A good mentor is someone who is able to help you with your problems. They try their hardest to help you overcome the problem and come up with solutions to fix the problem. One examples of a good mentor Is when my dad went to prison my mom had to help me overcome the pain from losing him. She helped me for months as I tried to understand why my dad would do this to us. She held back her pain in front of me and made me think that she was being strong and brave. My mom told me that things happen in life for reasons that we will never understand, but there Is a plan for why they happen. My mom’s words really helped me get through one of the toughest times in my life. My mom is a mentor to me because she acted strong in front of me to help me through

My Mentor Research Paper

...To be a good mentor is a challenging task that few people can undertake. This influential role requires a person who can reflect upon his experience and utilize his skills to properly guide his mentees toward the right direction. Also, this position needs an individual who is experienced and can communicate ideas in unique, interesting ways. I believe that I can do these tasks and more. I am a strong candidate for the LEAP mentor position because of my prior mentorship experiences, unique college perspective, useful skills that I have gained throughout my education, and my commitment to helping others succeed. The main reason I want to become peer mentor is that I desire to continue impacting the lives of others. Throughout my life, I have served as a mentor in various organizations. During my middle and high school education, I was a member of a mentorship program that assisted underclassmen with their academic and social development. Furthermore, I was in other organizations in which I taught and mentored other peers. Currently, I am a Peer Academic Coach at Fayetteville State. In this position, I collaborate with current freshman and early college students every day to guarantee their future academic success. Through these experiences, I learned how to assist others to become better...

Institutionalizing Mentoring In Police Departments

...The progress on my research paper is a work in progress. As I write my research paper, I find that I am having a difficult time focusing and being able to put my thoughts on paper in a comprehendible way. Today, however, has been the most productive day for me as far as homework and writing, since the arrival of my daughter. Sleep deprivation is definitely taking a toll on my body and mind. Two interesting facts I have found so far on the benefits of mentoring comes from an article I found in Police Chief Magazine, Institutionalizing Mentoring in Police Departments, written by Harvey Sprafka. Sprafka discusses the difference between a Field Training Officer (FTO) and a mentor. Sprafka describes the roles as “distinct yet complementary”....

...STATEMENT Research And Analysis Project Meetings with your project mentor and presentation: Before starting my work, I laid a plan for better coordinated results. My first step toward planning was to comprehend the Research and Analysis Project guidelines, which I gathered from ACCA official website. After going through the topic list, I narrowed my choice of topics to three. Then I laid down a schedule for my meetings and discussions that were to take place with my mentor. I also studied some guidelines so that my meeting with my mentor would generate best results and would avoid any misunderstandings. Some of these guidelines were: * To conduct successful meetings you need to be focused * productive meeting need to be very specific and clearly defined * Prepare meeting agenda to use as a roadmap (Sound Business Practices, n.d)42 Before the first meeting, I had an idea of topics that I wanted to pursue and the meeting helped me in making the right choice. I presented my choices to my mentor, who helped me in selection of the right topic that is analyzing business and financial performance of an organization over a three year period. I selected the organization for my research and my mentor briefed me about the details that I needed to study about my chosen organization. During the first meeting I became aware of the research methodology that I could follow for better results and defined research’s aims and objectives. My mentor warned...

Mentor Interview Paper

...Wednesday at 12:00p.m., I interviewed with Dr. Thirumalai Kannan about becoming my research mentor and working in his lab. As a potential mentor, Dr. Kannan seems to be a better general mentor than a research mentor for me. He has a great personality and seems to really understand my concern. Within the hour of our meeting, he was extremely informative and let me know up front exactly would I should look for in a lab and how to go about assessing lab. He has several publications, one for instance: “ADP-Ribosylation of NLRP3 by Mycoplasma pneumoniae CARDS Toxin Regulates Inflammasome Activity”. This paper is based on the CARDs toxin that Dr. Kannan discovered after being told that he was wasting his time because it did not exist. This power...

Gemstone Reflection

...When deciding to attend the University of Maryland, the Gemstone Honors Program was an enticing attribute. It would allow me to be a part of a smaller group as soon as I started at UMD. I decided against the larger University Honors Program because I could get lost in such a large, unspecified program. With Gemstone, I immediately was involved on campus with a well-known, prestigious group. In addition to enjoying the specificity and closeness of Gemstone, I also was very excited for the research aspect. For my last three years of high school, I was a part of my schools Gifted and Talent Research Program.
