My development story
My personal development journey across the lifespan from birth to my current age which is twenty years old, was a long journey I don’t think I would ever change. In this paper I will cover and analyze the various dimensions of development at each stage, which are physical, cognitive, personality and social. Physical development is the growth of my body and brain, sensory capacities, motor skills, and health. Cognitive development is Learning, attention, memory, language, thinking, reasoning, and creativity. Psychosocial Development is my emotions, personality, and social relationship’s. That’s exactly what I am going to be talking about. As an infant to the age I am right now I have had my ups and downs, my bad moments etc. Child development takes over everything we do in life. “It focuses on the scientific study of systematic processes of change and stability in human child.” (Martorell 2013 pg4)
When my mom was pregnant her prenatal stage was great for her. She did not have any difficult things happen to her. She had a pretty easy pregnancy and didn’t have trouble with anything. The OBGYN told my parents everything was perfect with her and I and it was true As
I was born my parents got scared because I wasn’t breathing for a few seconds and then they heard my cry and they got relived and felt better to know I was okay. I weighed about the size of a regular size baby which was seven pounds and thirteen ounces. One day as I turned 6 months I couldn’t breath and was very hard for me to breath, so the doctors ended up telling my parents I had asthma and I was in the hospital for about a day and had the asthma mask on me My physical growth and development of motor skills where very rapid. As I hit 9 months I got the chicken pocks and they ended up going away after 10 days, and they all went away. I know that not all baby’s get chickenpox at all till they are older or maybe not ever but I did. I started

walking at 10 months without any help and never crawled just got up and started walking. I would throw myself instead of crawling.
I was a very fast learner as an infant to three years of age, I had the mind of and adult everything I would hear or see people do I would catch on very quickly and do whatever they would do so my parents said. I started potty traing by the age of one and didn’t wear diapers anymore. And the cognitive development for babys to be potty trained is at the age of two and I beat it by one year. I stared talking with full worlds at the age 1 and a half. I was very attached to my parents as all the other infants are as well. I started have interest for other little kids at 11 months and started playing with them and interacting with them more. I started getting my little tantrums at 9 months till maybe about three when I didn’t want to wear something I didn’t want to wear, or for not getting what I wanted. I had a really funny and interesting stage in the infancy to toddler stage.
In my early childhood years from 3 to 6 I started stretching and losing some of my baby fat. I also started getting smarter and being able to start learning words from books and by the age of 6 I had developed the skill of being able to read. I had I really fast mindset. My selfawareness was becoming better and was aware of everything around me. I had more strength growing up. I was very smart at the age of 6 learning math, science, and arts and crafts etc.
My personality with others was very good and I would get along with everyone I was every social with others as many children are with others at that age. I did have a stage like about the age of 4 that I would get a bit aggressive with other little kids. I still remember till this day that I would get really mad when people would bully me and I would hit them and I would always get in trouble for it. I never really told of the children, I don’t know why but I believe that

made me not want to go to school for a while because I would get blamed for everything and the other person never did
As a middle childhood age at 6 to 11 year old where my days where very active. I was in many sports but the main one was dance. I would always be active and would never stop. I actually maybe grew 3 inches and didn’t grow after that but I believe that is normal at that age and we all at that age stow our growing sprout. I did get sick with and infection in my mouth to the point where I could not share my food with anybody at all. I don’t know what it was called till this day but it was very swollen, I even asked my parents and they don’t even remember the name of the infection. As I got to first grade I was very good at all the subjects except math for some reason. “Cognitive gains permit children to benefit from formal schooling. Some children show special educational needs and strengths.” (Martorell 2013 pg4) Math was a very hard subject to me they would try explaining it to me but I would not get it as fast as all the other children in my class. At times I would ask the teacher for help and they would get mad and annoyed at me and would not want to help me anymore. I believe that’s why I started slacking off in my math and not really paying attention as I got older because I had the sense that not all teachers where going to help me.
Adolescence stage which is 11 to 20 where my attitude started to change. At the age of 12
I had my first boyfriend and I started becoming girly and all shy. I never held his hand or even hugged him. I was very shy with him and a little angel. I was hiding it from my parents and started getting a little attitude. I stared talking back to my parents and started just pretty much getting a bad attitude once I started hitting my teenage years. I ended up hitting puberty and got my period at the age of 13. I was one of the late starters from all my friends that I knew.
Everybody would talk about their periods and everything and I would be the only one confused

