The article “NYPD tracked citizens’ cellphones 1,000 times since 2008 without warrants” written on February 11, 2016 by Ciara McCarthy focused on NYPD tracking people’s cellphones using stingrays. According to records obtained by the New York Civil Liberties Union recently, the NYPD has tracked cellphone’s over 1,000 times since 2008, all without obtaining a warrant, since it’s not required. NYPD says they use “stingrays”, after attaining lower- level court orders before using the device.
