Nathan the Gymnast

As a toddler Nathan love to climb on things and he can balance on objects that was on the floor in his house. There are three learning theories Behaviorist, Cognitivist and Constructionist it can be put in an application that is hypothetical a gymnast by the name Nathan in this story Nathan the Gymnast .The first behaviorist theory is how to make Nathan turn his negative into positive reinforcement. In the story the cognitivist theory we must help Nathan with his mental process in problem solving, and then with his constructionist theory can be applied with how it will help Nathan by using the active process of his learning when using outside sources. Nathan can do well and love of gymnastics and personal, motivation. Here are some example from some author. In the book Skinner’s stated that in order to understand Nathan behavior one must see what made his behavior change and then determine what consequences of his behavior need to change Behaviorist’s research found that the bonds between the stimulus and response are strengthened through positive or negative rein forcers. Thorndike called this the( Law of Effect). He felt that a behavior would less likely “occur again if its consequence has been aversive” (Driscoll, 2005, p. 35). Behaviorists are not interested in the emotions or thinking processes of the student but just observable behaviors .As for Nathan parents they have try difference ways to help Nathan with his behaviors by showing him was to take his behaviors and make it a positive one like showing him video games as a reward for his behavior. Look like everything Nathan parents did still was not good enough for him (B. F. Skinner) stated that the reinforce his parents was taking was to long term and it has been discovered that the stimulus needs to be “presented immediately after a behavior and that stimulus increases the

...These three theories provide imperative methods for teaching students. Each concept will be applied to a story called, “Nathan the Gymnast”. The story is about a little boy named Nathan. Nathans’ gymnast abilities were uncovered at a young age and considered to be so profound that it came naturally. His inspiration to become a professional gymnast came through being exposed to the Olympics, thus convincing his parents to enroll him into the local gymnast training center. After attending gymnast training, his coach noticed his natural abilities and became eager to enroll him into competitions. So with Nathan’s parents’ approval and his personal determination he began competing. The only setback that Nathan displays is his weakness on a particular portion, which is the pommel horse. Nathan dislikes the pommel horse and therefore doesn’t give it proper practice time unless his parents strongly encourage him. Consequently, he performs well on all of the other areas except for the pommel horse. Oddly even after Nathan has participated in competing for a couple years now, he is still weak at the pommel horse. He wins medals for the other areas as he excels in them. His parents even brought him supplement instruction, a practice home version called the mushroom. In addition, to the video his father purchased to improve his skills with the pommel horse.
