...Over the years my experience and improvement in writing has cultivated me into a person I believe would prosper in the Humanities program. The ability to write well and in a way that is coherent to those reading your work is an important skill no matter what field. As I interact with my fellow students I make sure to be an effective critic and listener. This would not only help my peers work but my own writing as well as I am paying attention to techniques as well as errors. As I am interacting with classmates as well as working on my own separate assignment I am improving my oral and written communication. The ability to explicitly explain and express yourself is a prerequisite of every subject in school as well as the outside world. However...

...Writing is a major part of any career. As a Health Science major, I did not realize how big of a role reading, writing and communicating plays in the health sciences field until I start taking my degree specific classes. ...Abstract In my case analysis I write about my overall assessment of my management communication style. I identify areas for improvement while providing a plan to remedy each area. In my paper I label myself an assertive communicator, whether I am speaking or writing I try to express information clearly, appropriately and respectively. I go on to write about my process of improvement, and also how I can change my style. In my process of improvement I also plan to do a lot of brainstorming before writing or speaking, another process of improvement will be blogging. By blogging I can see what I am doing wrong and work on my deficiencies. MANAGEMENT COMMUNICATIONS ASSESSMENT AND IMPROVEMENT PLAN I would label my management communication style as being assertive. I can usually relay my message quite well, and I try to always develop a plan on how to relay my message without being over bearing. I also try to be very consistent when making my points and getting them across. How, where and when I choose to comment is more important to me than what I am saying. When communicating I like to maintain eye contact, keep good body posture, gestures and keep the level of my voice to a minimum. My communication style is far from perfect, I can improve on being more effective, and adjusting my writing style. Being more effective, sometimes I don’t know what to say, or even how to effectively relay the message. My plan to remedy this area in the future...

...Writing 101: My Trials and Tribulations Writing 101 As my first English college course nears its end, I can’t help but be proud of the minor yet significant improvements I have made throughout the last eight weeks. I enrolled in WRTG 101S to meet my general education requirements, but also to refresh my reading and writing skills, as it provides the foundation for most other college courses. When I began WRTG 101S, I was uneasy with the quality of my research, formatting, and writing; now I am confident in my ability to produce well-written literature. Over the past eight weeks, I have learned much about the writing process and the importance of prewriting, writing, and revising to ensure a quality end product. Since being introduced to college writing and the writing process during a conference assignment in week one, I have applied these skills to all of my writing projects, which have yielded successful results. These steps allow me to progress through any writing assignment in an organized and efficient manner. This process was especially helpful in the cause and effect essay. This was the first essay I had completed in 10 years, since graduating high school. I was very anxious and nervous about the assignment since I had not written academic pieces in quite some time. Honestly, I still become anxious when approached with any type of writing assignment. This is due to my desire to excel in all that I encounter. I now, however, feel more at ease in knowing that I have specific...

...At the beginning of course English Composition 1, I received grades that were below 90% on each of my writing assignments. However, toward the end of this semester, I turned that around and worked to get better grades. I looked over all the comments that I received on my writing assignments and then I tried to fix those mistakes. My hard work paid off and I began to earn grades in the 90s, and grades that were above 100%. Throughout this semester, I have improved my writing skills and applied those skills to improve my grade in this course, which turned from 81% to 95%. On my first essay that was about self-identification, I earned myself 85%, which was very much unsatisfactory. There were many flaws in my essay that earned me a disappointing...

...Throughout the course of the first nine weeks in Mrs. Theisen's AP English Language and Composition class, my writing has changed dramatically. Towards the start of the year my writing was very weak, yet it has improved towards the start of the second nine weeks. My writing began in this class with bad thesis statements, weak transitions, awkward grammar, and lack of relevant evidence. My writing skills at the beginning of this class started in a rough spot. There are a plethora of examples of how weak my writing was at the beginning of the nine weeks. To begin, my thesis sentences lacked relevance and contained bad grammar - if I had a thesis sentence to begin with. In the very beginning of the year I had no thesis statements in my papers,...

...My first year of university has proved to be a large platform for apprenticeship and progress. Through various projects and presentations, individual or group ones, and even more through feedback on my work, I managed to develop my academic and personal skills both as an independent learner, but also as a member of formal or informal groups. Having been assigned tasks such as literature reviews, research essays or reflective essays, all of them involving either an oral or written presentation, I employed a range of skills that could not have found a better environment to develop in; critical thinking, working with others and time management are just few examples. Aside from measuring our ability and understanding of the assigned task, evaluation allows us to progress on things we are performing well on and adjust our weaknesses. According to Marshall and Rowland (1998), evaluation can be performed by ourselves, assessing and judging our work in a subjective manner or by others. However, the drawback of being our own assessors is the risk of being accused of bias. Therefore, acknowledging the feedback received on my work has been a significant factor for the development of my skills. It not only helped me better identify my strengths and weaknesses, but also gave me self-confidence and enthusiasm, two key factors for a continual improvement of one's self. The module I have undertaken in the second term, Personal Skills for Business Management Students, has undoubtedly drawn my...

