Education is about values in other word behavior change in all the domains of education that is the psychomotor, the cognitive and the affective. A skilled artisan or accountant with no sense of his position in society at the family level or at work or society in general is a social misfit and a drain to national wealth because of the need to either hospitalise him because he has AIDS or incarcerate him because he is a criminal and a danger to that society. A strong sense of belonging or identity, responsibility and accountability are the things that can be defined as patriotism. Economic giants today and in the...

...Financial markets and institution are life blood of any economy. DISCUSS. What are financial markets market An actual or nominal place where forces of demand and supply operate, and where buyers and sellers interact (directly or through intermediaries) to trade goods, services, or contracts or instruments, for money or barter. Markets include mechanisms or means for (1) determining price of the traded item, (2) communicating the price information, (3) facilitating deals and transactions, and (4) effecting distribution. The market for a particular item is made up of existing and potential customers who need it and have the ability and willingness to pay for it. Buyers and sellers of stocks or bonds or futures and options contracts use the financial markets to meet to buy and sell the products through a middleman exchange. What are the financial markets? That's a good question, because financial markets go by many terms, including capital markets, Wall Street, even simply "the markets". Whatever you call them, financial markets are where traders buy and sell stocks, bonds, derivatives, foreign exchange and commodities. These markets are where businesses go to raise cash to grow, companies reduce risks, and investors make money. Types of Financial Markets The Stock Market is a series of exchanges where successful corporations go to raise large amounts of cash to expand. Stocks are shares of ownership of a public corporation that are sold to investors through broker...

...CHAPTER 2 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND TO THE RHODESIAN NOVEL BEFORE AND AFTER 1890 The history of Zimbabwe shows that land was at the centre of the people’s lives (as everywhere else in the world), before the arrival of white people; and at the centre of controversy from the time that the white people colonised the country in 1890. It is still at the centre of controversy as I write towards the end of the 20th Century because land has not been adequately redistributed among the black people. The history of Zimbabwe before the advent of the 1890 colonial experience also reveals what Chinua Achebe calls his fundamental theme. This fundamental theme is that “African people did not hear of culture for the first time from Europeans, that their societies were not mindless but frequently had a philosophy of great depth and value and beauty, that they had poetry and, above all, they had dignity. It is this dignity that many African people all but lost during the colonial period and it is this that they must now regain.” 1 The pre-colonial history of Zimbabwe further emphasises that “African societies of the past, with all their imperfections, were not consumers but 2 producers of culture.” This is because although the country was not 1 . ...reason, besides the fact that we can barely understand what he says sometimes, for saying that he's - wouldn't be very good at GPS. But before you answer that, let me just remind people I'm Paul Raeburn. This is SCIENCE FRIDAY from NPR News. All right… Dr. NASS: Okay… RAEBURN: …so why would Dylan be a bad idea? Dr. NASS: The problem is that our brains are built that when we hear a voice, we associate with that voice - especially if it's a person's voice we know - all the characteristics and benefits and negatives associated with that voice. Now when it comes to navigation, we want someone who's known as being very precise, who's careful, who is alert and attentive to detail, and that's certainly not the image that Bob Dylan portrays. So generally, in fact, the idea of using famous people - unless those people are famous for exactly the things we would want in a GPS. So, if anyone knew what Hiawatha's voice sounded like… (Soundbite of laughter) Dr. NASS: …that would be a great voice for a GPS. But Bob Dylan is best served in other ways. RAEBURN: Now, tell us just a little bit more about - just briefly tick off a few of the other things you've done in machine-human communications. Then, we can talk about one or two. Dr. NASS: Well, we have a lot of recent work in the car space, having to do, for example, showing that the voice in the car as being about Bob Dylan. But for happy drivers, they drive much better with the happy voice in the car. But depressed voice - depressed people...

...communication mediums. With previous research in mind, I will be discussing how humans have become obsessed with media, and provide historical context as to why. A mass majority of this research focuses on the link between psychology and communication regarding to the positive correlation between the two. More specifically, psychological politeness reports between ‘human to human’ interactions are compared to research reports between ‘human to media’ interactions to prove that life is media, and media is life. Theoretical Background The Media Equation is a general communication theory developed by Byron Reeves and Clifford Nass while working at Stanford University in 1986. The two professors began collaborating on a research project they named “Social Responses to Communication Technologies” with the basic premise that media and real life are similar (Reeves & Nass, 1996). With this theory in mind, the two hypothesized that an understanding of how people interact...

...inconclusive. The lack of research in the Hong Kong ´ˆ auditing environment motivates this study, particularly following the Enron debacle. The purpose of this paper is to examine the non-audit services (NASs), competition, rank and types of auditors, in respect of the independence problem as it relates to the practices of Hong Kong auditors in the post-Enron environment. Design/methodology/approach – Four independent variables identified from literature gaps are examined, namely NASs, levels of competition, auditors of different ranks and types of auditors. Mixed ANOVA are employed to analyze survey responses from 207 “Big 4” and 185 “non-Big 4” auditors. Findings – Results of the study show that the provisions of NASs and high competition could have a negative influence on auditors’ perceptions of independence. Second, auditors’ perceptions that the influence of NASs on independence depends on an individual auditor’s rank are supported. Senior managers have the highest mean rating on perceptions, while partners have the lowest mean rating. Results support the agency theory that the agent (senior manager) may not always act in the best interests for the principal. Finally, there is no difference between Big 4 and non-Big 4 auditors’ perceptions of the influence of NASs and competition on independence. Originality/value – The study...

