...ten years ago I was working so much I forgot about my health, family and friends. Somewhere along the road of shooting to become a successful business owner I lost track of what was most important. My dream somehow turned into a reality of being stressed out, and unhappy. It finally hit me...... Work had become my life's purpose. Like so many other entrepreneurs, I started my business for a chance at freedom and opportunity to be the master of my own destiny. I had visions of success and money, and with that I believed I could one day finally be happy. But the reality was I was not happy. I was miserable. I won't bare you with business concepts, but there is one important concept I learned that changed my life and I want to share it with you. All great companies have four things: purpose, vision, mission and care values. I asked myself, why can't I apply these ideas to my life? So I did, and here's how you can apply it to. Your life's purpose is the reason why you exist. It's the reason for being. Let me ask you again, because it's in my humble opinion, the most important question you could ever ask yourself – why do you exist? In the past, if you asked me what my life's purpose was – I would have told you it was to make lots of money. Believe me, there's nothing wrong with making money, but for myself, I finally realized it was not the reason why I exist. It was only an enabler at best. Finding your life's purpose is very much about yourself. Life with a purpose...

The Medicine Wheel

...direction in one’s life (Roberts, Harper, Bull, & Heideman-Provost, 1998). “The Medicine Wheel symbolizes the interconnection of all life, the various cycles of nature, and how life represents a circular journey” (Traditional Aboriginal Medicine, 2009). The Medicine Wheel as a visual symbol is an effective tool for personal development (Native American Medicine Wheel, 2011). Based on my learning from the class discussions and presentations, I found this project very interesting and inspiring. I found it to be an important guide towards attaining success. In this paper is my vision of what a medicine wheel would be like and how I connect the medicine wheel ideas to my outlook, and to realizing my goals in life. Medicine Wheel Interpretations This Medicine Wheel represents my own life’s journey to attain my personal and career goals. I placed myself in the middle of the wheel, surrounded by the four directions, each direction containing the different stages of life, personal capabilities and strengths, values and principles, symbolism, and my spiritual beliefs that will guide me through the...

...potential careers. With a finger on the pulse of what I want my legacy to be, I decided the potential careers that could suit me would be that of a clinical psychologist, a ghost writer, and an English teacher. Each of these jobs would allow me to place my thumbprint on the world in a way that would leave the people who encounter me forever changed in a positive way. When factoring what would comprise the weight criteria I decided that distance, pay, life’s work, enjoyment, and ability would all be items that would be the be the deciding factors as to which career would suit me best. I anticipated that the scores would be either vastly different or all pooled to one side. The oddity here was that the scores seemingly balanced out. The level of enjoyment and potential for life’s work were all around the same percentage wise for each career. However, the actual rating caused the numbers to look vastly different. For example, enjoyment for work as a ghost writer was high 95, while work as an English teacher was rated at simply a 75. According to www. freelance.com, “A ghost writer is hired for his or her quality of work, and not necessarily for his or her "name" as a book writer.” This would allow for a high enjoyment rate. No pressure to be blocked into one genre of writing. (Cole, 2014) According to http://platorubric.stanford.edu/ , protocols required for an English teacher are rigid and fixed. This would consistently stifle my creativity. (Protocols for Language Art Teaching Observatoins...

Life Experiences

...rush through it, but the ones who cherish every moment and live every minute as it was their last, get the richest experience life has to offer. Life is a mystery, and you never know what is going to be handed to you. Just like when Tom Hanks said, "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get". To get life’s richer experiences, take risks, have fun, and take on critical decisions instead of being afraid of them. In my life, there have been several people who have made the most impact in my life, and my number one fan, although our relationship has been up and down is my mother. My mother has never pushed me aside, and has always kept me under her angelic wings like the precious son I am to her. I have disappointed her time after time, but she has never given up on me. Although there have been times where she said she’s one incident shy, but I know my mother’s strength, and she’ll never give up on me because she wants me to succeed. Another fan of mine that I have been able to learn from in my lifetime is my dad, which is. He has taught me one of life’s most valuable lessons, and that’s to take a deep breath and bite my tongue. I have always had a temper as a young kid and now that I am older, it becomes exerting in different ways, but it still exists. With his help, there has...

