...In my summer holiday, I did not do something special and did not go somewhere special except Chamonix and Venice. Most of my holiday was showing friends of my parents and my grandparents the most important and the most beautiful places of Geneva and its surroundings. I started the summer holiday before everyone (6 days before). That was because of my grandparents. Well, it first started off when my grand parents came. We were going by car where my grandmother wouldn't walk and I was walking with my grandfather. Because my grandfather likes walking and my grandmother doesn't. Well they stayed for 1 month and went back to Turkey. The next visitors were my mother's schoolmates (can you believe it!!). They stayed one month as well. We kind of went to same places, when they were gone that was the fun. We went to Chamonix and Venice. The best thing there was the Jacuzzi and the pool. In Chamonix, the mountains haven. The highest there was Mont-Blanc and Auguille du Midi. We climbed with a cable car; it was totally amazing and extremely cold. This point was 3842 meters high. And, of course, I should not forget Venice, it was also a haven but I didn't see much because we had small amount of time. The most amazing thing was the square of San Marco Polo and then the gondolas. The thing I really liked about my holiday was getting a brand new VW Passat and seeing my grandparents (first time in two...

...How I spent my school vacation How I spent my school vacation??? First of all, I have to say I hate the word spent. It is like I wasted my time, like I used up my vacation. Everyone LOVES their summer vacation. Who doesn’t? Because after a longggg time of coming to school every day, doing homework and facing terrible tests, we all need a break. After a long time of studying for my end of term semester exams, I was in desperate need of a good, long break. So when our holidays came around, I was so excited and relived. Holidays generally mean, waking up late, playing with friends and relatives, going places, eating lots of food and watching a lot of cartoons on TV. That was the way it was for me… but in addition to that we went a on a trip too. My father had his vacation that same month and our whole family was over-joyed. We decided to spend the month in Kandy at one of our relatives’ house. It was the most AWESOME Vacation we ever had. Their house was soooo beautiful and their garden, like a paradise. The house was small, but that was another reason why it was fun, because I had to share rooms with the son at that house who was the same age as me. We were so mischievous and were up to all kinds of fun. At nights after our parents had told us to go to sleep, we would secretly play video games or fighting games, or pillow fights, or act like we are camping until the late hours. His name was Mustafa. Anyways together Mustafa and I went on bike rides and helped his mother in...

...And just like them old stars I see that you've come so far To be right where you are How old is your soul? I won't give up on us Even if the skies get rough I'm giving you all my love I'm still looking up And when you're needing your space To do some navigating I'll be here patiently waiting To see what you find 'Cause even the stars they burn Some even fall to the earth We've got a lot to learn God knows we're worth it No: I won't give up I don't wanna be someone who walks away so easily I'm here to stay and make the difference that I can make Our differences they do a lot to teach us how to use The tools and gifts we got, yeah, we got a lot at stake And in the end, you're still my friend at least we did intend For us to work we didn't break, we didn't burn We had to learn how to bend without the world caving in I had to learn what I've got, and what I'm not, and who I am I won't give up on us Even if the skies get rough I'm giving you all my love I'm still looking up, still looking up. I won't give up on us (no I'm not giving up) God knows I'm tough enough (I am tough, I am loved) We've got a lot to learn (we're alive, we are loved) God knows we're worth it (and we're worth it) I won't give up on us Even if the skies get rough I'm giving you all my love I'm still looking...

...always light up with gratitude and as he smiled, one could see the coffee stained teeth which seemed as though it was never cleaned and as he passed by, one could get the smell of garbage implying that this man lived and slept on the sidewalks. As he shuffled outside again, all the patrons turned to look at him, regarding him as a disgusting, bothersome fly. My kindness extended to the man as I made it my duty to collect old clothing which the neighbours in my street wished to discard and I would give it to the old man when he came into the store. My fellow co-workers questioned my actions and I would just consider it as a kind deed to an unfortunate human. On several occasions, when the old man came into the shop, I would notice the owner, Mr Job, speaking to him harshly and gesticulating wildly, but I never did question his actions for I thought that Mr Job was plainly scolding the man for always coming into the shop and disturbing the customers. A week later, Mr Job’s father died and two days after the funeral, when everyone resumed work, I was, for some strange reason, quite jumpy and nervous. I was also surprised to see that my friend, the old man, had not been into the coffee shop as yet in order to get his meal....

