...end of my eighth grade year when my music teacher, Mrs. Weirup, determined it would be fun to do a play and force everyone in the eighth grade class participate in it. At first, I didn’t see it as a big deal; I had figured I would just be a background character anyway. It took what seemed like forever for her to decide what play to put on, but she finally pronounced we were doing The Wizard of Oz. We all had tryout, but we couldn’t audition for a certain character because she knew none of us wanted to be one of the primary characters. A week after we auditioned, she gave us our roles. This had to be one of the worst moments of my entire life because I had obtained the part I absolutely did not want. She decided to make me the Lion....

...A Reaction to The Legend Of Georgia McBride By: Matthew Lopez I would like to start off by acknowledging the great overall experience of attending a play at the Gable Stage. After much anticipating I got the chance to attend The Legend of Georgia McBride and I must say I was not disappointed. A wonderful evening it was and “blown away” is the best emotion to describe my reaction. In the following passage’s I will give further insight and details to support my experience. My information will be based on my views, critiques, and analyzations of my experience, by using the tools and knowledge that I have acquired throughout this course. I will start with calling the box office to purchase my tickets and end with curtain call. Before I start,...

...project, I observed my little nephew, la’akea, who is 5 years old. He is the Second oldest, and is treated like the only child because his older sister is in middle school and his younger brother is just 3months. My nephew is 3’10 and around 50lbs, and is haole / Hawaiian. La’akea is very sociable and is very attentive. He loves to play games and play with all kinds of technology such as an ipod, ipad or computer, but he plays with these technology only because he has no one to play with at home because his brother is to small to do anything. My sister-in-law and brother work long shifts and are usually worn out by the time they get home. My nephew lacks attention and people to play with at home; which is why he plays on gadgets all the time. However, when he comes over to our house for the weekend, We go all over with him such as go the park, fun factory, and we go out to eat when ever he’s at my house and I love eating so it works out perfectly for the both of us right there. La’akea comes over to my house almost every weekend. This past weekend I took time aside to observe his actions and put into play what I learned while in this class. When I got home from the practice La’akea was already upstairs playing games. Friday’s are usually my family’s day to catch up. When I get home on Fridays, my mom is usually making dinner, my brothers and their girlfriends are usually watching T.V. or playing card games with La’akea in the kitchen talking story, and my mom is usually always...

...2013 Final Play Contributions A play consists of many contributions. These contributions come from the people that make up the entire production. In our production “Kidnapped,” every person played a significant role in the overall success. As a team, we created a play that shows the serious and funny aspects of theatre. Working with everyone in my group has been absolutely amazing. Everyone put in an equal amount of effort and it made everything flow in a positive way. I believe that my contributions to the play helped the production run smoothly. The overall theme of the production revolves around a game called “kidnapped.” This game consists of someone getting picked up and dropped off in a random location to be later picked up after they have struggled to find out where they are. My brother and I came up with this concept. We wanted to do this because we really liked the game “a Game’s Afoot.” That play revolved around a murder mystery. Therefore, we decided to copy that same idea and make it our own. By taking this overall theme, we decided to use the fact that my brother and I are twins. By using this advantage, we added a background story to the theme and a little bit of organized confusion. My role in this production was to be the twin that was “kidnapped” and thrown into the woods. After I am dropped off into the woods, I realize that I do not want to play the game. When I pull out my phone to call my friends to get me out of the woods, I discover that my phone battery...

...I saw The Wiz at Bartlett Academy. My class finished the play on September fifth. This play is about a girl named Dorothy went to a place called Oz by a storm and went on this adventure with a Scarecrow, Tin-Man, and Lion. They wanted to go see the Wiz of Emerald City. All of them wanted something from the Wiz in order to do that they have to do something for the Wiz. My overall opinion this play is that it was pretty solid play because it was rehearsed enough to be good. Also, I felt like it had a had a lot of mobility. My favorite actor in this play would be Tin-Man. Tin-Man was the most realistic as in you was really meant to play the part because he moved like he was made of tin and his singing and dancing was amazing. My least favorite would be Lion. Lion didn't have a huge part to the play he really would not have done any difference if he wasn't there. I wish he did have a bigger role, but he didn't. Everyone in this play was active and ready to go. No one was slacking or being lazy. The energy made me have energy because the play was so loud. When...

