Napoleon’s Buttons: How 17 Molecules Changed History is a chemistry book which was written by Penny LeCouteur and Jay Burreson. The book was written to go deeper into chemistry and explained how it works. The structure of the polymer, molecule, the compound, the elements it has had many impacts on how it is used and how it has affected many of us. Many of the items mentioned in the book are objects that we used or consumed in our everyday lives and we don’t see the complexity in it.
In chapter 1, which it’s called “Peppers, Nutmeg, and Cloves”, talks mainly about the history of pepper, spices, and the molecules of it. It also talks about the trade of New York with Nutmeg. Pepper became very important throughput history it was valuated back …show more content…
Through the spices our bodies were able to detect the chemical messages which are produced by the molecule composition of the spices. Spices was tempted Columbus to explore the New World for the discovery of black and white pepper. The pepper was what made up Venice. Finding routes to India was extremely important. Why was that? Pepper first originated in India. Chapter 3, which it called “Glucose”. The main ideas of this chapter are to explain how Glucose plays a significant role in all types sugars. Also, glucose which makes up sugars, and sugars makes a role in our life because we consume it almost every day. The molecular structure of the glucose gives it a taste that the tongue tastes it sweet. Sugar impacted slave trade enormously. The sugar trade was a way to import profit and they needed people to work the crops. So, they brought black Africans to the New World to work in the fields. Even after the slave trade ended sugar still impacted the business industry. If sugar wouldn’t have been discovered the slave trade would be at its minimum number of slaves. With the discovery of glucose many more sugars were developed throughout history. With sugar coming in more sweet foods were made