...exact answer for speed, simply look at the wiki on gigabit. The capacity range varies, people have built 40 TB (terabyte) machines and other just have 2TB. With port replication and add on hard drive controller cards there is hardly a limit on size. A board with 6 SATA ports can be replicated (1 to 5 port) allowing for 30 drives to be attached, if 3TB drives were used in raid 50 that would be 72TB of storage. As far as fault tolerance, raid 50 is fairly stable if set up correctly, raid 10 has been touted as one of the best setups since more drives can fail at one time without data loss. All of those features can be used on typical NAS devices. (NAS DEVICES , 2012) There are management features available, for examble the SecureF1rst NASS includes some innovative disk management features. It supports assigning disk and partition...

...introduced to many technological devices that is potentially pushing them into solitude. This is an alarming trend that has developed with the advent of 21st century. Technology has taken over human lives. The younger generation nowadays would rather sit at home and chat with their friends over the Internet rather than going out and making new friends or playing with their existing friends. According to a survey carried out by Stanford University, young girls who multitask with various digital applications like Facebook, YouTube, and text messaging are facing the risk of becoming social hermits.Around 3,461 American girls between the age of 812 were surveyed for the study. “No one had ever looked at this, which really shocked us,” Clifford Nass, a Stanford University professor who worked on the study said. “Kids have to learn about emotion, and the way they do that, really, is by paying attention to other people. They have to really look them in the eye.” Multitasking with different types of technological devices, smart phones, touch pads, mp3 players etc is the hip thing nowadays. The era of PlayStation might have made the world a ‘safer’ place for children since they dont go out to play and get hurt but has definitely complicated it for them by taking away their childhood. Children connect online with their friends and play with them within the confines of their homes. PLAY DATES Researchers of the study learned that children who have regular play dates with other...

...This leaves 299 listing farming as their secondary occupation. (USDA, 2014). Most farmers are not “specialized” and produce more than one agriculture product. The total market value of all agricultural products sold is approximately $65 million which is up 45% from 2007. Average product sold per farm is $113,234, also up 45% from 2007. The leading agricultural products of Mahoning County listed by commodity group value of sales are grains, oilseeds, dry beans, and dry peas at approximately $23 million and milk from cows at $22.7 million. The top crop items of the county are: soybeans for beans at 15,556 acres, corn for grain at 14,422 acres, forage-land used for all hay and haylage, grass silage, and green chop at 12,789. (USDA, 2014) (NASS, 2013) The statistics above, and the pages of additional data I did not include in this paper give a picture of Mahoning County’s agricultural environment. ...themselves into the bad habit of multitasking. Victoria Rideout, the former vice president of Kaiser, confirms that “It’s multitasking while learning that has the biggest potential downside” (Source 2). The reason multitasking has a great possibility of failing is because the brain needs to concentrate on one thing at a time in order to complete it at its maximum potential. When a person is trying to take in new knowledge it’s imperative that they dedicate their mind to that one task and have no other distractions. Not only does multitasking distract the brain but it’s destructive to the way it functions and processes. During a study in 2009, Stanford researcher Clifford Nass challenged college students to perform tasks that involved switching between activities, filtering information, and memorizing. Despite Nass’ hypothesis “Chronic multitaskers were abysmal at all three tasks” (Source 1). Frequent multitaskers are less able to perform basic assignments, one of which includes multitasking itself, which proves that multitasking is ruinous to the brain. Psychology professor, David Meyer, also states that ‘under most conditions, the brain simply cannot do two complex tasks at the same time” (Source 2). A person shouldn’t attempt to fit two tasks in at once if the brain simply can’t handle the pressure from it. When a person is preparing to multitask, they should think about the consequences it will bring them. Multitasking is harmful to a person’s brain by slowing cognitive thinking...

By multitasking you’re ruining your knowledge and education. Clifford Nass has summarized the multitasking condition and the results are the opposite of what they thought they would be. Clifford Nass says ” Thy look where they shouldn't and their memory is very sloppy. Plus to just top it off people who multitask have more social problems.” Is it me or is this proof that multitasking isn’t worth half of the trouble and problems that it...

...Unit 6 Research Paper 1: Network Attached Storage (NAS) What is a NAS device? What is the speed of the network adapter available on a NAS device? What is the capacity range? Is there any fault tolerance (such as RAID) build into a NAS device? Are management features available? These are the questions I have to answer for this paper. So, here are my results starting with the first question. What is a NAS device? Network Attached Storage is a storage device connected to a network that allows storage and retrieval of data from a centralized location for authorized network users and heterogeneous clients. Seems to me that a NAS is like a WIFI version of an external hard drive. Though, if needing more room, you can add another to the one you already have. What is the speed of the network adapter available on a NAS device? NAS device doesn’t require much processing power. The largest bottleneck in performance will most likely be the network itself. Most home networks will use wired fast Ethernet (100 Megabits/sec), wired gigabit Ethernet (1000 Megabits/sec), wireless g (54 Megabits/sec), or wireless n (248 Megabits/second). What is the capacity range? Depending on the type and volume of content you plan to store, there's a choice of capacities available all the way up to huge multiple TB (Terabyte) versions. A 160GB capacity for example would be enough storage for around 40,000 average audio tracks or up to 200 hours of video content. If you'll be using your NAS device to store...