...Racquetball is my favorite sport, so I play it two or three times a weak except for the weeks of midterms and finals. I play with two boys and one girl. We usually play at the Country Club racquetball corts. You have to pay ten dollars for the court, even if your a member. Some kids think thats awful. But I think its fair. Tuesdays I play with Joe my neighbor and classmate. He's a wild and crazy guy on the courts. Swinging wildly and forcefully he hits the ball so hard sometimes that it makes a whistling noise. As it zooms passed me to smack into the wall. Although we have played racquetball together for two years I have yet to return one of those killer balls. My other steady partner is Jaime. A friend who used to play tennis competitively....

I would take the message “teachers have six roles in supporting children’s play” with me in the profession of early childhood education. A teacher can be the observer, collaborator, planner, responder, role model, and mediator of play. ...referred to as a play because it tells a story and is also performed on stage. In addition, drama is similar to plays in that it has a theme, a plot and is often narrated by a persona (Ghent, 2012, 629). Also, drama is also known as a play in that it evokes emotions and has a tone just like a play. During my high school days, the school invited a group of people who performed a play on HIV/AIDs. This was my initial time to timepiece a live stage performance. The characters perfectly represented their roles in that the audience felt as if the characters were real. For example, those characters representing HIV patients appeared weak and sad; the sounds were full of sympathy as they spoke. Every scene had its own sounds that paralleled the theme and purpose of the act (Meyer, 2011, p111). There were cries, mourns and even sounds of desperation. Throughout the drama, the audience was full of sad mood. HIV/AIDs infection was presented as something that people should be afraid of. The audience was also filled with pity and sympathy for the infected characters. Since it was my first encounter to see a live stage drama, the theme, scenes and characters were a great impact to my life and my understanding of what entails a drama. For a elongated time I had wished to be involved in a dramatic act until one day, my literature teacher appointed me and other colleagues to practice for a drama known as 'A Doll's House' that would be presented during the school’s parents day. My character was...

...or even a boring day, an absolute blast. The Play That Goes Wrong has finally made its way to America and right at the heart of New York City near Times Square at the Lyceum Theatre, makes the experience a win-win situation for the audience. The Lyceum Theatre’s architecture is astonishing as its filled with ornaments; I also realized the letter ‘L’ around the theater, but the most interesting fact is that this theater is a landmark. It has a proscenium stage in which the audience is in the orchestra, balcony, or the mezzanine seats where I sat, and there is barely any space if you are a tall person. My seat was near the far end of mezzanine, I couldn’t see a part of the left side...

...Researchers have found that kids who play football have many benefits. Football provides physical benefits including strength, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility. Football helps them improve their speed, strength, hand-eye coordination and overall cardiovascular endurance. Football provides physical benefits including flexibility, lower the body fat and progressives muscle tones. This sport will also help them with showing them discipline, gives them many opportunities, and helps them with leadership. One reason why I would let my son play football is because football is a great resource that helps players with leadership. “For much of my playing career, most parents with young children who played football were most interested in my workout regimen and what supplements I was taking.” (Fujita) Playing football provides players with opportunities to develop skills in communication. “I found myself receiving e-mail after e-mail from people presumably motivated by keyword searches for “football, concussion, trauma, disease.” (Fujita) These abilities allow people to operate productively as leaders. Playing or coaching sports such as football, soccer and any other types of sport activities...