...At summer band camp I had a great time. I learned a lot about music, my instrument, and more. This was my second year at band camp and I plan to return to learn more, and stay familiar with my instrument. The band camp was located at scarlet, about a half of an hour drive from my house. I had to wake up at 8:00, get ready, leave at 8:30, and arrive at 8:50-9:00. I usually had 10 minutes to warm up, and than we began. We started by a instructor explaining their instrument, how they warm up, and some thing about it. After that we spilt up into groups with the instructors, they would help us to play and read music skillfully as well as practice the band piece. Next, we went with other instructors who focussed on helping us read music, for example,...

...My last summer vacation This summer vacation I went to Helgenæs with my mother, my sister, my mother and my brother. The first day we went up to the train station early to get to Aarhus. The ride on the bus was long and I couldn’t wait for it this year’s summer vacation. The ride at the train was long and I played PSP (Play Station Portable) almost all the time, and the rest of the time I played computer. After about 3 hours at the train we finally got there, Aarhus Hovedbanegård. My mother’s boyfriend, Flemming, waited for us there. Then we drove to Helgenæs in his car, the ride was very, very long and sometimes boring. ZZZZZZZZZZZZ! But then we finally got there after a long ride and I went happy. The rest of the day we were together, enjoying us selves and having fun. I played some computer and I text-messaged with my friend Nicolai. The next day we were walking and enjoying us selves, whilst Flemming were working a lot, we went to Sibirien, and we saw the beautiful nature at Helgenæs. After that we went home and saw some TV. The next day we went off for a walk to climb the hill called Ellemandsbjerget (the highest hill at Helgenæs) but that wasn’t a long climb, because we never went there. Instead of climbing Ellemandsbjerget we went off for another walk around Ellemandsbjerget. The next day we went to Ebeltoft to shop, we didn’t see anything special there, and we went for something to eat. And what did we eat???? Pizza! The classic Italian pizzas like you know it...

...rewind us back to our childhood time. Sounds come from everywhere, everything, and such as: animals, nature include weather, or objects in the environment. For me, I hear a lot of sounds in my whole life. Some of the sounds I hear can make me think back of my childhood’s memories. Summer season almost approach to us. Sound that most reminds me of the summer are related to insect, weather, and natural. Surprisingly enough, insect is the most annoying bugs at night in the summer. They are everywhere, from the grass to the trees. One night in summer day, I was sitting outside in the balcony in the dark and couldn’t see things well because I lit the candles. I heard the “buzz, zee” sound around my ear; I knew some kind of bee around me. I was terrified that night because I would look horrible if I got stung. I immediately blew the candle so the bee couldn’t see me. Lucky me, it flew away after a few minutes. Bumble bees are a big nightmare to me. So every time I see bees, I remember that night. It was a scary night but also a memory in summer. Bumble bees are friendly to some people but it is my enemy. Summer is the season of rain, thunderstorm and lightning. Everyone likes rain because it cleans out all the dirt and pollen from the trees. When I see rain, I remember my six- grade school year in my country. Back then, we wore uniform when we went to school with a white top, blue bottom and a tie. I didn’t know it will rain that day, and I rode a bike to school. When I rode back home...

...to see summer going. For me, especially the way this summer has gone, I can’t agree. Yes, I’ll definitely miss the Saints games. I’ll miss the nice days, but for me, this is the time of year when I’m looking ahead. I’m getting closer to finishing up the software I’ve been working on all summer long. I may actually even get to take a real vacation in a month or two. Plus, with the advent of cooler evenings, I’m actually able to open the windows at home and avoid the noise of the air-conditioner and fans once in a while. And I’ve got a hope that with cooler weather, a break in the work (at least temporarily), and no Saints games taking up my my evenings, I’ll find more time to get out and ride my trike. And it’s been this way since I started my business. I’ve always tried to take on less work over the summers, but every year but one I’ve been working on a project that was originally supposed to be done in May, and ended up finishing around September. It’s a chronic problem in the software field, but being an outsider on these projects, I wonder why companies don’t bite off smaller chunks so they can let their employees take some time off during the summer when the ankle-biters are home from school, and families want to take vacations. And just for completeness’ sake, I should note that the one summer I had off, I was working on a project that was running late, and when hit with completely unreasonable demands on my time in May, I left the project, rather than ruin my summer...

