For my student, I have chosen to create a phonetic flip chart. He or she will create their own flip chart so that they can have the opportunity to practice while putting it together. As they flip up different tabs on the chart, they will see that they’ve created a new word from our list. This would be a really great tool in working with my emergent reader on the -um word family as well.

I have also come up with another method of creating an organizer to help teach my student these words. The organizer I have created is pretty much just like a concept map. The word family, in this case um, goes right in the center of the page. From the center, I have provided pictures that surround the -um family, some that contain -um and some that do not. The student will be asked to color every picture of a -um sound and draw lines from them to the circle in the middle. This helps the student become more familiar with how to recognize the words we have learned while also recognizing words that do not pertain to the -um family.
The following text sample was created with the help of my student. He chose not to use all of the words in our word family, however he came up with a really great story;

Why So Glum, Chum? Why are you looking so glum, chum? I’m having trouble finding the sum! Why are you looking so glum, chum? I can’t get rid of this bubble gum! Why aren’t you looking glum, chum? I know how to play the drum! Why aren’t you looking

Family Name Chitmankwanyuen First Name Sakorn (Paul) Group 12 Word Count 341 Words Task : Which Techniques Do You Think Are the Most Useful When Learning a Foreign Language? in My Opinion, Learning Foreign

...In my opinion, learning foreign languages is extremely difficult because there are many countries which have their own languages and also have different in their social culture. People who try to learn foreign languages suppose to practice as much as they can by using some techniques for supporting what the best they can do. They need to concentrate in all skill of communications which are reading, writing, listening and speaking. However the techniques from my suggestion are very simply for everyone. Firstly, the learners should try to stop thinking in own language. People who want to be rapidly improve should be awareness because when they are not realize in their own language, the only way they could do is imagine in foreign language that they need to practice. Therefore, they will automatically speak in foreign language. This is very simple technique even though it is slightly difficult when the lesson has been started in first month. Secondly, travelling around the country which uses the language they want to learn. This technique is very useful for practicing in speaking and listening skills. People around the country could help learners to improve. However, the crucial point that must be concerned for this technique is the travelling should have by themselves (or only with their foreign friend) otherwise they could not receive an advantage from this practice lesson due to their friends who try to interrupt them by their own language. Finally, reading many books...

Sample Essay on What Is Your Favorite Word and Why

...The Word “Family” Name Institution The Word “Family” Introduction My favorite word is family. The word family defines the existence of human beings in the society. A family is defined to be a group of people that is made up of parents and children living in a similar household (Brighouse & Swift, 2014). In most instances, a family is made up of parents and their biological children. The parents are a father and mother. Nonetheless, a family can be made up of a single parent with either adopted or biological children. Instances of single parenthood can occur because of a death of the other parent or a divorce. The word family stands out as my favorite word because of the following three reasons. At the outset, the word family stands out as an incomparable word because it highlights the fundamental unit of human society. A family unit made up of a man, woman and children living together in peace and harmony is a construct of societal organization. The presence of a peaceful and harmonious relationship confers intellectual, sexual, social and emotional stability to one another. A member of the family can readily rely on the other member in terms of emotional, intellectual, social and sexual relationship. As a result, the individual family is a reflection of the society that mainly depends on the stability of the family for its existence (Brighouse & Swift, 2014). Secondly, the word family stands out to be my favorite word because it upholds...

What Is Family?

...What is Family?             When most people hear the word family, mother, father, children, and relatives immediately come to mind. This is how a family would be defined, but the word "family" can also be alive, in action.  Family can also be related by blood, and also can be an acting part of family because they're united.            The word family may have a different meaning to all of us. To me, it is those around me who love and support me and will always stand by my side. My friends are who make up most of my family. They have been there for me through thick and thin and would not trade any of them for the world. I have formed bonds with them that will last a lifetime.  I know I can call any of them up and they will be there at a drop of a hat.  For example, I needed help cleaning my garage out last summer and they all volunteered to help. So in return for their helping hands we grilled out that night and I provided all food and beverages.         Although my friends are not related to me by blood, they are still considered very much so a part of my family. Almost every aspect of our lives involves the term family. Even in some religions they are considered a "family" of believers. One person unites our country as a "family" whom we all look towards for guidance. While these examples might be accepted by society today, it only describes family in broad terms. Family love is much deeper than all of that and is the love you share with friends and relatives.  Every...

