Crisp, clean, dark, exhilarating, no place on earth…Who has the opportunity to skate under the northern lights on an ice covered pond with moose nearby guarding the forests? The peaceful serenity is challenged by aggressive play, yet complemented, by cooperation and teamwork.
My most significant accomplishment: Senior year I was selected to play at a high level of hockey with the Aspen Junior Leafs. I quickly grasped the opportunity. It may mean a life’s dream, “D-1 hockey or who knows? I could go to the show.” That, alone, isn’t a significant accomplishment.
I always dreamed of playing high school hockey. I lived the dream until my freshman year. I suffered a broken back while playing hockey in Vancouver which subsequently required surgery.

Achieving Success In Malcolm Gladwell's 'Outliers'

...provided a chart containing information about one of Canada’s National Hockey teams players, and in this chart the players birthdates were shown to prominantly in the months of January, Febuary, and March. This is because in Canada the eligibility cutoff for age class hockey is January 1st . A child who is turning 10 on January 2nd , can play next to a child who will not be turning 10 untill the end of the year, and at that age there is an enourmous difference in physical maturity, giving the older child a better opportunity to be a faster , stronger , and more experienced hockey player....

The Game of Golf

...The Game of Golf When I started playing golf with my father at the age of seven years old, I never could have imagined how much this game has taught me about life, motivation, and myself. My senior year in high school I was playing as the number one and captain on the varsity golf team. That honor was bestowed on me, because I was supposedly the best man on the team. Which just happened to be true. It was an honor that I truly enjoyed because golf had been a hobby, sport, and passion I had worked extremely hard at for close to a decade. But playing first man also had its drawbacks. The one that I will speak of here is the style of speaking that I had to use while playing in a tournament. It was five o’clock at night on a crisp fall afternoon. A bitterly cool wind swept across the hilly landscape as the leaves blew into the air, out of the woods, and onto the multi-tiered green. I stood behind my ball to line up my ten-foot birdie putt in hopes of breaking my own personal high school record. I pick a line at the hole and step up to the putt with the confidence to make it. As the mallet of the putter swings back like a pendulum, the ball rolls and rolls right on line at the hole but then stops just inches short of a birdie. I walk up, slightly disappointed at the miss, and tap in my par putt to finish out the final match of the season. The game of golf is a game of inches, as even the slightest miscalculation or imperfection can lead to failure. Fast forward to the following...

Coach

...Americans Midget Major Central States Developmental Hockey League (CSDHL) team started the formation of the 2012-2013 hockey team. With a good core of returning players and several prospects, the June minicamp ended and based on the talent pool to pick from, the anticipation of a solid team was on the horizon. Then came the month of August, the final molding of this year’s team was complete and on paper this team looked to have a good chance at doing something special. Like in year’s past, a player’s meeting was conducted between the coaching staff and the players. The players were informed of the expectations the coaches demanded from them and for them as a team to set their goal (s). During the meeting we asked the players for only a few things: 1) Give us your all when we are on the ice 2) Conduct yourselves like mature, responsible young adults 3) Have fun. The players were told this is your season, you set your goals and the coaching staff will set their own goals. When it was all said and done each group had one goal. As coaches the goal is to develop these young men into better hockey players and adults and the players came up with one goal and that was to become National Champions. Hard work, dedication, and commitment to each other is what these boys did from the month of August through April. Some people ask, what does it take to become National Champions? Having been part of a special group of hockey players this past season, this is what I can tell you...

...L.0.2 - Barriers to participation Introduction. In sport we have to take in a range of different performers, who come from various different backgrounds cultures and beliefs, each of these has its own demands and regulations for participation in sport and so it is the job of different organisations and sporting parties to overcome this, finding ways to include and allow everyone to participate in sport. The sports Development / Performance pyramid is an explanation of how participation and ability can be measured in sport. It helps to highlight the route a performer can take to become an elite performer. It includes four different sections; -The Foundation stage At this stage sport practisers are classed as novices, where the achievement and learning of basic skills and techniques are achieved. A scheme run by the government which helps to widen the amount of children participating in sport is called the 5x60 scheme. -The participation stage This stage consists of anyone who participates in sport regularly, for reasons such as socialising, health or fitness or enjoyment, to develop their skills in an activity. -The performance stage The Performance level consists of anyone involved in sport who aims to improve their skills. A participant will show commitment to help perfect their skills and they will be at a club or regional standard. -The elite stage Consists of skilled performers who aim to achieve set standards that are measurable usually through competition...

Personal Statement

...Subject: Successful Princeton Applicant Through all of my accomplishments and disappointments, I have always been especially proud of the dedication and fervor I possess for my personal beliefs and values. Unfortunately, it has often been difficult for me to remain outwardly firm and confident in a town where most people think alike and reject exceptions. Whenever I have expressed my position as a pro-life advocate, peers have badgered, accused, and ridiculed me for simply believing in something that they scorn. Despite all the pressure, I never waive red from my belief, yet I became frustrated and began to lose the courage to publicly express my opinion on this controversial topic. To gain some insight and reassurance for myself, I attended the New Jersey Right to Life Convention in the spring of 1995. This experience uplifted me and offered great inspiration and enlightenment. At the convention I received an overwhelming amount of support and encouragement from wonderful people who advocate the very principles I believe in. This convention was so inspiring that the next day in school I was able to relate my experience to one of my biggest opponents on the subject. Also, the abundant information available at the convention enabled me to defend my position on abortion more effectively. Attending this convention accomplished two things. It proved my commitment to my belief, in that I took the initiative to strengthen and support my opinion, refusing to give up or lose heart. Unlike...