...Writing Analysis Essay Throughout my childhood and until the present day, I have always been told by my parents, teachers, coaches and others that practice makes perfect. As my knowledge broadened, I thought to myself, perfect is impossible to be because humans are engineered to have flaws. No matter how many times one does something over and over again, whether it is shooting free throws until all are made, or writing fifteen outlines until points are stronger, one can only make progress. There will always be space for improvement in any category in life. Writing is no exception, and compared to my writing when I first started college, my work has definitely improved. Although I know I need more work, my organization, development, syntax, mechanics and cognition of my writing has escalated to a level that I did not know I was capable of. Essay outlines was never a priority of mine, but once I began to take the time to write it, my topic sentences and coherence within the paragraphs made more sense to the reader and myself. On the first paper that was graded, “Is College Worth It?”, I received no credit due to the lack of organization and development. At first, I thought I would at least earn a passing grade but once I read the “NC” (no credit) on my grade sheet, I was discouraged and disappointed in myself. I knew I had to state my opinion on my topic sentence, yet I did not do it. For instance, in that same essay, my topic sentence was a fact, “…there are college graduates...

...As my junior year winds down, the final chapter of my book is about to unravel: senior year. However, before I start exploring my horizons, which is going to be filled with new opportunities and memories to be made, it’s best to reflect on my experience in AP Language and Composition with Mrs.Miles throughout junior year. These past 8 months were filled with enlightening experiences. From the discussions and articles of the week to the countless essays we had to write. I believe that Mrs.Miles really focused on our writing skills, which I am awfully grateful that she did. Mrs.Miles has assisted in my growth in writing; as my grammar has improved, including the use of commas, colons, and semicolons. In fact, I am now knowledgeable of the fact...

...My observations of this course and the assignments given have shown me a huge difference in how I started to where I currently am. I have improved my style of writing and the way that I edit my papers. I also noticed that my thesis statements have become more impactful, straight to the point, and easily convey the topic of my entire paper. In my WRT 101 class, my professor said he noticed that my thesis statements have gotten better and I have more supporting details for my argument. I received an A on my last two papers in his class and my overall grade has increased since then. This class is also really helpful to the World Civilization class, however, I think it would be even more beneficial to the class if the study sessions were more organized for the midterm and the final. Despite this, I do not believe it is the staff's fault but more the students because they don’t realize the importance of the help until it is too late....

...Senior Writing Project-Reflective Essay As I look back at the writings I have created in these past few years, I realize that other than my junior year, I haven't written any narrative pieces, in any classes. The focus throughout my high school curriculum has been toward argumentative, analysis, and informative writings. Only in my junior year did I write my first creative writings in the form of a short story and a poem. The first creative writing I had to write a "Vomit" Draft. A vomit draft was the very first draft of a paper with little to no guidelines. "Bring two minutes to life" was the only instruction. We had to throw down 500 words without paying any real attention to punctuation or grammar. This kind of freedom associated with such creative writing was an alien concept to me. Getting used to writing without a structure that we had to follow, without a set of guidelines we had to abide by took a while. But, this kind of writing really helped me learn and improve, not just my writings, my organization and my time management skills as well. Knowing that I had to write such a demanding paper (it turned out to be fourteen pages longs), I had to improve my time management skills, which, up till junior year, hadn’t really been a challenge. Forcing myself then, to distribute time wisely has really helped me now, with the terrific pressures and burdens of college applications. This creative writing segment in my junior year helped my prepare, in a way, for these college...

...Thesis: John Amagoalik inspires you throughout his whole speech to dream, and no matter how big the obstacle if you want it you should challenge it and go after what you want. Throughout all the obstacles he has gone through watching his culture disappear, he is not giving up on it and is staying positive. By being this way it is impacting his life in a positive way. Support- The support I used for my thesis was from the speech, I used the author’s ideas and point of view throughout his writing to come up with and support my thesis, as well as the body paragraphs. I didn’t use anything very specific but the support I used was based of the author’s point of view. Overall my thesis was not written well it needs to be more cohesive with the...

...WRITER At the beginning of my English 111 class, I was unsure of my writing skills for college, thus English 111, which is a writing class, was intimidating to me. I had been out of school for over thirty years, and my memory of my writing in high school is not so clear. So at the beginning of the year, Dr. Kennedy asked us what we wanted to get of our class this semester. It was not hard for me to say I wanted to improve my writing skills. The skills I learned in English helped me improve my writing in other classes as well. Learning how to take notes with the double entry journal and Kia styles were a big help in my psychology and art history classes. Accordingly, the MEAL plan was a big help with getting...

...I failed to include a detailed response on how I will improve my academic writing this semester in my academic writing improvement plan. When reading the feedback I discovered how my writing was limited and how I was not providing adequate information, I decided to use this feedback from my tutor and progress through the semester on improving my paragraph structure and apposite information. This semester I have edited my writing multiple times and this has allowed me to discover mishaps that I turned s blind eye to. In comparison to the feedback I received on the second assessment, it was evident that my writing had improved quite a lot and was of a higher standard. . I use a computer daily in formal and informal ways. At home I use it...
