I agree that the time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time because when you are enjoying yourself you have no time to waste you are enjoying yourself and that to most is wasting time when you could be reading or working on something when you can finish most of those things later on in the day because enjoy yourself while you still can before you have to go do something for school or work. Sometimes people take time for granted and think that time can wait for you when you and time goes faster than most think.

I believe we shouldn't bring dinosaurs back. I think that they would remove the population and they might knock down all of the land we have covered with houses and landmarks. The dinosaurs might take out our crops that are a necessity for living and could take out water sources and would take out all the major industries. The main factor of it all is that the dinosaurs most likely would take out our necessities for living and would take us with it.

...writes big pieces of writing. I’ve never given it much thought before and I don’t think I’ll ever exactly know unless I do some research. Some could say that the mere act of writing is what makes a person an author. If I am to be considered an author for the fact that I have written a few essays, then that’s great but I really don’t feel like I should be given that title. In my own standards and from what I’ve been reflecting upon, authors are people who are known for their writing and whose writing is aimed to be read by many. Hence, I do not consider myself an author for the reason that my writing does not seem at the level of an author and I don’t write for other people to read....

My Writing In The Ap Style

...Over the past year in journalism class I have fallen in love with The Tribe. When I first signed up I did not know what to expect and had no idea how to write in the AP style, but I quickly learned. Having had a passion for writing, I signed up and hoped for the best. However, my bargain paid off because I have never enjoyed a class more and have learned so much. Since then I have met some of the current staff on field trips and even dancing in front of the entire school. Even in these few hours I have spent with them they have helped me more than they know. I slowly broke out of my shell and became more confident in my writing and in general. I want to do that for other journalism students. It was a thrill to make it into the first issue...

How Writing Styles Affect My Writing

...“It looks like a cockroach covered in ink ran across your page,” my mother often teased in Bengali. The number of times I have been patronized for my horrific handwriting is unfathomable. Teachers saw grading my essays as more of a punishment than their obligation. “It’s not my fault!” I exclaimed. “My parents made me switch from my left hand to my right hand when I was in the first grade!” However, no matter how often I constantly explained to my elementary school teachers, they did not care. Psychologically, they destroyed my self esteem in writing from an early age. How can I or anyone write under the impression no one is going to read it? The sad truth is, the quality of my handwriting affected my grades on personal narratives and essays. The worse the quality of my handwriting, the lower my grade would be....

Comprehensive Grammar Answer Form

...most of my writing has been APA style writing. In fact, the three universities that I have attended in the past have all required me to use the APA style of writing. As I recall my high school years, the APA style of writing also seemed to be a favorite amongst my high school teachers. They all required that term papers be written in APA style as well. This type of writing actually does not differ much from the ones included in the text reading. The text mentioned the APA style of writing several times. In my opinion, it appears to be the most popular style of writing, especially amongst college students. Based on the results of the quizzes, my grammar skills were actually a little better than average. I actually had expected to do better, but I guess my grammar skills are not as good as I thought they were. In any event I feel very confident when it comes to spelling, as I have always been a great speller. Even in grade school, I was a good speller. I learned at a very young age to challenge myself when it comes to spelling. Challenging my-self in that area really paid off as I became older, as I’ve never had a problem with spelling. However, I feel that I need more help with run on sentences and with thought patterns. Though I proof read my paper several times, it’s hard for me to see that I have several run on sentences until after I get my grade back. In general, I feel that my writing is just mediocre. However, I also believe that when it comes to writing, I am...

Shitty First Draft Analysis

...Bird (1994), where she argues to let go of the anxieties and fears of creating a masterpiece paper right away by simply writing without question in order to get all of your thoughts out first. She refers to this style of writing to one of a child’s while also reminding the reader to just freely write knowing that no one else will be seeing this initial draft. It’s clear Lamott wants to connect with her readers and help ease any worries when it comes to writing because even the most popular and well known journalists or authors all go through the same thoughts and process as well. Her style of writing shows she is intending this piece for students or anyone involved in writing, whether for school, career, or a hobby. I find Lamott’s argument very persuasive and was moved by her style and dictation. It is comforting to know that...

...Writing Styles Pauline Gilmore June 20, 2011 EDU 623 Dr. Norman Rose My writing style has been describe by my family and friends as middle school level. I have tried very hard to work on it. It has been one of the reasons it took me so long to pursue my graduate degree. I knew my writing was not up to par for a graduate student. I tend to write the way I speak and my grammar is worst than my eight year old sons. I can use the fact that english is not my first language, but I honestly think, I have been so used to speaking and writing in slang so much it is hard for me not to now. I knew I had to start correcting myself and be more mindful of my grammar and language once I started teaching. It is still a work in progress, I try to usually keep my messages to the parents short and simple. I also write in cursive, that way when I misspell a word it is harder to see. My research skills has not been any better. I am still learning how to cite my citations. I cannot tell the difference between MLA and APA format. I tend to have a hard time putting what I need into my own words and summarizing. I do not like writing papers, but it is unavoidable in graduate school. After reviewing the research guides and completing the avoiding plagiarism tutorial I now have a little bit of a guide to follow. My strength has always been my ability to take notes. I love to write, I tend to have a hard time summarizing, so I write everything done. When I am doing a research...

