Nancy Hart, otherwise known as Aunt Nancy, was Georgia’s most famous female Revolutionary War participant. She was a strong woman who never backed down from a fight. Nancy Hart was an American patriot, and there were several stories that told about her incredible interactions with the British army. Researchers have debated if Nancy’s achievements were truth or had they developed into more of a myth. Nancy Hart’s existence had been questioned, and there is still debate among researchers about whether or not she had done the amazing things her stories have said, because the fact may have been twisted into fiction.

The engraving stated: “Nancy Morgan Hart 1735-1830”. Beside Nancy’s tombstone is her husband’s tombstone that said “John Hart Ga Troops Rev War”. Nancy Hart had a county, its county seat, and a highway named after her. She also had the great honor of being “…inducted into Georgia Woman of Achievement.” A fictional person would not have been added into the Georgia Woman of Achievement. These Tories had killed Hart’s patriot allies in Augusta Georgia. The Tories arrived at Hart’s homestead, killed her last turkey, and told Hart to cook it for them. Hart, with her quick mind, decided to get the Tories intoxicated. Once the men were intoxicated, Hart sent her daughter to call for help with a conch shell used to alarm neighbors that Tories were near. When her daughter left for help, Hart distracted the intoxicated soldiers and stole one of the Tories’ guns.