and just walk away. I was very personal with my business. My physical development, I started growing and getting a bit taller not as tall as others but I did get a bit taller and as I got to the age of 15 I just stopped growing. As I entered highschool I started seeing how people would change and I didn’t think It would change so much I went to two different middle schools and two different high schools and I had friends from middle school go to both of those highschools and not one friend did I hang out I ended up changing my friends and I didn’t just stick with one I had different kind of friends as in bad influence friend smarty pants etc. It was pretty cool and I got lucky because I was and still am not shy to meet new friends it is pretty easy making friends.
At the age of 16 going on 17 my boyfriend cheated on me once I entered 12th grade and my heart was completely broken and was thinking all these crazy things because I was so in love with him. I am 20 years old right now and I can’t believe how crazy I was to be that in love with someone for so long, that I did not get to enjoy my high school years as much because I was in love. There was a lot of influence in drugs lucky I never liked the smell of it but there was one time I got pressured to smoke marijuana in 12th grade I guess so I can fit in and when I tried it that one time I never did it again and I don’t think I will ever do it again. Growing up was a very great experience for me seeing the changes of people and about myself? I ended falling in love with my best friend and he asked me to be his girlfriend at prom night. I felt all these crazy emotions inside me, I felt like I was in a movie
When I hit 18 I had the mentality of and adult wanting to get my future the right way and go to school and get a job.I got along with my parents way more than I used to when I as in highsschool because I thought to myself why not just shut up and let them talk even when they are wrong. Six months after I ended up getting pregnant and that definitely changed my mindset even more to work harder for my son and I. Not everybody that are my age have a kid and have a

lot of responsibility’s to have. They have freedom and get to have fun, traveling and experience things that I won’t be able to till I am a bit older and have my career.
In conclusion I have grown out of stages so fast and so quickly growing up. It is amazing how someone so little can turn out to be someone big in the future and you or nobody ever knows it. I’ve been through a lot in my life from deaths, getting appendix and spider bight surgery’s, being in love, to being sad and being happy, every emotion possible but I managed to get through it. I don’t think I will ever change anything that went on in my life

My Virtual Child

...My Virtual Child Paper My virtual child covers physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development at several age levels. This gave me an opportunity to visualize "the whole child" at various points in development. I raised a virtual child from birth to 18 years of age. Each virtual child has a unique set of characteristics at birth, some of which were influenced by how I answered the assessment I completed when I first logged onto My Virtual Child. These characteristics gradually emerged and affected his behavior and development. My child was a boy so I decided to name him Wolfgang. Wolfgang was born about four weeks premature and underweight (four and a half pounds). To regulate his body temperature, he spent the first few days in neonatal care. After five days, his Apgar score had risen from a six to an eight, which allowed me to bring him home. I was somewhat nervous when I brought him home because Wolfgang was not very hungry and had lost weight. Eventually, he began to eat more and gained weight. My partner and I had decided to breastfeed. I liked breastfeeding because I began to feel a connection hormonally. During toddlerhood, Wolfgang’s language and motor skills developed rapidly. Eventually, he was able to imitate actions and words. He took an interest in his surroundings, causing him to experiment with and study objects. He also started using the word “me” a lot and wanted to perform tasks by himself. He was pretty sociable. He just needed to warm up a...

My Virtual Child

...An essay on my virtual child by Kara Lamb: The gender of my child is male; I named him Nathan after my real life partner. Like my first attempt the program gave us a girl when Nathan was around the age of 3, of which I named Marley. I did not seek outside help for this trial or have help from my real life partner. The application I wanted to focus on was language and how it develops over the time in my virtual child. In early infancy we start to see reflexive cries. An example of this,” Nathan's crying is rhythmic and moderately loud when he is hungry, wet, or cold. If he is startled” (Manis, 2008). Around three months I started to notice Nathan attending to many sounds “Nathan smiles at familiar people and toys, is able to laugh at surprising or funny things” (Manis, 2008). As Nathan is going in ninth month he begins to show Jargon, Gestures and final by twelve months he shows complete Holo Phrases, “nine months old, Nathan began to understand a few words and point to something he wanted. At twelve months old, Nathan now clearly understands a couple of dozen words. In fact, Nathan just recently pronounced his first clear word and pointed at the object in question”. After Nathan second birthday does he only begin to develop telegraphic speech but still struggles to understand simple directions and test below average even into his third year report card; “He scored below average in language comprehension and production” (Manis, 2008). To help with this I chose...