Analyze the Process of Team Writing

...Writing a paper either individually or in a group, there are many things to consider other than just the writing itself. Selecting a topic to write about is different by yourself as opposed to a group. When writing alone, you don't have anyone else to contend with, so the choices are easier to make. However, you may not have as many options as you would working in a group, many people working together will come up with a much larger range of topics. Either way has its benefits as well as its problems. Having more topics to pick from will give any paper a much richer material base to pool from, but at the same time having to deal with many people means that things may not always go smoothly, as some members of the group may not see eye to eye on every topic. On the other side of that, one person writing a paper will have fewer problems picking a topic, but at the same time will not have as many to choose from as someone working in a group. One thing both ways of writing a paper have in common is that you still have to pick one subject to work with, regardless of how many people are working on the paper. And depending on the subject that you have to work with, a group or individual may come to the same conclusion in a short amount of time. When writing in a group, it can be more difficult to edit work as more than one person is writing it. When you write by yourself, the revisions can be a bit easier as you can have a better vision of the finished product as well as the fact that...

Reflection Vs Reflection

...There are plenty of moments that I can think about where reading or writing or a situation involving the two have changed my life. However, one time that sticks out to me vividly is when my teacher analyzed my essay in front of the class. I always thought I was a great writer , but when I got papers back with the grades I didn’t want, I was confused. It felt like all my hard work was never good enough. At first I thought that getting your essay read and critiqued by everyone in the class was pointless and insignificant. After we had finished I realized that some benefits had came out of the class critique session. Back when I was in IB English class the teacher used to give us grammar warm ups everyday. One day she decided to change our...

Samuola Work

...By examining different social groups in economic, political and religious contexts, the effects on human attitudes, actions and opportunities can be discovered. With the understanding of sociology in mind I expect the academic literacy workload for sociology to require a lot of reading and writing. Examining human behavior demands a lot of analyzing and research. When analyzing a text it is expected that the author reasoning will be looked for. To fully comprehend a text when reading one must take good notes, summarize and/or paraphrase the main idea. A sociology course requires a lot of precise thinking and reflection. By doing so the text is questioned and allows thoughts about personal emotions and affects as well as whether it connects text to text, self or world or another text. In an informal discussion with an upperclassman in philosophy, I was told that there will be two types of assigned papers study and theory. A thesis is needed when writing a theory paper. Theory papers tend to have readers think and evaluate them critically and address the issue of how and why. A study paper will consist of a hypothesis, research process and results. There will be different writing styles for these papers including APA and MLA. Citing information using APA format is used for research reports and empirical studies. MLA is the most commonly used citation method for general essays. I interviewed Professor Heather Donavan, who teaches a sociology 101 class...

...Experiences for writing were fun when younger, became a little more challenging, as I became older and completely changed in the work place. Took classes on writing strategically and technical writing for my career as a Business Analyst. This class taught me to unlearn everything we were taught in school. When we were younger we were taught to write compositions with a minimum of 500 hundred words, as an example. Then you are told to write with lots of fluff in the story. When taking the course for technical writing, we are to cut out any fluff and get right to the point, very minimal sentences. It seemed that sometimes the grammar didn’t make sense but to them it’s a document to be written for instructional purposes. There are so many other different writing styles that I’m not sure if it’s correct. I have read novels and it makes me scratch my head and question is this proper grammar. I have to “assume” that is, because how would they publish this novel if it weren’t. An example, is the novel “The Help” the book was written as the way they spoke down south, but when I’m when writing, it seemed that my writing was choppy and only with half of my thoughts. Now when it comes to writing I guess I second guess myself as to what is the right way in writing. But I realize it is the audience that I need to realize to whom I’m writing to. I have to say it is two complete different writing styles. I don’t...

...assigned multiple writing assignments that have challenged my writing skills. I have found that as a writer, few of the strengths that I have are providing good supporting ideas of a paper and formatting of a paper. I have a keen knowledge of what each topic of a paper is about and how to support the points that I have chosen to write about. I am also knowledgeable on how the papers should be formatted from GCU style to APA style. However, some of my challenges are that I type how I talk which causes me to have more than a few grammatical errors. I also have a tendency to write papers that are unorganized and that causes a reader to lose track of what my papers are about.  Based on the feedback I have received the areas that I will need the most improvement in are grammatical errors, mechanical errors and organization of my papers. So far, I have taken a few steps to help improve my writing skills. One step that I have taken is I use different colleagues to proofread my work before submitting it. Another step I have taken to improve my writing skills is I practice using the Student Success Center. The Student Success Center provides me with many tools that has helped me improve my writing a little more each time. In my past academics I have written a number of papers and essays. I have written many narrative, persuasive, description and exposition papers. My favorite type of writing is description because it is like poetry to me. I love writing poetry to clear my mind or to express...

Reflection

...1 Reflection Reflection is an everyday process. We reflect on a range of everyday problems and situations all the time: What went well? What didn’t? Why? How do I feel about it? We don’t usually follow a formula for this, it just happens as feelings, thoughts and emotions about something gradually ‘surface’. We might choose to do something differently, or not, as a result of reflecting, but reflection is essentially a kind of loose processing of thoughts and feelings about an incident, a meeting, a day – any event or experience at all. Reflection can be a more structured way of processing in order to deal with a problem. This type of reflection may take place when we have had time to stand back from something, or talk it through, as in: ‘On reflection, I think you might be right’, or ‘On second thoughts, I realised he was more upset than me.’ Structured reflection If we consciously reflect, maybe as part of our work or family role, there tends to be a rough process of ‘How did it go? What went well? Why? What didn’t? Why? What next?’ Examples might be of a football coach reflecting after a match, a teacher reflecting on a lesson, or simply a parent thinking about how best to deal with a teenager. In this kind of reflection, the aim is to look carefully at what happened, sort out what is really going on and explore in depth, in order to improve, or change something for next time. This brief guide will look at what is meant by reflection, suggest forms of structured...