Synthesis

...Module 5: Final Synthesis “Fieldwork” Paper Upon reading Arloski’s text and reviewing his tools for exploration, I have designed a Life’s Basic tool for exploring wellness that has a personal meaning to close family as well as friends and myself. Arloski’s tools for exploration number six, “The Welcome Packet”, inspired me. I wanted to create a tool that was not only powerful, thought-provoking, and intriguing, but a tool that held meaning to an individual that allowed them to find purpose and what one would need to do in order to feel accomplished in life. In the process of completing this tool, I began with my boyfriend’s life experience. Since he has been incarcerated and recently released from prison, I thought he would be a good candidate to help get some ideas with the design of my tool. During our initial conversation, I asked him what concepts he thought was essential to life’s basics. He described three things. The first concept was to understand how to dream and uncover what one really wants. The second was to understand how to get rid of self-sabotaging mental chatter and negative beliefs. Last, but not least, knowing how to make and keep commitments to oneself around ones body, career, money, and relationships. I found these concepts to be very intriguing and was really surprised at the response I received. While in prison, he explained that he had a lot of time to dream about what he really wanted out of life and what things he needed to do once he got out...

5 Years from Now

... ENGLISH Life’s one certainty is its pure uncertainty. As scripture reminds, “we do not know what will happen tomorrow”. Sadly the fulfillment of our dreams can sometimes turn into nightmares. This remind us not only of the uncertainty of life, but also of the need to align our desires with God’s Will. Experience us that if we allow presumption to our lives, the fulfillment of our own compulsive dreams may turn to dust and ashes. There is a legitimate desire, to be sure, but my mother thought on how to approach them. Instead of presuming that our plans an dreams will be fulfilled, we ought to say, “If the Lord will, we shall live and to this or that.” When we submit our plans our plan’s to God’s will, we can enjoy his peace in the midst of life’s uncertainty. In the next 5 years, it’s difficult to envision such an existence and future. All I know is , I will give my very best to achieve those dreams of mine, I don’t want to give a definite insight with regards to my future because only god knows what will happen tomorrow, the next day or in the near future. But one thing is for sure. I will strive and aim for my lofty ambitions and creativity. And no matter what my occupation is, or my status in life. Or what kind of family I have. I must keep work in perspective. And as long as I trust in God I will never be failed. “Do not live minimally. Live life to the maximum! Climb that mountain with confidence. That’s my quotation in...

Why a College Education Is Important to Me

...the path for your life? A college education is all of these choices and then some. My choice to gain an education is for the establishment of a professional, personal, and financial foundation. My success also depends on this decision. Success is measured differently for each individual, but for me it’s measured by the opportunities afforded through receiving an education. In today’s economy, knowledge is not something I decided to have; I found it as being something that is essential to gain. According to the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics, between 1980 and 2005 “young adults with at least a bachelor’s degree consistently had higher median earnings than those with less education” (Kirstina). Obtaining knowledge through a college education is of utmost importance to me. I will be the first in my family to graduate college with degree of knowledge. Knowledge is so vast that there is no exact definition to define it. The definition of knowledge for me, is acquiring information and skills to prepare me for life’s obstacles. One of life’s greatest obstacles that knowledge renders you for, is success in a profession or trade. “The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts net job growth of almost 3 million health care jobs in the decade ending in 2029, a 29 percent increase over other groups” (Katherine). In the health care industry lies my dream job. My dream job is to be a health care administrator with a PhD. Gaining a PhD in healthcare...

...teaching. You learn the basic concepts and formulas and forget them in the next semester. But the Humanities Honors program is four consecutive classes that enhance your knowledge and brain. It is not a regular average class that the professor does not know your name and does not even care about your learning. This complex program contains three compassionate professors that are kindhearted with their work and students. The knowledgeable professors contribute their time and dedication to teach their students of to care what is most in human of us. It was the beginning of my first semester in the Humanities Honors Program when the lecture on Socrates inspired me. It caught my attention when I read Socrates’ quote when he indicated that “the unexamined life is not worth living.” I examine my life by thinking about where I’ve been, how I got here, and where I’m going. There are so many questions going through my mind, but I don’t have all the answers. I believe that I have some sense of where I belong to the universe and have the context for understanding how all the elements fit together in my life. There are people that avoid leading an examined life. These people are ignorant and cannot look into the issues around us. I believe that we need to open our eyes and take the time to examine the world and our lives. When you set aside time to examine your life, you can explore new possibilities. Also, you get to set your goals, choose your destination, determine your path, decide how long...

Personal Narrative Analysis

...I don't end up in a trailer park one day. I don't want to be trailer park trash." His remark made my heart beat fast, partially because I was embarrassed that I live in a trailer park, but mostly because I was angry with the stereotype he held. In the seventh grade my parents filed for bankruptcy due to financial struggles. We moved to the trailer park in hopes of finding financial stability. It was a very difficult time for my parents and me, but we have grown stronger as a family because of it. My classmate's words were hurtful at first, but they have helped me to realize that no one can judge based upon where I live. My perseverance, accomplishments, and passions prove that I can make the most of my life, no matter where I live or what the circumstances are....