An Event Which Change My Life

...An Event Which Change My Life Life indeed is a stage…… Do you knew someone’s life could be changed in bits outside the way and lifestyle that exist in one’s family?, My only imagination was whatever lifestyle that exist in my family everyone must follow suit, but I guess my notion was wrong after attending a church conference and thereafter receiving a special gift from one of the speaker. This gift, as an artifact, changed my life, and made me fully understand that one’s lifestyle can be changed towards that which tickles ones fancy and makes one stand out a unique person among family, friends and the World at large. Born of goodly parents, I learned the way of life, the purpose of my existence and what I need to do to find increased happiness in this mortal existence. In my youthful age, in the year 1990, the 14th day of April, I attended a church conference where I listened to the speakers; one of the speakers, Mr. John Walker, spoke on the topic “Christ- Centered Life” and the other, Mr. Smith, spoke on “Marriage and Family-Ordained of God”, that which caught my fancy. Christ-Centered Life: Mr. Walker who gave the talk on Christ-Centered Life quoted the words of President Benson, Having dedicated his life to serving the Lord, President Benson spoke with power and conviction when he shared the following testimony: “I testify to you that there is no greater, more thrilling, and more soul ennobling challenge than to try to learn of Christ and walk in His steps. Our model...

Focm Reflection Paper

...i  Introductio My dad always told me when it came to priorities, that it was always supposed to be God, family, then everything else. Now that I do have girlfriend, whom I am happily in a very serious relationship with, my dad says my priorities should be: 1st God, 2nd my girlfriend and family, 3rd should be whatever else I value. This reflects the balance that pastors must deal with on a daily basis, how to deal with a ministry while maintaining a healthy family life. My dad taught me exactly what pastors must do when they prioritize, to put God as number one, then focus on your family, and finally the church ministry. Keeping Priorities In Check There have been many cases where the pastor puts the ministry as number one on their list, then God, and then their families. An instance would be that they feel that God gave them their calling, they follow it, but they forget to keep a daily devotional life with the One who gave them the calling. But this isn’t the correct way to set one’s priorities. Although a pastor may justify himself in that the ministry was his calling, I don’t believe that is the way God called us to conduct our lives. Yes, saving lives and bringing people over to Christ is a very important issue, and a noble cause, but what good is it to win the whole world yet loses one’s sole? A better example would be, to win the whole but lose one’s family. Some people may even put God number one, ministry number two, and family at third place. ...

Anti Bias

...Early childhood children can identify different color, language, gender, and physical. Children watch the how people are different and yet the same. They understand their native language and recognizes the differences of another language. An anti-bias curriculum help children to embrace as teachers nurture the development of each child’s ability respect issues of diversity and be fear in the classroom. Teachers can create an Anti-bias classroom and the classroom environment should be Multicultural friendly that implement the education which have an active approach to challenge all prejudices, stereotypes or bias. In my opinion an Anti-Bias education is relevant because it reflects on education as a whole that is not based on if people are comfortable with the topics. Educators should have a specific goal for children and give them a clear cut educational experience. It explains how teachers should allow children to talk about what is going on in their world. Even in preschool children are expose to racism and prejudice, by implementing an Anti-bias curriculum children will have an opportunity to defect discrimination. For example, a child told another child that she do not want to play with her because the other child hair wasn’t done. This situation needed to be address right away because you would not want the any child to feel bad about him or herself, because the other children do not want to play with them. Personal Ethics Statement

...Statement What does living ethically mean to me? When I think of my answer to this question, two words come to mind immediately; integrity and honesty. Those two are followed quickly by fairness, respect and responsibility. These five words make up my core values and by parallel my personal ethics. Words I do my best to represent and live up to each and every day. Responsibility - Who am I? I am a daughter, sister, niece, aunt, friend, associate and leader. Within my family roles, I feel I have an obligation to be there for my family and set an example for my nieces and nephews. Helping them grow into the best people they can be by sharing my beliefs and principles with them. At work, I have accountability to my employer to keep the enterprise’s best interest in mind with each decision I make with regard to access to our data and functions within the systems. Fairness - I grew up in a family where fairness was a very important value. There were five children in our family and while sometimes one of us would have an opportunity to do or have something, there was always a turn in the future for another sibling. Within my work life, my sense of fairness can sometimes negatively affect me. I feel you need to give 110% to your employer and have an obligation to complete things on time. There have been times where I have worked with others that do not have the same work ethic. While not the right thing to do in my mind, I need to be careful not to be resentful of others who...

...Your Family Blood Ties Goutier 1 Your Family Blood Ties What Ties Me to Me? Ginette Goutier Professor Vance Psychology 231 C 20 February 2013 What Ties Me to Me? Goutier 2 Abstract This paper will address whether characteristics, traits, and talents are genetically passed down to offspring; are they each the colored individual pieces that make up a puzzle? Or are they something more like the blended elements that fuse together to make a cake; something there with purpose but not really enjoyed until after the hard work is done. Poetry is an art form. It can be used as a method to relate and inspire others, or it can be used as an outlet for words unspoken. Poetry is not something that can be learned, it is something that can only be felt, put together, and solidified. The branches of poetry run deep in my family’s roots. I have cousins who write short stories for play to be used in Holiday Cards, and other’s who use their words to uplift the spirits of the saddened and hopeless. My cousin Rain Eerili, and my aunt Moon Ilis are both favored poets in our family. Each possess a wide range of talents and gifts but each have an uncommon background. One has a parental figure, who also wrote poetry, and the other grew up with no role model or interest in poetry, yet she writes with a style so unique to people of her age group. Raw talent is in everyone, whether it is genetically engineered or ignited through practice and dedication. Your Family Blood...