...My Virtual Child, Peyton Basically, this is all about my virtual child, Peyton. That's all I will be talking about in this...I know it's exciting! Thursday, November 27, 2008 Bonus Assignment 1. Are there any issues you had with your parents, your school work, your friends, or your romantic involvements in the last year of high school that continued to be issues for you in college? First of all, don’t all teenagers have issues with their parents? I didn’t have a ton of issues with them as most kids did when I was in high school. My school work has always been pretty consistent with me staying on top of things and doing my homework when I was suppose to. My last year of high school is when I had my first real relationship and that continued into my first year of college, but it was no big thing. I really didn’t have too many issues in high school, I’m not saying that I was perfect, but I was very quiet and I only had one really good friend in high school. The only big issue that I had was I had a tough time having a good work ethic. I started working when I was 16 and let me just say I had terrible work ethics. My parents had to help me come to like to work and appreciate what I was working for. By the time I got into college, this wasn’t a problem anymore. 2. Reflect on your own personality, interests and cognitive abilities at the time you graduated high school. How did these personality characteristics and abilities manifest themselves in subsequent years? How have they...

Personal Narrative: My Virtual Child

...My virtual child’s name is Lawson. He is a male with dark hair, dark eyes, and a light complexion. Looking at Lawson’s personality characteristics, behavioral patterns, and cognitive and social-emotional developmental patterns as an infant, he was very difficult to soothe when upset and was cautious and shy in new situations or with new people. It was rare for him to completely warm up to a new situation or person. He also had very strong emotional reactions and found difficulty soothing himself back down. As Lawson got older, however, some of these characteristics started to diminish. When he was 19 months old and had an assessment done at preschool, Lawson got along really well with the other children at school after he got warmed up to them. The early childhood specialist that observed him even stated that he was unusually cooperative for his age. He was, however, still shy and nervous around new adults at school. He also would occasionally get moody...

Personal Narrative: My Virtual Child

...My Virtual Child I began the program with some certain goals in mind. My idea was to use these as a type of structure on how I wanted to raise my child. I knew first of all that I didn’t want to be a strict parent. I did enforce rules and punish her at times but overall I wanted her to be responsible for her own actions. Also that getting good grades and being active in social life was very important. Lastly that she would play some type of sport or at least be very active. These didn’t have to be set in stone rules for her, however I knew that in real life I would more than likely have preconceived idea of what I would want from my kid. Violet ended up being born almost three works early. She weighted only five pounds and had an Apgar score of six. This made me...

Each virtual child has a unique set of characteristics at birth, some of which were influenced by how I answered the assessment I completed when I first I was asked to create and answer questions about a virtual child. When I was told this was an assignment I thought “this should be easy”. Boy was I wrong! I found many things can affect the outcome of my child. If I am too strict or too easy, the child’s behavior will show this. Over time, this will also affect the child’s temperament. I have learned that some of my classmates’ virtual children are harder to get along with and require more discipline then others. I decided to just trust my instinct and answer the questions as if they were for a real child. In this report you will see how my answers affected my virtual daughter Alexis and, my experience throughout the duration of the assignment. 0-8 MONTHS 1. How does your baby's eating, sleeping and motor development compare to the typical developmental patterns? ~Alexis’s motor skills are typical for her age, crawling, sitting up, and standing up, but not walking yet. Her sleeping habits are normal for her age. Infants normally sleep sixteen-seventeen hours a day. For the first week or so Alexis...

