The most extreme think that I have done was to use product in my hair to make it look more straight and curly. I did not like how tight and course my hair was and as a black person I was always told that my type of hair was not attractive. I was also envious of people who had a mixture of soft wavy and curly hair. For example, I always wanted to have hair similar to that of football player Russell Wilson, who plays for the Seattle Seahawks. I was not ashamed of my color or my ethnicity, but after being told that my type of hair was not ideal I began to hate it and tried to change the appearance. This would be very similar to women using skin lightening cream in Senegal because they were told and saw that lighter skin was preferred by many

Summary Of Hair Still Matters By Ingrid Banks

...Hair is a topic that is not often discussed, because many think that it is simply that- hair. The reality is that hair has underlying as well as blatant stereotypes attached to it. In the article “Hair Still Matters”, the author Ingrid Banks discusses the issue of hair from the perspective of black women. Banks looks at the issue from many different angles, including race, sexuality, and gender. Hair as a symbol of femininity is discussed and then connected back to the idea of hair length as an indicator of sexual orientation. Perhaps the most important part of the article is Banks’ quoting answers from her interviews with black women about hair and femininity (Banks, 2004). The discussions she had were relevant and came from real life sources, which drove home the idea that hair and femininity are related. One sentence from the work gives a good summary of the thesis: “… the argument here presents hair as a cultural tool that shapes black women’s ideas about race, gender, sexuality and images of beauty and power.” (Banks, 2004, 144). The experiences of the interviewed women are used in an attempt to completely...

Business Research Ethics

...Business Research Ethics Kwantessa Chambers RES/351 August 11, 2014 Barry Adkins Business Research Ethics My ideal occupation is to become a professional stylist and open my own beauty salon. It was only fitting to find a research project that deals with hair studies. I stumbled upon an article where research was conducted on hair cosmetics. A 'healthy' head of hair is described as hair that has luster, is smooth, long and silky, bouncy, with good volume, and with no evidence of balding. You must be aware of the different textures of hair, which texture you have and what products you can use to keep it healthy. In this paper, I will summarize this article and show the correlation between hair cosmetics and ethical behavior. The hair care industry is a major factor in today’s society and is constantly changing. The focus has dramatically veered from merely cleaning to repair, increasing the tensile strength, reducing oxidative damage, and stimulating growth. Many people do not understand the fascination a woman or a man for that matter has with their hair. Newer shorter procedures to make hair look naturally more lustrous, smooth, and manageable have evolved. In this article, the author attempts to fill the lacunae in our knowledge of hair cosmetics and esthetic procedures relevant in today's rapidly changing beauty-enhancing industry (Madnani, Khan, 2013). In this research project, the unethical research practice to be avoided is the experimentation of chemicals on...

Business Plan

...income, I have thought about starting my own business. From my experience a small business is started from a person’s hobbies or it involves the person’s interests. Today’s marking techniques makes it easier for an entrepreneur to buy and sell their products and services worldwide. Having an easier way to buy and sell your products gives the entrepreneur a chance to perfect their craft more. Spending less time trying to sell a product gives an entrepreneur or a small business owner to work on a new product. In this paper I will discuss the details about the small business I would like to open one day soon. We will discuss my business plan in detail, including the financial report, and how to implement this plan to start my own business. Discussing the reasons why as entrepreneur, I would choose to use GAAP over IFRS, are also included in this paper. A sample chart of my account statement for my business is included as well. BUSINESS PLAN Many people in America are creative, ambitious, and industrious; always looking for other ways to make income. Because I am just like most Americans I decided to start my own hair dresser type of business. From my experience a business is started from a person’s hobbies or it involves the person’s interest. Biology Receptors

...After months of research and experiments, I have concluded my discovery of space worm touch receptors is definite. Regardless of the type, sensory receptors are influenced by physical actions and various stimulus. My research and experiments show that space worm touch receptors are no different. Stimulus is a change discernible by the body (Sherwood 2004) or in my case, a space worm. Certain receptors like touch receptors respond to stimulus weakly or strongly when involved with a different stimulus (Sherwood 2004). This perfectly related to my experiment because the space worm touch receptors respond differently to various stimulus. All of this discussion about stimulus to touch receptors would not happen without mechanoreceptors. Mechanoreceptors are heavily present in the touch receptor system and are influenced by physical actions like distortions, bending, and probing. Through various actions of stimulation, I was able to see what types of mechanoreceptors the space worm touch receptors contained. Rather than being located in a specialized location, the space worm touch receptors are located throughout the whole space worm. As a consequence, different areas of the spaces worm touch receptors reacted and traduced different electrical signals. This difference of electrical signals ultimately revealed the different mechanoreceptors present in the space worm touch receptors. After discovering space worm touch receptors, I will conduct a specific test to identify...