...My Ideal Summer Vacation A warm and sunny afternoon last day, I was in a deep thought. I was thinking, if I would be given a chance to have a summer vacation without worrying about the expenses, maybe it could be my ideal one. This thought triggered me to ask myself, “What would be my ideal summer vacation looks like?” To start my visualization, I would like to spend it in a place afar from the noisy streets of the city. A place where the only sounds I can hear are the chirping of the birds, the waves crashing on the shore and the laughter of my family. In that place, the trees are dancing gracefully and flowers are waving gently with the wind. In the distance, the shore is filled with sand so white, crystal clear water and with porpoises on the sea side. On the top of the hill resides our home, a small bungalow type but filled with so much contentment and joy. Inside of it are simple things to suffice our needs. Upon entering the entrance door, you will see the clean and tidy living room, with a window on the right that offers a beautiful sight of the blue ocean. Beside our home, there stood a tall and old narra tree that gives us shade during the day. Flowers of different kinds and varieties grows around the yard abundantly. Then, I can see the endless sky above with shiny shimmering stars blinking at night and in the water, it seems the unreachable stars are within my grasp. In a distance, I can see the fire keeps burning from the bonfire we have made, and beside it,...

...For students, summer is a time to recollect and enjoy free time amongst friends and family. One does not have to worry about waking up early, tests to be studied for, and stressful occurrences throughout the school year. Summer is the best season because people can do desirable things he or she typically does not have time for; I, for one, enjoy not going to school, traveling across the world, swimming, and going to different band camps. Do not get me wrong, school can be enjoyable, but it can be tremendously stressful. One thing I have learned it that school does not stop even when the worst situations happen in life. If a life has been taken in one’s family or if you have a difficult home life, school does not stop. Thankfully though, summer gives me the opportunity to recollect, find my inner peace, and to simply exit the life of stress and responsibilities temporarily....

...Fall - A Time Transition The fall season has many meanings for me. It is a time of transition that takes us from warm balmy days to the more harsh weather of winter. It's a time that takes us from the spectacle of nature in full bloom, to nature in hibernation. The signs of this transition are everywhere. The vivid colors of summer fade away, the color of the sky changes from deep blue to gray. The green fades from the grass and plants lose their blossoms. The leaves on the trees turn color, and lose their grip. Insects disappear. It's the tune of year that signifies the end of summer and vacations. No more picnics, swimming, baseball, tennis, and a myriad of other activities that most of us enjoy in the outdoors. It signals that during the next few months we will have to endure weather conditions that are not conducive to spending quality time outdoors enjoying nature. The knowledge of this seasonal period of transition awakens, in me, a more keen awareness of my surroundings than at any other time of year. The deeper appreciation comes from knowing that the good weather days are coming to an end. The fall season conjures up all sorts of analogies in my mind. For example, football and basketball games are divided into four quarters, a dollar is divided by four quarters, the calendar year is divided into four quarters, and the human life span might also be divided into four 20 year parts, assuming that we live an average of 80 years. In all these examples, the third period precedes...

...WK 2: Community Profile In a community there lives a diverse group of people. These people are what make a community a home or a neighborhood. This neighborhood needs to be respected and protected in order for people to thrive and carry-on with their everyday lives. My community is made up families raising their children and just going with everyday life. We take pride in living for our children. Sports and education is big in the community, during school and during the summer months as well. When the adults are not working they take their leisure time going to basketball games on Friday nights during the fall or baseball games during the summer. Also during the summer months my community has a farmers market. The farmers market supports local farmers and also brings other small businesses out. The farmers market always brings out the community and brings people together. It is also a great way to contribute to small businesses and give back. Some other wonderful, fun things we have during the summer months that brings the community together are car shows, a day in the park and the jubilee. A reason we can have these things is because of the workforce in the community. The workforce ranges from industry to clerical to fast food to medical. We are very diverse in what needs to be done. The community used to be mostly industrial but a lot of factories were shutdown due to the economy. The community still has a couple of bigger industrial factories that are in production but...

...Sights, smells and view from the front porch of my parent’s home in Southwestern New Mexico is a memorable place. To this day I will smell the smoke from a chimney or fresh baked cookies and it takes me back home. The heat of summer gives you the feeling after baking something when you put your face in front of the oven as you open the door. That blast of hot, dry air sucking all the moisture from your lungs. It has always made me chuckle when I hear people say, “But it is a dry heat”. The summer time also brings the monsoon season toward July and August. Watching the clouds cross the sky like big balls of cotton, you can make out different shapes if you look at them with the open mind of childhood. As the day wares on they begin collecting, growing into to a huge darkening mass. With the inevitable rain creatures from the hairy tarantula scurrying across the roads, to the local rancher’s cattle chewing her cud, all have a sense of the storm and begin looking for shelter. When the rains does come it is fast and furious, many of the creeks filled with fast moving water, carrying whatever debris along with it. Fall is always a latecomer to my corner of New Mexico, but when it does arrive, it comes in with all colors a-blaze. Brown, reds, yellows, russets, and burgundies vie with each other for places of honor in forest and field. A small orchard of apricot and apple trees my parents have always seems to be ablaze like a formation of match sticks. The mornings are crisp;...
