My Life

This week has definitely been one to remember. I have been living the fat kid’s dream these past four days. Every morning since Monday, all I’ve had to do was work out and come to my dorms and do nothing. This has truly been the definition of living. I have not done anything but sleep this entire week. Something I haven’t quite enjoyed though is the whole campus being closed down. I have not had anywhere to go and eat. That has sucked. I’ve been eating these T.V dinners that have absolutely no taste to them what so ever. Then on top of that the store that’s in my dorms nearly ran out of everything the first day so we have really been in poverty, but I mean who cares? We haven’t had to go to school so I highly doubt anyone is complaining about being a little hungry. Then top of that our basketball team beat Alabama. Want to talk about putting the icing on the cake; I don’t think I could be any happier than I was after that game. Well, maybe one thing could have made me happier, no school tomorrow either! All in all, this has been a successful week. I have been able to get a little stronger in the weight room, and then go lie on my butt all day and rest my legs. Can you say the American Dream? Though, as fun as this week has been, it must come to a halt. Tomorrow, the grind starts once again and if I must say myself, I do not look forward to it.

My Life to Save

...Prologue I leaned over the toilet for the fourth time this morning spilling whatever was left in my stomach. I dry heaved for the next five minutes trying to rid whatever was giving me this ill feeling. Once I finished I wiped the sweat off my forehead and laid back against my cold tub. It felt good against my warm skin. I removed my sweat drenched shirt and just laid against the tile floor. I have never experience such pain and nausea in my life. I didn’t want to think about the many possibilities that could be wrong with me. "Ki you alright?" asked my eight year old brother behind my bathroom door. "Yes boo just go get me a bottle of water." I could hear him scurrying off down the stairs to the kitchen. I tried my best to stand up but I just felt too weak. All of a sudden my body grew very tired and I couldn’t get my body to move. I heard my door open and a scream. "Mom, Dad hurry!" yelled my brother Jasone. I didn’t understand why he was screaming until I followed his horrified eyes down to my floor and there was blood everywhere. I slowly reached up to touch my nose and I felt the blood all over my hands and I knew something was definitely wrong. My brother rushed over to me and held my head in his lap as he cried. I tried to reach up and touch him but it all hurt too much. "Lord please I’m not ready to die." I said to myself. "Mom!!" my brother cried out again. "Jasone what is you doing in your sister room and screaming on-" she couldn’t continue her sentence as she...

Failure In My Life

...I have failed many times, at many things, at many different points of time in my life. The lesson that I have learnt from these failures has been just one.......TRY AGAIN & TRY HARDER. Not to put it in a clichéd manner but the above mentioned lesson has pushed me closer to my goals and has made me deliver the results when it was necessary for me to do so. For instance my application for TEDx license was rejected TWICE by TED yet I applied again for the 3rd time and got the license and got the event hosted when it was supposed to be hosted. But the biggest challenge in my life came when in a football game I tore the ligaments of my right leg. The doctors could not identify the problem and with time it got aggravated to an extent when finally...

My Approach to Life

...What is Your Approach to Life? By DeAnn Adler After many years of living, I still don’t have life completely figured out and I’m assuming I never will, but age has given me some wisdom and I have hopefully learned a few things in all that time. I have not one philosophy of life, but many, and all of them put together make me the person I am today. During my senior year in high school over thirty-two years ago, the teacher in my civics class asked what we students thought was the secret to a happy life. A blond, curly headed boy in the class answered that he thought “everything in moderation” was the key to a successful, happy life. I’ve never forgotten those words, even after all this time, and they’ve become a part of who I am and how I’ve lived my life. In ancient Greece, the temple of Apollo at Delphi bore the inscription Meden Agan - 'Nothing in excess'. 1 The ancient Greeks knew what my high school classmate had—that moderation makes life run more smoothly. Moderation in this day and age is not always hip though. What are cool are extremes, from extreme sports to extreme home makeovers. But it seems that for a lot of people, straying from the path of moderation causes nothing but heartache, from the drinker who loses everything to the bottle, to the gambler who loses his life’s savings. The more extreme our wants, the more we must accumulate to make ourselves happy. But I also think moderation can make for an extremely boring life. It’s a life played safely and without...