Motivators

...“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” * Michael Jordan Simple yet a well-uttered inspiring quote from a famous basketball player, Michael Jordan. Success. A seven letter word of somewhat bittersweet stories to contain. It is something that is more than just a goal in life. Success is your pay check because that is what makes you happy, and that is what makes you who you want to be. Now, I got to ask you something. What keeps you going? What forces you to push harder against all odds? What causes you to endure life’s challenges? Perhaps, we have different answers. Like the word “success” as a seven letter word, I got the same. Seven reasons as my motivators to respond with these questions. Accordingly, motivation is a driving state; it is also a behavior-arousal state within the individual. Motivation directs the behavior towards a goal. It is thus an internal external condition of the organism that forces him/her into action. I profoundly motivate myself to do things and that’s the starting point to achieve my goals. Behind the wheels are capacities I exhibit to perform beyond my limits, the strengths and weaknesses which enables me to work towards my target, and the uniqueness as an individual encrusts my inner pressure. Thus, self-motivation is a hidden from our consciousness –...

Positive Thinking

...over them. Keeping a chin up approach to life each day will provide the self-confidence needed to pursue goals and achieve them. Balancing life’s challenges such as becoming a teen parent is a difficult task, but if achieved creates long lasting positive results. A well-rounded approach to maintaining a positive attitude will always provide a constant form of overcoming life’s challenges. There are several different modal constructs such as the seven-element’s approach and the US Army approach (Harrington, 2012). Harrington (2012) suggests “Approaching life’s challenges in a positive, optimistic way by demonstrating self-control stamina and good character with your choices and actions” (p. 29). In other words, when faced with a challenge think of the glass half full instead of half empty. Always be optimistic in the thought process in order to keep the mind in a state of positivity. Keep emotions in check and think before speaking. It will produce a more positive outcome. There are many challenges to overcome when raising a child, but being a teenager with no job and trying to finish high school is even more difficult. My life was changed forever when my son was born in the summer of 2006. It was three days before the fourth of July and everyone was preparing to go on vacation while we were preparing to bring a new life into the world. ...integrating an understanding of the relationship of clients to life’s inevitable suffering, and postmodern therapeutic techniques such as “dis-solving” problematic behaviors through conversation. (Nichols, M., 2010, p.302) This narrative will explore how this synthesis can be achieved using collaborative family therapy techniques and traditional Buddhist teachings and philosophy, and will also compare and contrast traditional psychodynamic therapies with current trends in social work practice with children and families. My conception of the article “Suffering and the Relationship with the Problem in Postmodern Therapies: A Buddhist Re-Visioning” is multifaceted. The authors present several philosophies of life that are complicated and engrossing. For instance, the Buddhist premise that suffering in life is inevitable and unavoidable is both intriguing and controversial. This concept intrigues me because based upon my own experience I know that on occasion life is going to throw me some “curveballs.” The death of my mother last year and the twenty-seven years of alcoholism and drug addiction that I survived is proof that life has the power to surprise you at times. Some of the lessons that I was taught as a child didn’t adequately prepare me to deal with life’s inevitable suffering. In fact, many of the lessons that were given to me by various caregivers actually hindered my ability to “flow with” or let go of my most pressing problematic...

...in the midst of the obstacles and challenges in your life there is one entity that everyone must acquire first and that is will power. Along with will power come the elements needed to prosper such as time management, concentration, and having faith in God. A great Minister, Eric Butterworth once said, “Nothing stops the man who desires to achieve. Every obstacle is simply a course to develop his achievement muscle. It's a strengthening of his powers of accomplishment.” Eric Butterworth was an author and Minister; he wrote over 16 best-selling books and lectured in seminars. Because he was also a theologian and philosopher his works relates to my focus which is personal, professional and spiritual obstacles and challenges. Being a student in Palm Beach University has helped me clarify the elements needed to achieve success in the midst of life’s obstacles and challenges. It all simmers down to having the confidence and implementing the elements towards your life. Achieving success is possible when executing the elements of will power, time management, concentration, and having faith in God. These elements that are needed to succeed and should be set in place for yourself whether personal, professional, or for spiritual success and provides inspiration and impact lives by generating the feelings of motivation and a sense of confidence. Will power is defined as self control or self discipline, acquiring the ability to have the strength to accomplish the decisions...
