The Myers-Briggs Personality Test is tool that helps analyze the make up of your personality. It analyzes how you interact with people, interpret data, make decisions, how we carry out those decisions. This paper is a commentary revealing my results and how the results understand my personality. I will also give my take on the results and what I have learned about organizational behavior that can help me at work, church, and home. Step 1: Results of Meyers-Briggs Test

After completing the Meyer-Briggs Test and receiving my results, I was not surprised to see that I was scored as an introvert. According to the dictionary.com, an introvert is psychologically defined as, “a person characterized by concern primarily with his or …show more content…
A popular human-services-oriented type, most of their energies, at work or at home, are directed toward bettering a condition, especially a human one. No one word does justice to the complexites of the human personality. However, the word “gentile” continues to com to mind thinking of the INFJ. (p. 369)
I feel like this quote describes my personality perfectly. I often find myself meditating and pondering on life and creating the big picture. My energy often goes toward finding ways to make life at work, home, and church easier for everyone. When interacting with people, I notice that I am very careful to offend or hurt people; this must express my gentleness toward people. I learned that INFJs could turn work into cause. They also are forward thinkers that provide visionary and moralistic direction (Kroeger, Thuesen, & Ruthledge, 2002). INFJs can be very productive in a team setting, if they are managed well. Kroeger, Thuesen, & Ruthledge (2002) goes on to explain the strengths and weaknesses of the INFJ. He says, “INFJ’s strengths include their intellectual prowess, their personal idealism, and their general caring and concern for humanity” (Kroeger, Thuesen, & Ruthledge, 2002). In the book, Kroeger, Thuesen, & Ruthledge (2002) explains a weaknesses of the INFJ is, “making the simple complex” (p.373). I attest to being the deep thinker who strives to make things better. But, if my idea does not work, I do beat myself up for it. I know I also tend to overthink things that are very simple in nature. I can see who these weaknesses can hold me back in the workplace and home. I understand that I must be able to keep things simple for co-workers and supervisors in order to be clear and efficient. Another weakness I could overcome, is to not beat myself up over a mistake or miscue. Dwelling in my miscues is unproductive and time consuming. It is important to be able to learn from my mistakes and bounce back to be

Recruitment & Selection: Myers Briggs

...The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI) is a psychometric test used to measure psychological preferences in how a person makes decisions and perceives their surrounding environment. A mother-daughter pair, Katherine Briggs and Isabel Myers developed the test based on the typological theories of Carl Gustav Jung. After more than fifty-years of research and development, the MBTI has become the most widely used and respected personality tool. Eighty-nine companies out of the US Fortune 100 make use of it for recruitment and selection, or to help employees gain a better understanding of themselves and their colleagues (Psychometric Success, 2013). The primary theory behind the MBTI is that each person's personality fits into only one of sixteen types. These categories are based on four features of personality, each consisting of two opposite preferences called dichotomies. The MBTI combines an individual’s preferences from each dichotomous pair, denoted by a letter, to yield one of the personality types. Each type is equally valuable and according to the theory, everyone has an innate preference that determines how he or she will behave in all situations (Myers-Briggs, 2013). The four dimensions are: Extroversion (E) vs Introversion (I). This dimension reflects the perceptual orientation of the individual. Extroverts are said to react to immediate and objective conditions in the environment. Introverts, however, look inward to their internal and subjective reactions...

...interrelationships. Managerial self-awareness and personal reflection play an important role in the leadership development process (McCarthy & Garavan, 1999). The 360-degree feedback process, multisource assessments, and personality inventories are useful in the context of leadership development (Church & Bracken, 1997; McCarthy & Garavan, 1999). Selfassessment and personal reflection are valuable tools in achieving personal and professional 2 growth and success. The challenge, however, is that self-assessment is oftentimes a difficult task due to the subjectivity of personal perceptions of strengths and weaknesses. The purpose of this essay is to report out on the assessment of the leadership styles of individual team members and identify the most important areas for improvement. The essay commences with a discussion on the criteria used for the selection of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) as a self-awareness leadership instrument. The essay continues with an analysis of individual team member results from the Myers-Briggs and concludes with a set of recommendations by acknowledging that leadership styles vary among individuals and the personality of the individual plays an important role in developing his or her leadership style. Myers Briggs Assessment

...Myers-Briggs assessment critique Abstract This critique will cover personal observations and analysis of the Myers-Briggs assessment. The assessment helps describe personality types according to Carl Jung and Isabel Briggs Myers typology. After completion, there are two different descriptions along with a career identifier based on the type of personality the test described. Myers-Briggs assessment critique When I originally completed the test about 10 days ago, I was very skeptical of this assessment because I felt that my answers or my train of thought might change based on how I feel today or this week. I decided to take this test today to see if there was any difference on the personality type it would present. I want to point out that I did not remember, nor did I care to remember my previous answers when I originally took this personality assessment. I was not amazed, but definitely surprised when I saw ENTJ (Extraverted, Intuitive, Thinking and Judging) code again; although extraverted and thinking blocks were significantly higher the second time I completed the assessment. This gave me a better idea and positive perception about this typology test, as I do not remember taking this type of an assessment in the past. Reading ENTJ type description by J. Butt and M.M. Heiss made me ask more questions than understanding simply because of generalization aspects. Yes, many things in the psychological description fit my personality type, but they are describing many...

