...Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character are all traits that I have focused on maintaining in my life. Not only are they useful attributes to encompass for any person, they are also what make up a National Honor Society candidate. Having these characteristics has shaped me into the person I am today and makes it possible for me to encounter any situation I come across. Throughout all my school years, I feel like I have exemplified the facets of a person who would be part of National Honor Society. I have strived to be motivated, helpful, charitable, and personable. Being a good student and doing my best has been very important overall in my life. School and learning, both of which I love, are essential in our world today. Throughout...

...Emira Hoxha National Honor Society Sept. 25, 2017 Application Essay The qualities people possess and what they do with those qualities is what makes up someone's character. I have got to be honest, there have been many essays I have had to write where they asked me “Who am I”, but none have made me think as deeply as this one. How do I morally and mentally line up with the world? People have told me that I am reliable, observant, and hard-working, but finding moments where these characteristics were shown were difficult. There was a moment during a very stressful time at my workplace where we had many orders coming in. The organization for said orders was nonexistent. They were all noted down in different places depending on who took what...

...Character I am deeply honored to be among the model students who are being considered for the National Honor Society. I must admit that this is something which everyone would like to do. As, of me I have been looking forward to this, since I entered into high school. I believe that this organization does great things in society by providing community service and lots of other things. Moreover, I also believe, that I possessed all the requirements for entrance into the National Honor Society. Also, while growing up, I was always taught that I should put my best effort into everything I do. Once a Greek philosopher Aristotle said “our characters are a result of our conduct” which personifies me by having the qualities of good character, good...

...Scholarship, leadership, service, and character; all four pillars of the National Honor Society have equally shaped my development. Throughout school, my commitment to learning allows me to gain knowledge that I wouldn’t otherwise obtain. I am a diligent worker and always put one hundred percent of my effort into assignments and projects. As I have progressed through high school, I have come to be thoroughly satisfied by participating in service projects and volunteering. A great feeling of accomplishment and self worth comes over me when I help others. Additionally, as I have progressed through school I have started taking more leadership roles. This includes both everyday leadership roles in addition to officer roles in various school clubs....

...Each year only a select amount of intellectual students get accepted into the most prestigious group in middle school, the National Junior Honor Society. Moreover, they are not only accepted for their intelligence, but more importantly their character. Those who have earned a spot in this group have shown an exceptional trait of leadership, respect, and a heart that is willing to serve others. To commence with, the National Junior Honor Society is about being the leaders of your school. “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way” John C. Maxwell. This clever quote conveys all leaders to lead their peers with a wise mind. Those who have been accepted have shown the leadership trait by guiding their school...

...West Point Case Analysis Bellevue University Description “A Cadet will not lie, cheat or steal nor tolerate those who do”, reads West Point’s honor code, allegedly violated in 1976. The West Point Cheating Incident revolves around an incident from 1976, where over 100 juniors were alleged to have cheated on an electrical engineering exam. Cheating on an exam can have damning ramifications at any school, but when it comes to West Point; it is a direct violation of the schools highly held honor code. The honor code is a West Point tradition, and has helped mold military leaders with high integrity and strong values. Due to the sheer number of individuals, who were alleged to be involved, and where the scandal was happening, the event garnered national attention. Due to the uproar in the press and across the country, more pressure was placed on General Sidney Berry, Superintendent of the United States Naval Academy by bureaucrats and politicians alike. Diagnosis West Point is not your ordinary school setting. It is a breeding ground for training our nation’s best and brightest future military leaders. In the United States Military, it is imperative for soldiers to lead with character, while remaining calm under fire. It seems West Point, at the time of this event, concerned itself more around punishing for crimes than it did developing character. If West Point was truly interested in developing leaders with high character, it would not utterly dismiss individuals...

...Portfolio 3: Native American Mascot Controversies within Sports Throughout the history of sports, Native American Indian mascots, symbols, and names have been incorporated nationwide. The propriety of using Native American mascots and images in sports has been a topic of debate in the United States and Canada since the 1960s. Americans have had a history of drawing inspiration from native peoples and "playing Indian" that dates back at least to the 18th century. “The controversy surrounding the use of Indian mascots, symbols, and names in American sports has origins that run deep throughout the history of Indian and non-Indian relations (American Indian Issues 1).” Today, the use of Indian mascots is at the center of an argument that touches the emotional hearts and souls of both proponents and opponents. Therefore, (I believe) sport team owners and the franchises themselves have, metaphorically, progressed imperialism upon the Native American philosophy. Native Americans were exploited almost from the moment Europeans arrived on this continent, pushed and shoved off their land for centuries until they were confined to the reservations that are now common across the south and midwestern parts of the United States. Nick Dewitt of the Bleacher Report responded to the issue stating: “It's been a prickly topic for years, even decades. It spans not just every professional sport, but collegiate sports as well. Depending on who you talk to, it's a stain on the organizations it affects...

...message. Much more information resides in the context of communication, including the background, associations, and basic values of the communicators. In general, high-context cultures function with much less legal paperwork than is deemed essential in low-context cultures. Japan, Saudi Arabia, and other high-context cultures place a great deal of emphasis on a person's values and position or place in society. In such cultures, a business loan is more likely to be based on who you are than on formal analysis of pro forma financial documents. In a lowcontext culture such as the United States, Switzerland, or Germany, deals are made with much less information about the character, the back-ground, and the values of the participants. Much more reliance is placed on the words and numbers in the loan application. In a high-context culture, a person's word is his or her bond. There is less need to anticipate contingencies and provide for external legal sanctions because the culture emphasizes obligations and trust as important values. In these cultures, shared feelings of obligation and honor take the place of impersonal legal sanctions. This helps explain the importance of long and protracted negotiations that never seem to "get to the point." Part of the purpose of negotiating for a person from a high-context culture is to get to know the potential...