The Harmful Effects Computers and the Internet

...computers and using them as electronic babysitters for their children. They might not see the dangers of this behavior. Everyday children are becoming addicted to computers and the internet the same way a person becomes addicted to drugs. Parents have to take extra care of making sure that their children are safe on and from the computer and the Internet. There are so many dangers that face children in the virtual world. It’s up to the parents to keep the kids safe from those dangers. The Harmful Effects of Computers and the Internet Over the past few years, I have noticed just how dependent my whole family is on technology. Currently in my home we have four computers with internet access, two Microsoft X-Box 360s, a Sony Playstation 2 and a Playstation 3. As a wife and mother, I have to be concerned about what my family is being exposed to. I thought that as long as I spot checked what my children were doing, that they would be okay. I had mistakenly believed that my children would understand the rights and wrongs of the Internet. One day I discovered my then nine-year-old son watching pornography on the computer. I was horrified and quickly ground him. After his punishment was over, I permitted him to get back on; again he went back to the porn. His doctor was the one who told me about computer addiction and said that I had to get a handle on this. At first I wondered how he could become...

Organizational Behavior Analysis

...Running head: ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS Organizational Behavior Analysis for Week -6 Final Ashford University Organizational Behavior BUS 610 Organizational Behavior Analysis for Week -6 Final I will be talking about my current job as a Child Protective Investigator (CPI) also known as Child Protective Services (or CPS). This is the governmental agency that is tasked with investigating child abuse or neglect. The primary concern of a CPI is the safety of the child; they do this by assessing the risk involved. By weighing that risk the CPI has to make the decision rather to remove the children or child from the home or place services within the home that will allow them to function as a family in a more productive manner. Once the CPI has made the decision to remove the child or children, the next step in the process is find and create a plan that will eventually return the child to a more proficient and safer family environment. The CPI will assign the family to a caseworker who is tasked with developing a plan to administer to the parents that will educate them on better ways to care for the children and meet all their needs, and create and environment free from abuse or neglect. Vritual Life

...My Virtual Life My virtual child covers physical, social and emotional and cognitive development at various ages. This gave me the chance to imagine many stages in a child’s development. Each child has a unique set of characteristics based on his/her parent’s personalities. At the beginning you are required to answer a series of questions which will determine the outcome of your child’s personality. My child was a girl I decided to name her Jordyn. At birth as a parent I had high blood pressure, premature dilation of the cervix, and I also had to go on maternity leave early. I remained in the bed for the last two months of the pregnancy. The Doctors decided to induce labor early and Jordyn was born three weeks early. I noticed that Jordyn seemed to be restless and uncomfortable and sometimes cries more than most newborns However three weeks after birth Jordy began to gain weight. My partner and I also decided to breastfeed. During toddlerhood, Jordyn’s speaking and motor skills developed at a very swift pace. Very soon she was able to mock and repeat a lot of the things that I did and said. She began to take a lot of interest in her surroundings, making her want to use and experiment with different things in her small environment. She also became very independent around age two and wanted to do things on her own such as play sports and even dribble a ball. Even though she still remained shy around people and didn’t like to socialize with many people she was still active...

...Women in art- A virtual tour Short Report 8 I decided to take a virtual tour of women in Ancient art. Women played a key role in history and it is very evidence in the artwork we have seen so far in class. Although I was unhappy with not being able to visit a museum in person, this assignment was still very educational and personal. I was on a mini vacation right in my own house. The Venus of Willendorf. My first stop was a look at the Venus of Willendorf. She is a statue of a woman about 4.3 inches tall. She was found in 1908. She is a Paleolithic figurine made from carved ivory, wood, and stone. She is the most famous of the Venus figurine during her time. At first glance you see a woman with features that are not pleasing to the eye. She has large breasts, large thighs, and a large stomach. She obviously is pregnant. She has no feet and her face is distorted. I think the face was distorted because they were symbols of fertility or mother goddess not necessary a human. Pregnant women today could defiantly relate to how she looks because most pregnant women may see themselves this way. The Venus of Willendorf was founded in lower Australia. One theory is these statues were meant to be carried. This could explain why archeologist believed where she was found was not the same place she was carved. The women during this period were just not cavewomen. They were inventors, religious leaders, and very good hunters. http://witcombe.sbc.edu/willendorf/willendorfname.html ...
