I served as a Teach for America corps member in one of the poorest communities in the entire county. I learned how to think holistically when factoring in student environments into how I planned lessons. This holistic philosophy served me well, and the osteopathic philosophy resonates well with this. Given my desire to serve low income patient populations, I know that being trained to think like an osteopathic physician will allow me to better serve my patients as a whole.

The school score was partly determined by the graduation rate, and thus administration was pressuring me to raise grades. I also knew that students would most likely never finish high school if they failed my course, but I did not believe they deserved to pass. It was very difficult and I met with each student to convince me that they would be different in the future. I still question whether I made the right decisions or not.
It will take discipline and focus. I know that medical school is my dream and that I every decision I make must help me to achieve my goals. I will always think about the communities I have had the privilege of serving and hope to serve. Due to a shortage of physicians I know that these communities need physicians and I will work so that I can live a fulfilling life of service to the underserved. I will use my experiences as motivation to grow each day and succeed in medical school.
Holding a part time job throughout college with many leadership activities, I learned how to balance a large course load. My senior year I took all of my upper level electives in a single year to graduate on time. My counselor advised against it and told me that I was "nuts". My ability to organize and balance schoolwork has only improved since I have gotten older and as a teacher I have learned best practices to learn