My Philosophy of Life

...Nowadays, in the XXIst century people are living life of the constant pursuit for money, successful career, what is making impression that only those values are important. Than they have to stop for a while and contemplate about their life goals, their life philosophy. This essay will present my philosophy of life. First of all, the most important thing for me is my family. According to my rules, they are always on the first place, and can count on me, just the same like I can count on them. I was raised by my parents to be a good man who tries to be always kind and helpful for the other people and live in harmony with commandments of my religion. The next thing about my philosophy of life is a proper attitude what means that I have a lot of faith in myself and I am taking challenges with believing in final success. Optimism is very important in man’s life and we cannot forget about it, because it helps in bearing up with difficulties. Having friends is also important; however, the point is to choose wisely and surround yourself with well-wishing and loyal people which won’t stab you in the back when you will need help. My philosophy of life tells that I always have to be myself and listen to my heart as much as I listen to my mind and to play along with the voice of my conscience. I believe, that man should develop himself, every time try to experience something new and always use an opportunity to increase his knowledge in order to be conscious and intelligent. Summing up...

Someone Who Influenced My Life

...Why would an author of a book influence me so much? It is because Daniel Quinn has written "My Ishmael" in such a beautiful way that what he's thinking comes across to you like as though you're having a conversation in person with him. He uses a talking Gorilla as a means to convey his points of view on how the world is in a degenerative mode and though I felt this strange at first, it became clear later as to why he used a Gorilla in the first place. The Gorilla here represents nature's voice and is a reminder that we need to look for ways to communicate with nature, first hand. This was the first eye opening aspect from the author. The second was the author's penchant for coming up with brilliant stories to derive and communicate his point to the reader. Instead of driving in his philosophies by pure theory would have been boring and heavy, but the author uses wonderful and thought provoking stories to do the same, so effectively. The first was the simple concept of food kept under lock and key. This is a practice that comes so naturally to us, but he brings out why this is a very unnatural way of things. For early man, what grew in the world belonged to everyone in the society, and to put it under lock and key is to basically create a working class who will do tasks, useful or useless, in order to earn their bread. Ishmael's (the name of the gorilla) teachings turn toward the subject of formal education, which he argues is merely a way to keep children out of the work...

Science in My Daily Life

...Science in my daily life As the Earth completes yet another turn around it axis, the sunlight pours into my bedroom indicating it is time to wake up. In case I miss the hint, my alarm clock set, as usual, for seven o’clock will do the trick. I get up and enter the bathroom, pleasantly warm thanks to the radiator fed with hot water through a series of pipes connected to a central heating boiler. I remain a couple of extra minutes under the shower enjoying the warm water – courtesy again of my boiler -, and finally I am ready to get dressed, opting for a suit cut out of one of these new fabrics that are comfortable, warm and light all at the same time. In the kitchen, I prepare breakfast for four. I turn on the electric kettle to boil water for tea, while a jar of milk heats in the microwave. I turn on the gas oven to warm up the brioche I baked yesterday. It smells delicious and it looks even better, golden and spongy due to the work of yeast. And, while the rest of the family comes down to have breakfast, I turn on the radio to listen to the latest news around the Globe. I have been awaken for just some twenty minutes and science is all around me: the movement of planets, the electricity, the water treatment, the transformation and piping of the gas we use to cook and heat out homes, the chemistry behind new fabrics, the radio waves or the power of the small fungi we use for our pastries. Whatever I do, whatever I see, science is at the heart of everything. And the day...

Emersion of tears started to fog my eyesight but I still continued to walk. Until suddenly, tickling arms wrapped around me from behind. Another sense of déjà vu came crawling in my heart. I knew from that moment that it was him. Apparently, I was on the edge of tears but I still needed his explanation, his clarification, so I lifted my head up to prevent tears from falling and faced him without any hint of fear. “What are you?” I asked in an evident...
