...Stages Past Self 1. Think of an important event in your childhood. What does this event tell you about yourself in terms of Erikson’s stages? My important event in my childhood is when I won my drums recital at age 7 because I won the competition against 30 other drummers. I think that is the most important event in my childhood because I was able to accomplish something at a very young age and it just brings me joy and all my competitors looked up and idolized me that time. What this event tells me about myself is that you can make everything happen you just have to make that effort to do it 2. Circle what you believe was your resolution at each of the psychosocial stages below and then give a reason for your choice: AGE | STAGE | WHY? | 0 - 1 | Trust vs. Mistrust Trust | I choose trust because if you’re an infant your still finding someone to trust such as your mother | 1 - 3 | Self-reliance vs. Self-doubt Self-reliance | I choose self-reliance because, self reliance is the same thing as having confidence in everything will make you achieve everything | 3 - 6 | Initiative vs. Guilt Initiative | I choose initiative because I like to face challenges and I like making the right choices against the bad one | 6 - 12 | Industry vs. Inferiority Industry | I choose industry because I survive everything life throws at me and there is nothing to be afraid of if you are always doing right thing | Adolescence | Identity vs. Role...

Strong uncertainty avoidance is characterized by intolerance for behaviours and ideas that deviate from the norm. Collectivism vs Individualism: The extent to which people define themselves as autonomous individuals or members of groups. An individualist society is a loose organization of social structure. Femininity vs Masculinity: The distribution of emotional roles between the genders. A masculine society has social values such as competitiveness, assertiveness, self-confident materialism, ambition and power. A feminine society has different social values such as nurturing sympathy for the disadvantages, quality of life, friendship and harmonious environment. ...Introduction The focus of the present thesis is the passive voice, perceived from a semantico-syntactic point of view. My primary aim is to explore the use and functions of the passive voice in English, examining the reasons which motivate an author to prefer the passive form to the active one. Secondary interest is devoted to the function and the use of the passive voice in Czech. As research material I have chosen the short stories by the American writer O. Henry and their Czech translations by Stanislav Klíma. The reasons why I have chosen the genre of a short story are that it is noted for the unity of time, place and action. I believe that due to this fact, the results of my research will give higher evidence of the use of the passive voice since the basis for comparison is unified and compact contrary to, for example, a novel. For the same reason of evidence, I explore just the translations of one translator, since everyone has his/her personal style and different way of thinking and understanding of original text. I am interested in the issue of information packaging, especially in the different ways of expressing one and the same reality in the two languages: when both active and passive versions are formally permitted, what factors favour the choice of one over other? The passive voice is a phenomenon which is involved both in English and in Czech but in unlike extent. As far as I know, the passive voice is a favourite means of expression in English whereas in Czech...

...Essay: Choices Of LifeRead Full Essay Join Now! Choices of life What would you do if you could decide your future, your life and your way in a couple of seconds? Will you take the chance and risk, or will you sit and wait for something else to happen? I took a risk when I decided to come in the United States, and there is no doubt that this decision has been the biggest choice I had to make in my life so far. The proposal came almost out of nowhere. I had heard about a coach who was interested in college soccer players, so I went to a scrimmage he had organized, not thinking that I could be the chosen one, not thinking that a day like that could change my entire life course. After the game, the coach came to me and asked me, “Do you want to come to America?†I accepted the proposal in no time. After all, that was the reason I went to the scrimmage in the first place. I was so happy he selected me out of so many players that I did not think about the importance of my decision. After a few days and sleepless nights, I began to have second thoughts. I realized how big this was, how my life was going to change. All my friends, my family, my hometown, and my past were to be left behind. Would I have the strength to start all over again? This question was frightening me and the coward within me pulled me back. I wanted to quit, stay home, and go on with my life the way it was. On the other hand, I could not do that. I could not live with myself, knowing I had a chance...

...Luna Negotiation Case Analysis Deutsche Grusskarte Gesellschaft (DGG) and Global Service BATNA The Luna Case served as a dynamic negotiation process as it surfaced gender, cultural, and geographical barriers. In William Ury’s book Getting Past No, each of the five barriers to cooperation was touched upon: your reaction, their emotion, their position, their dissatisfaction, and their power. Realistically, there were many plausible negotiation strategies that Erika Graeper could have pursued, but in my opinion DGG’s strongest BATNA was to open up communication with Mr. Feng via formal letters and phone calls and demand compensation from Global Services for past and future sales (15% royalties with proof of monthly income). In bridging partnership, DGG would grant Global Services full permission for Luna pens to be sold in the Southeast Asian market. Global Service’s BATNA would be to continue to expand the market of pens and be granted fully autonomy of the Luna pen without being pressed for legal action. DGG [Represented by Erika Graeper] and Global Service’s Interest DGG’s current interests are not to revamp the production of the Luna pen, but they are interested in receiving royalties from Global Services for past, present, and future sales. In the negotiation process, DGG must remember that their company discontinued manufacturing and selling the pen years ago and any type of compensation should be recognized as a triumph. Alternatively, Global Services’ interests are to...

