My Personal Writing Process

So there is a paper that needs to be written. Odds are that the topic of the said paper is going to be one that not many people are interested in. Which is why it is up to YOU my fine samaritan, to rescue the world of essays and entertain the masses by turning boring subjects such as, “The pros and cons of using double-ply toilet paper,” into extraordinary tales of epic proportion! Then maybe you can throw in some of those boring facts here and there. Regardless of what toiletries you indulge in, the best thing you can do is keep your audience entertained, which is what I aim for.
For starters, you may have noticed my writing process normally begins with figuring out what would make a topic interesting. It is far too often in which I see people giving speeches about mundane topics they don’t actually care about and it results in the same audible pleasure of listening to a broken tv. It just comes out as mindless static as they read word for word in the world's most monotone voice. Everyone else has to sit through the same hundred speeches that you do, so why not make yours something that people will remember? Give it your own personal twist and be proud of what you’ve done. …show more content…
While writing this paper, assuming it is a factual one, I begin by setting my main points. Normally I only have one pencil on me, so the paper is going to consistently get uglier and sloppier. That is why computers are wonderful things! My teachers don’t have to worry about whether or not they just received an essay from a drunken dyslexic alien. As long as my essay seems intriguing, teachers will normally look past my atrocious handwriting. After I finish writing my main points I will only change it up around fifty times before I go back to my original points, realizing I wasted a majority of my allotted time on re-wording perfectly acceptable

Personal Narrative: My Writing Process

...My writing process often begins with good intentions. As soon as I receive an assignment, I begin planning my essay and gathering my ideas. However, I often have trouble actually getting work done until I feel motivated by my time constraints. This is a weak point that could potentially cause my work to suffer. Once enough time has passed that I am under some pressure to start putting pen to paper, I gather my laptop, a pencil, and some paper. I prefer making notes about the topic of my assignment on a piece of paper before actually writing any drafts. I make short, simple notes, so it does not usually take very much time. After I have researched my points, I make a basic outline for my essay. This helps me keep my paper organized and make...

Personal Narrative: My Writing Process

...beginning of the year to now, the end of the year, my writing process and skills have dramatically changed. My writing process coming into junior year was not vigorous; I would not begin the pre-write and just go straight into the writing process. Regrettably, I would procrastinate till the last night to actually begin my writing, therefore, I would rush my writing process. In addition, my evidence and commentary was poor. With this being the process for me as a writer, of course, my worse essay was the first writing assignment, the non-fiction essay. This piece of writing was a mess and I am pretty positive I did not even read over it after I was done. Luckily, I changed my habits over the course of the year and began organizing my time and writing better....

Personal Narrative: My Writing Process

...If I am writing a paper, work e-mail, or discussion post for an online course I tend to use the same writing process. I would say it is a mix of both Anne Lamott’s described process in “Shitty First Drafts” and the 3x3 writing process in Guffey. My writing is usually done in 3 stages but sometimes only 2, when the prewriting and drafting stage blend together or if I am preparing something like and e-mail that does not need as much prewriting as a paper or discussion post might need. The first thing I do when preparing to write it get out a piece of paper and take notes. I scribble down the questions that needed answered or my thoughts on the topic of the e-mail I am preparing. Once I have those thoughts on paper I try and began to organize...

Personal Narrative: My Individual Writing Process

...Thinking about my individual writing process has caused me to forget how I begin a paper. It’s strange to think about the concept of what writing is before you actually write something. After reading over the assigned pages to give me the help I need to discover what my individual writing process is I “skimmed” over freewriting. I tend to just start writing and let my thoughts flow and I feel like it’s what best suits my writing style. So here we go. My individual writing process includes freewriting, lists, and looping. I like to use freewriting because I enjoy continually writing and letting my ideas flow out. Sometimes when I get stuck, it helps me to have a list of the things that I want to include in my writing so I can elaborate and expand on them. After I get to a certain point, I use the process of looping. Looping can be considered a side effect of freewriting. I loop by rereading what I have written and decide if I like the order and the theme of my...

I have not enrolled in any business classes at the moment but this is an aspect am considering to engage in so that I could increase chances to get a management position within the information technology sector. As a computer scientist, my professional objective involves contributing to the development of software and hardware that could reduce security risks. However in order to achieve this long-term professional objective of my career, I look forward upon the completion of my studies with admirable grades. My long –term professional objective of creating security within the information technology sector coincides with my goal for this writing course. In development of computer programs, there is a lot of creativity that is required just like what is highlighted in most writing courses. Personal writing experience in comparison to the process approach I have handled writing in my previous experiences. This has involved writing of term papers and assignments. In this form of writing, I noticed that what is required is objectivity. In such forms of writing, one is supposed to concentrate on facts that exist in theories and concepts. Unless it is asked by the tutor, writers of such papers are supposed to be objective. I found that this form of writing to be so rigid because one is not supposed to give his...

Cause and Effect Eating Disorder

...My Personal Writing Process Maya James COM/170 September 8, 2014 John Samar Abstract Writing has always been a challenge for me since grammar school and all the way to my senior year in high school. In the past, when I was writing any type of paper, formal or informal I tend to be all over the place (no direction), which can cause confusion among readers. It was much different from the writing process that is discussed in the book because I did not follow the important rules of writing. Just by starting this class and I have already learned so much about the proper way of writing and the techniques to improve my writing skills. Moving forward, I plan on using the important rules that will prevent me from making the mistakes I made in the past. I am able to follow the prewriting process to help me in organizing and developing my ideas. Prewriting works for me because I love researching information, writing different ideas, and sharing my thoughts in developing topics that will catch the reader’s attention. Then, I create an outline to organize my main ideas into small sub ideas that will describe, explain, and support the main topic. Once I finish the outline then I organize my ideas and write a rough draft of my topic using my own words to make it more personal and relatable to my reader. The next process is to edit or proof read, and then revise my rough draft by improving the sentences, creating a structure, and to make sure the content is clear and concise. So far...

My portfolio highlights these acquired skills through two outside of class essays, which required two completely different styles of writing. This included but was not limited to, editorials, newspaper articles, books, and specific disciplines of research in course related fields. Critical Reflection Paper

...important tools for improving not only my writing skills but also –and especially—my thinking skills. This class taught me a method for thinking and writing. While looking at the critical research reflection I cannot help but think of the word “reflect? “Since the beginning of this class, I had to reflect on course texts, reflect on the sources, reflect on personal experience, and reflect on peer reviews and discussion posts. Dr. ND asked me to reflect on my writing and to think carefully, especially before making a decision or reaching a conclusion. Why the word "reflect" is so important? What does it mean, "to reflect”? The philosopher Locke said that the act of reflection is characterized by mental acts of doubt, believe, think, have emotions, and feelings (Locke). I believe that my final research paper is an essay that has all the characteristics described by Locke. The final project includes feelings, personal experience, thoughts, doubts, questions, answers, and reasoning....
