,000 in profits. Long was able to increase profits because he valued his employees. The best decision that Long made was to match job functions with a worker’s skill set. This enabled workers to function in an environment, which suited them best. Each worker was able to utilize their skill set across different functions. They were empowered to complete job functions from production...

They were: 1) Financial, 2) Re-organizing the whole setup 3) Achievement plans for goal attainment After analyzing the various dimensions of the above mentioned problems Jim suggested/implemented some major ideas for growth. One of the ideas was to introduce a new Project called “The Network Print Manager”. Jim and his management team went through various R&D research studies and finally decided to launch this with the help of Novell networking Value added resellers in the market. Hence, indirectly...

Ethics

...Ethical Analysis 1 Military Ethics and Values No Name Class Instructor May 7, 2015 Ethical Analysis 2 We have learned in a capitalistic market the measurement of success is the maximization of the shareholders wealth and maximized profit. Personal gains and potential wealth are what drives the economy and therefore affects more than just the corporation themselves. Many regulatory guidance’s have been issued in an attempt to better protect competitors and also consistently stimulate the economy. Without these regulations the competition levels between companies would be so stiff that it could possibly entice the market to gradually move away from the capitalistic market that we enjoy today. Although Thomas W. Dunfee states, "Since the goal of the public corporation is to maximize shareholder wealth, management should take any action necessary to achieve this goal so long as no law is violated", is very true for many corporations this line of thinking does not apply to the United States Military. The Armed Forces have long been regarded by some as the largest organization in the United States. The goal of this organization is not profit or personal gain, rather to insure national security and undisputable freedom. Being of a nation founded on principles that promote both infinite dignity and self-worth, military personnel must always stand ready to carry out these principles. Major corporations expect the maximizing of profit...