...I want to first of all extend my gratitude to all the family, friends, and attendees who have come today to honor this wonderful man, Raymond Woodrow Sheffield, a true legend, a person we have all come to love and cherish for many years. The amount of people who have come today to pay their last respects is only a testimony to the lives he personally touched. There are no amount of words that could ever fill this page or enough words in my heart to describe one of the greatest men I have ever known. A true legend has ended; however, his legacy will live on in each of us from this day forward. All of us have known him in a variety of roles: father, husband, uncle, cousin, grandpa, mentor and great friend, I have been privileged to know him as my grandfather. It is within this context I shall speak from and share of the greatness of this man. Today my mind goes back to listening to my Grandpa tell of his many lifelong stories, stories of growing up, stories of serving in the military, and stories of meeting my precious grandmother who he loved so dearly. Standing here I can almost feel that familiar embrace. Grandpa spent countless and I mean countless hours telling me about his family and their kin and their friends, reaching into the past and bringing it forward into the present day. I did not know why it was so important to him that I know all of this. But I think I understand part of it now. Your family is more than a historical context. It shapes you and colors...

This I Believe Essay

...June 4, 2014 Family Should Come First Most of my earliest memories do not have my biological father in them, even though he lived less than a 5 minute walk away. I grew up in what is now considered to be a "broken home" environment. Back in the seventies I lived in a trailer court with my mom and her new husband, the infamous step-dad. During this time, my ‘real' dad was moving on with his life as well, living with his new wife only three streets away. It was uncommon for him to call or come over to spend time with me, but being so young it didn’t really matter at the time. As the holidays started to fly by my stepfather began to notice that my dad was no longer showing an interest in my life. My real dad had even stopped asking me what I wanted for Christmas, and started sending money to my mom to go buy me a gift from him. Needless to say this was the last straw in my stepfathers’ eyes. What he did next, I’ll never forget. He waited for my ‘dad’ to drop off the "present money" and confronted him on the front porch. Even though I was in the living room area with my mom, I still heard this man, my 'step-dad’ stand up to my real father and tell him that “Jason doesn’t need your money. What he needs is his dad to take an interest in him, get more involved with his life and show him that family is always there for each other no matter what”. My dad became silent. I think he knew there was a lot of truth to my stepfathers’ words. What surprised...

...This is an essay about nothing. I have to write 250 words to be a member to get one lousy answer to a question. Unfortunately I have only written 29 words now. Today my daughter placed 2nd place in a basketball tournament. It was easily the highlight of Thanksgiving break for our family. The other parents were pretty much assholes, yelling at the referees and carrying on like typical bad sports parents. Everyone gets upset because the refs clal their kids for fouls, but that’s how the game is played. When facing a better basketball team, you can’t overcome them with fouls. You must play clean, hard basketball. It is truly necessary for success. Unfortuantely, I am only at 119 words still! Oh my gosh, writing 250 words is way harder than I thought it would be. Right now my daughter is watching youtube videos. I hope they’re appropriate. We just ate dinner, and are sitting as a family watching television. We are also waiting for my father to come visit. We love it when he visits us, because we really think that family is of utmost importance. I’ve almost hit the 200 word mark! Only fifty five more lousy words to type on this new laptop that I bought a few weeks ago. I should be working on my case study right now, but after a break for Thanksgiving, it is proving harder to remember what in the world I am supposed to be doing. I am almost there....

Personal Reflective Essay English 101

...Association "You have cancer" are words that no one ever wants to have to hear. For the year, 2013 my community had 1057 new cases of cancer and 425 from cancer (Bolick 2014). In 2013 my community came together to create a local place for cancer patients, survivors, and their families known as the Anderson Cancer Association (ACA). The Anderson Cancer Association is important to me because I have seen firsthand how cancer affects the lives of others including my grandmother’s, know the organization’s revenue stays locally in Anderson, and have seen them cover the cost of items not covered by my grandmother’s insurance. Seeing firsthand how this organization works to better the lives of those in our community is amazing. I have always been active in planning events for the Anderson Cancer Association since I was in high school. My high school English teacher introduced me to the organization when our school was doing a fundraiser. I became dedicated to helping fight the fight. No matter what the needs of the patients or their families we did not mind sacrificing time because we all were making an enormous impact. The greatest part of it all was that it was made possible by our local community funding. I would see people that I knew come in for financial assistance, information on what to expect during treatments, or even just a simple hug and words of encouragement. I was always there doing my part supporting anyone who came in. I remember one of my local high school teachers coming...