Hermenutical Paper

...Hermeneutical paper Hermeneutical Paper ICST 300 The first passage of 1 Peter 2:18 refers to a command which tells slaves that they must obey the bidding of their masters under any circumstances. The passage further explains its unconditional approach by stating that the type of person that the master of the slaves is is of no consequence, whether he is a good and kind man or a very cruel person, makes no difference. This particular passage would fall under the Hermeneutical guideline of a non-moral or non-theological situation, command, or principle which pertains to an individual’s specific circumstance that has been revoked or is no longer applicable to people in my culture. This is the compatible guideline with this passage due to the fact that slavery has been abolished and found to be illegal and indecent in the United States for quite some time. The Civil war brought about the turning point in which the government made the ownership of slaves illegal. Because slavery is now illegal, there is no principle base on which to establish a worthy context for that particular passage to relate to the American culture of today. The only other take on this passage is to research the original words used and in doing so one can see that in some versions the translation of slaves is actually commoners, and the translation of masters is actually to head of house. If this were the case, Peter was extending word to the people that were to deal with the hardships placed...

...just doing their hair they want those who are knowledgeable of their particular hair needs and type. There are many ways to find a stylist or a creditable salon but I will list only three: research, word of mouth and walk-in. Yeadon Lee, T wrote a paper on how having the right dynamic and people in place managing the salon is a great way of starting to bring in customers. You can start by searching on the internet There are also certain websites you can look up that will help you. If you are an amateur to actually researching for a salon my advice is to start with those websites that tell the business owner how to bring in the customer. This can be a good help to you during your search. You will be able to read the techniques they are giving them to have and make a chart and compare to see if they are actually following their advice. Make sure if there is a website for the salon you go on there and check their ratings and customer comments. This is a great way to know what type of enviroment there is without stepping a foot in the door. Making phone calls is another way of researching check their professionalism just through the phone see if that draws you in. Calling also gives you the opportunity of seeing if the stylist has a portfolio online or in hand that you can view to see their workmanship. By calling you can also find out if you have the possibility of having a licensed cosmetologist or a apprentice doing your hair. Friends are another great research tool you can find...

The Gift of the Magi Argument Paper

...The Gift of the Magi Argumentative Research Paper: Did Jim and Della perform an act of Selfless Love? Abstract The story was written by O’Henry in 1906. The story was centered around a seemingly poor couple who did not have enough money to buy each other the gifts that their significant other deserved. The story took place during Christmas. The Gift of the Magi is like a classic wisdom story in the bible. O’Henrys choice of title depicts symbolism between the three magi that brought gold, frankincense, and mur, to the baby Jesus and the gifts that Jim and Della had given to each other which mainly consisted of selfless love, Della’s hair and Jims pocket watch. This itself ties into the theme of his story. These gifts all entail the act of giving from the heart. The purpose of this research paper is to outline the key factors that support the claim that Jim and Della performed an act of selfless love. Now, after looking at that it is evident that Jim and Della performed the most beautiful act of love for each other. What makes it the most beautiful? The fact that they were selfless in giving up their most valuable possessions in order to get something for the other. There is a famous and well known saying, “Love means putting the other before oneself”. This is the epitome of Selfless love, and clearly of Jim and Della’s love. Towards the end of the text O.Henry said, “Of all who give gifts these two were the wisest.” This paper will serve to back this statement up. ...

Personal Ethics Development Paper

...Ethics Development Paper Ethics Development Paper At an early age, many are taught the difference from right and wrong and that sharing is caring. If you had a toy that the others wanted to play with rather than telling them no normally the elder would walk over to you and say to share the activity or game that you are playing or let others join in and play with you. I believe this is where many people are first taught the developmental aspects of ethics. Growing up as a only child this was something that I can still remember as if it was yesterday; my mom walking over to me and saying, “ Tommy share your toys don’t be so stingy.” Along with these conversations she wove in lessons of right and wrong and the rewards and consequences that came along with. Those were defining moments for me and when looking back now and asked to write and focus on the developmental aspect of ethics; that was the beginning of learning ethics at a young age. Ethics are taught by parents, teachers, or authority figures through focused lessons, societal norms or every day interactions. Whether it is from learning this at school from your kindergarten teacher, to having it reinforced in your place of worship and then drilled into you by your parents these lessons are all around us. These lessons continue to be reinforced and illustrated throughout our lives and help to create a norm in our society that are illustrated through laws, policies at work or actions we all practice on a daily basis...

What an Employer Expects

...“The highest number of employed hairdressers, hair stylists, and cosmetologist of any state is Texas with 45,100” (Toni & Guy, 2014.) Growing up I always wanted to be a hairstylist for a huge company and one day run my own salon. The most important qualities an employer expects from a college graduate include proficiency, communication, and work ethic. Proficiency: The state of being proficient; skill; expertness. The first skill employers look for in a college graduate is technical knowledge in the field I want to peruse. Meaning I have to know the book work and the research behind it. The technical knowledge I have is that I went to cosmetology school for two years and did book work every other day. My future salon I wanted in high school was Toni and Guy. I would also have tests once a week to make sure I knew the material. The next skill employers look for in college graduates is technical application which is the hands on work I know how to do in my field. The technical application I have in my field is that I had to cut hair on a mannequins the days I was not doing book work. On Thursdays I would have women and men from retirement homes come in, do their hair, manicure, pedicure, or a facial. I would get graded for every mannequin and client I worked on that week. After 2 years of book work and clients I took my state board exam, then I found a salon that was hiring and applied. I now work for a nationwide known company Supercuts! Another skill employers look for...