...In my life I have played many sports, including soccer, basketball, baseball, football, and last and my personal favorite lacrosse. All of these sports were good at the time, but I never stuck with them. That is except for lacrosse. Lacrosse and soccer are the only sports I still play today. Lacrosse is by far my favorite sport. I liked the other sports but not as much as I love lacrosse. I have been playing lacrosse for 3 years. I started because a few of my friends played and I went with to a tournament to watch them play and wanted to try it out. My cousin was also the girls lacrosse coach at UMD. He had given me lacrosse sticks when I was younger and me and my brother Aaron would play catch with them every now and then. I never really...

...1. RATIONALE: “Interest in play is booming. Over the past decade, there has been an unprecedented out-pouring of empirical studies, volumes, conferences and news letters addressed to the topic.”(CG Fein, Child Development, 1981) From my research on this particular topic, it is clear that there is more and more work and effort going into researching the benefits of Pretend Play in the lives of young children. I decided to base my research on this topic as it is a vital part of the child’s learning and development and it is a part of a child’s life on a daily basis from almost the minute they are born. Pretend play is partially based on what children experience in their lives and then they imitate this by engaging in pretend play. They pick...

...March 25, 2015 Website Review My daughter is turning twelve years old this year and she wants to celebrate it at a restaurant called American Girl located at the Grove mall. I’ve heard before about this specific store because my wife always buys her Christmas present from this place but didn’t know they had a restaurant. So, I went online to plan my budget for her birthday. The website I visited was www.americangirl.com. When you go to the website, it’s all pink with a mixture of purple and something that really called my attention is that as a title is has “American girl, follow your inner star” and I think that this gives a very nice messages to little girls who are growing up to be a well rounded ladies. In the front pages it is decorated for Spring advertisement and it is very interactive. I can tell that girls from different ethnic groups are being represented and this makes me think that the little girls who visit this pages to play feel somehow identified or connected to the dolls. The website offers three categories for the visitors: Shop, Play and Stores. Under the shop section, you find all the dolls the company has created and there are a lot of dolls that girls can choose from. I think that all ethnic groups are represented and something very unique about this company is that they have dolls with disabilities as well. Aside from the dolls, the have clothing and dolls are girls outfits and every accessory necessary for this dolls; they even have a hospital for...

...the only entrance… The yard is a small dirt yard, partially fenced, except for the last scene…” (0.1-0.3). Throughout the play Wilson uses the description and placement of the fence to change the mood in the scene or the attitudes of the characters. “Much of the conflict… arises because the characters are at odds with the way they see the past and what they want to do in the future”(sparknotes.com). Whether the fence is too keep people in or out, there is always a struggle to know what is on the other side. Corresponding to the text, August Wilson’s own life is exemplified. Wilson uses “the settings of all but one of the plays [in] the Pittsburgh ‘hill district’” (Edgar 1328). During the early part of his life was spent living in poverty. Wilson’s father soon left the family by the time he was five leaving his mother, Daisy, to care for the six children. She later remarried and moved to the Hill District. Wilson felt the pressure of being one of the only African-American students and dropped out of school to teach himself in the library. “He educated himself so well that eventually the Library granted him a degree”(Edgar 1328). When writing Fences, Wilson pulled from the 1950s and the Civil Rights Movement. Wilson also gives reference to the 1940s Negro Baseball League by having Troy argue “about if you could play ball then they ought to have let you play. Don’t care what color you were.”(1.1). Wilson portrays the anger of segregation through the characters almost as if he felt...

...The Good Person of Szechwan Evaluation Rehearsals: I believe that our rehearsals for our performance of The Good Person of Szechwan went very well. I always turned up on time to the rehearsals and gave them my undivided attention; however, I was slighting disappointed with some of the other actress’s approach to the rehearsals. This is because I felt that they did not concentrate as much as they should have been doing. I admit there may have been a few rehearsals where I was not at 100% motivated, however I tried my best to still rehearse to my best ability. To ensure that everyone knew what they were going in each scene I put together a character scene list. I did this so that we would not waste any time messing about trying to figure out which character we were supposed to play in the next scene. I believe this allowed me to develop and use my time management and organisational skills to benefit our company. Another personal management skill that I did not do so well at as I would...