...Discover Financial Services is a banking and payment company that has been quite successful over the past few years as far as generating income from loans, particularly student loans. Taking a look at the chart below (Student Credit Growth) the increase in student credit is incredible for the market sector. The company’s largest competitor in this market in terms of size and profitability is Wells Fargo that also offers student loans online. This already established market shows no signs of slowing down in the near future. The aim of the game is to have competitive rates amongst your peers, which is exactly what both companies have done. They also offer incentives in order to compete with their identical loan structures. While both of them can be seen as traditional banks, they have moved their student loan services and other lending options online putting them in-line with other competitive “online lenders” to compete for their own share of the market and gain a competitive advantage. Online lenders compete in the market by taking several factors into consideration. These factors include but are not limited to cost of capital, customer service, and regulation. According to an article in the Huffington Post, the former administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration Karen Gordon Mills “showed the relative strengths and weaknesses of banks vs. online lenders.” (1). Within the article is a table assessing the competitive advantages of traditional banks and online lenders...

...will discover how he formed his theory of psychosocial developmental, along with explaining what stage my friend and I are currently in within his timeline. Erik Erikson (1902-1994) was a German born American developmental psychologist and psychoanalyst, whom formed a theory of psychosocial development on the human life cycle. Erikson’s major innovation was to take Freud’s psychosexual stages of the libido and transform them into a developmental model of psychosocial tasks, which identified eight stages of human development and their corresponding psychosocial tasks. (McAdams, 2009, "Chapter 9, Developmental Stages In Childhood ") To really determine which stage I’m currently in I had to carefully read though many stages, since the eight stages begins at the time of infancy to late adulthood, which will change within each individual and within their social world combined. After all of the reading I would say that I resign in the six stage of Erikson’s timeline Intimacy vs. Isolation (which he consider young adulthood). I think I’m currently in the stage of young adulthood, because I’m 27 years old and have accomplished the psychosocial issues listed in Erikson fifth stage of life Identity vs. role confusion (Adolescence). Some of the main factors I have accomplished in the fifth stage includes developing my sense of self, beliefs, independence, secure about my future, fidelity, and successfully becoming an identity achiever. The central question that was posed during...

...Dennis Stanton 3/28/12 Professor Doyon Intermediate Accounting II Writing Assignment 2 Thus far, Intermediate Accounting has been very challenging. However, I do not think any of the topics discussed-to-date have been over my head, and at this point in the semester I am beginning to feel somewhat like an accountant, with a solid, basic know-how in my field of study. My brother recently asked me for my opinion on some loans for his new food business: I was almost giddy that I could easily work out some present values. Also, many of my courses this semester overlap frequently, providing me with useful cross-referencing (from accounting to management to finance, etc). While many of my accounting courses have been similar in routine, I find Professor Doyon's teaching methods especially helpful. I don't believe I've ever had a professor more wanting or willing to help their students succeed than him (and this is entirely true, no kissing up!). The quality/quantity of information and the in-depth reminders we are given keep me on task, even when I'm struggling with the homework. The speed of the course is very fair, and I believe everyone in the class feels more than comfortable asking questions, whether it be mid-exercise, or to try a certain problem, or with an idea. The way we move through chapters, including the break-down of exercises/problems/cpa/cma questions seems thoroughly thought out in a way meant to help students begin with basic problems...

...Malcolm Knowles developed a theory in his MA thesis that challenged the ideas of pedagogy with respect to adult students. His thesis focused on the learner rather than the teaching method. The main idea was that the learning process differs greatly between children and adults for a variety of reasons. This idea was further refined in future books written by Knowles in the 1970s and he coined the idea with the word “andragogy” or the “adult focused teaching approach”. [1] The characteristics that define this new approach are: a need to know, experience, readiness, applicability, and motivation. Throughout this essay, I will discuss the characteristics of adult learning as defined by Knowles and identify the differences for each of these qualities with respect to the learning process for children. The first quality that Knowles identified is that adults are “self-directed” or need to be engaged in what they are learning. Most adults that have returned to the classroom are there most likely by choice. They are engaged in the classes they register based on the assumption of completing a degree and how this can effectively change their future. Adults need to be involved in the process in order to feel that they are an active a participant in the educational process. Knowles stated that children are dependent on rules and instructions given by their teachers and therefore are in full control of the direction of the child’s...

...Representational acting doesn’t require interaction between actors and audiences. It is as though the audience doesn’t even exist; they are separated from the stage and the actor is unaware of the audience’s presence. In contrast of representational acting, presentational is a term which use to emphasize theatricality and acknowledges the theatre as theatre. In presentational setting there is no illusion. In presentational theatre, epic stories can be told with a minimum number of actors and a few costumes and props. There are several conflicts exist in this play and I want to talk about the central conflict first. The central conflict in a play is the main problem in the story. The central conflict here is the man vs. the society, or we can say is the individual (free will) vs. government (Totalitarianism). The individual stands for Winston Smith and the government stands for the Big Brother. In the play, Winston was struggling on whether he should give up his own free will and obey Big Brother for everything or not. The government stands for Big Brother, a totalitarian...