Mbti as a Tool

...Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Introduction The world economy today is changing in a fast pace and it puts a high pressure on companies abilities to be efficient and productive. Because of today’s demanding business environment companies are under more pressure and a strategic advantage could be in building an effective workforce through a variety of psychometric testing (Suman, 2009). One such psychometric test is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator which is widely used in organisations today as a tool. This literature review aims to briefly describe the background history of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and to understand the theory of the test. It also aims to identify and investigate research done on Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. One objective is to analyse research on its reliability and validity and also to understand the application of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) in different appropriate work and organisational settings e.g. team work. History MBTI is based on the writings of Carl Jung, a Swiss who worked with Freud before parting from him and developing his own theory. Jung was influenced by Freud but suggested that it was something wider than purely sexual or aggressive drives that motivated behaviour. He also shifted focus from Freud’s childhood centred personality development theory to a belief that personality development continues throughout life (Maltby, Day and Macaskill, 2010). When Jung analysed a patient’s case history through two different perspectives...

Myers-Briggs Psychological Types

...Think Piece #1 Myers-Briggs Psychological Types In the early 1900’s, famed Swiss Psychologist, Carl Gustav Jung recognize that people had distinctly different preferences which leads to different behaviors. Carl Jung developed and characterized people into two perceiving functions; Sensation and Intuition, and two judging functions; Thinking and Feeling. These functions were then modified by two main attitude types; Extraversion and Introversion. Carl Jung believed that we all use these four functions throughout our lives, but individually we use different functions with a varying amount of success and frequency. During World War II, American Psychologist Isabel Myers and her mother Katherine Briggs interest in Jung’s personality types led to their creation of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MTBI) examination. Their goal was to help people understand themselves and each other so that they may work in war-time tasks that suited their personality types therefore increasing happiness, creativity, and production. In this “Think Piece” assignment, I will; - Discuss the results of my psychological type given by Myers-Briggs test on-line. - How my specific type affects my behavior at work? - Discuss the psychological type of someone whose type is completely opposite of mine. - Use the Myers-Briggs concepts to describe how the relationship between the two of us could be uncomfortable. - Describe also how I may be able to complement the opposite psychological type. Personality Types

...Accuracy of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Test Everyone has different personalities, and their individual personality determines their decisions and actions. Psychoanalyst Carl Jung was a pioneer of the study of personalities. After reading Jung’s theory of personality, Katherine Briggs used it as a foundation for a personality type indicator for practical use. Briggs and her daughter, Isabel Briggs-Myers, determined that there were four different personality preference scales, each with two extremes, and from this 16 different personality types. From here, Briggs and Briggs-Myers developed a test that would determine each individual’s personality type. This test is called the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), which is quite detailed and has been refined over the years through scientific research to help validate the results. Throughout the remainder of this paper I will provide an overview of the different MBTI types, and I will try to determine the tests dependability by comparing the results of my test to my own insight of my personality. There are four different scales of personality types. The test helps determine your preference on each of these scales. The first scale, which measures how we interact with the world, is the scale between extraversion (E) and introversion (I). Extraverts draw their energy and focus from the outside world whereas introverts draw their energy from within themselves. The second scale, how we process information, is the scale between sensing...

Myer Briggs Assignment

...Myers-Briggs assignment Myers-Briggs assignment My type on this assignment was the ESFP, Extraverted- Sensing- Feeling -Perceiving. The analysis of my formula type is that I am a slightly expressed extravert, moderately expressed sensing personality, distinctively expressed feeling personality and slightly expressed perceiving personality. According the results I love people, excitement, telling stories and having fun. This is very accurate about my personality. I love to be around people and am always looking for something exciting and fun to do. In general I love to have fun. One of the things the article I read said about ESFPs is that they are attracted to new ideas and new fashions and gadgets… I don’t see that so much in myself. However, it also says that ESFPs love to tell colorful stories and I definitely do that. I have the tendency to make an otherwise boring event turn to something very interesting. I do love to talk, which is another quality, but I am also a good listener. As far as the functional Analysis, the introverted feeling interest me greatly. I often have trouble making decisions as to what to say and when to say. I have feelings of what could happen or who might be hurt if I say or do certain things. I often weigh out my actions before I say or do them. I am a caretaker and try my hardest not to hurt anyone’s feelings or cause unnecessary harm. Next, I would say the extraverted sensing part of my personality...

Personal Development Plan and Essay

...Major Individual Essay During this time of exploration I have exposed experiences that have had a significant impact on how I see myself. One incident related to a less than one-minute interaction forty years ago. As I was thinking about my life story and self-development trajectory I recalled an interstate holiday to Queensland when I was 10 years old. My parents, avid antique collectors, were looking for a grandfather clock and made an enquiry to a shopkeeper if he had any clocks to sell. The shopkeeper responded to my father’s query and proceeded to say he did have a beautiful Victorian grandfather clock and said “oh it’s over there just near your son” and he was pointing at me….This event had a profound impact on how I have viewed myself and now forty years later a place to start for some great opportunities for improvement. As Eleanor Roosevelt said,“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent”. | Introduction I made a decision at the start of the semester to use the subject as a catalyst to create some changes in my professional life. I came into this subject with a plan to work out how to improve my working relationship with a colleague who I perceived as overbearing and a dictator. Over the past twelve weeks I have dissected not only this relationship but also my career, myself and my future. I am, to most, seen as a successful executive and leader. Based on the success symbols of our western society such as being goal oriented, having a clear...