...Christopher Columbus: The Original American Hero? Was Columbus a hero or a villain? Maybe it’s neither. Columbus was brave and daring, and did things that were important to world history. But he wasn’t heroic in the sense of displaying great moral qualities. Courage, while generally a good character trait, isn’t necessarily heroic or even highly honorable and praiseworthy unless it’s deployed in certain kinds of actions or causes. But he also wasn’t especially villainous in the sense of displaying particular evil qualities. His arrival in the Americas caused a great deal of death to American Indians, chiefly from disease. And it caused the subjugation and literal or virtual enslavement of the Indians. But this didn’t stem from Columbus’s being an unusually evil person. It stemmed from the brutality of the time, coupled with the contact between one culture that was much more powerful than another (and that carried many communicable diseases to which members of the other culture lacked resistance). I’m inclined to say that we shouldn’t celebrate Columbus Day, precisely because such national celebrations should be focused on honoring people who did things that were both especially important and especially honorable (such as veterans, President Washington, or Martin Luther King, Jr.) and not just on people who did things that were especially important. This might conceivably include not-necessarily-good people who did things that were unambiguously good. But European expansion...

...IDENTIFICATION OF KEY FACTORS The main character in the “The Case of Cassie Brown” is a high school senior named Cassie Brown. Cassie is a Jamaican, young woman of color, with strong faith and supportive parents. She is a very dedicated, hardworking and motivated student with aspirations of majoring in mathematics when she attends college. The case is about Cassies’ interaction with her Mathematics teacher, Mr. Tempe; which has caused her to doubt her decision to major in mathematics. Although Cassie has scored well on her Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT), is a member of the National Honor Society, and participates in the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP), she now is losing confidence in her abilities. Other notable characters in the case included Mr. & Mrs. Brown, Cassies’ parents. They were very encouraging and ultimately never wanted Cassie to give up her dreams. Mr. Horton was Cassies’ pastor at her church. Although he was a new pastor, Cassies’ culture and family values reinforced the practice of seeking guidance through the ministers of their church. Mr. Horton assisted in the facilitation of a meeting with Miss Jensen the school counselor who spoke very highly of Cassie and also encouraged her to follow her passions and her dreams. The town name and state were never mentioned in the case but the case takes place at Jefferson High School which is an inner-city school with a high population of low income and minority students. There were statistics published...

...the very life and business practice postulated the following statement: "Good ethics is good business." Otherwise, a negative reaction on the part of customers and partners will inevitably lead to a significant reduction in the profitability of the company, and widely disseminated by the media unsavory reputation will lead to a lack of any credibility. Nobel Prize winner Milton Friedman wrote that "the true role of business! "PICs in its use of energy and resources in activities designed to increase profits, provided that it adheres to the rules of the game ... participate in an open competition, without resorting to fraud and deception." Ethics imposes restrictions on the business system, being the moral rules and practices of a given society. ...Sam Rosenbloom Mrs. Villarreal Rhetoric, Composition, and Literature 18 December 2014 The Disregard for Rules If Moses were to come down from Mount Sinai today, he would find out that the tablets that commanded the morals of the world, have been replaced by tablets that can play movies, listen to music, and even order a pizza. Much has changed since Exodus, including how we follow the pivotal rules that have been commanded for us. Though almost everyone can agree that today in 2014, we are not coveting our neighbors slaves, many essential rules we have used to live our lives morally are no longer followed. “Honor your father and mother” is a commandment that has been not only bent but broken, especially in recent times; in fact, today the ubiquitous breaking of this commandment is having such horrific consequences that it is leading to the destruction of not just the breaker of the commandment but the destruction of the family and the community. This year, Caitlyn Ricci has show just how far children have strayed from honoring their parents. Caitlyn is a twenty-one year old who is student at Temple University. In recent years, Caitlyn has become estranged to her parents and has gone on to live with her grandparents. Her parents have said that they have tried to contact their daughter enamors times over the last two years with no communication back from their daughter. Finally, Caitlyn’s parents were fed up and said if she won’t even talk to them they will not pay for...

...To the Young Women of Malolos: Summary and Analysis Jose Rizal’s legacy to Filipino women is embodied in his famous essay entitled, “To the Young Women of Malolos,” where he addresses all kinds of women – mothers, wives, the unmarried, etc. and expresses everything that he wishes them to keep in mind. SUMMARY “To the Women of Malolos” was originally written in Tagalog. Rizal penned this writing when he was in London, in response to the request of Marcelo H. del Pilar. The salient points contained in this letter are as follows: 1. The rejection of the spiritual authority of the friars – not all of the priests in the country that time embodied the true spirit of Christ and His Church. Most of them were corrupted by worldly desires and used worldly methods to effect change and force discipline among the people. 2. The defense of private judgment 3. Qualities Filipino mothers need to possess – as evidenced by this portion of his letter, Rizal is greatly concerned of the welfare of the Filipino children and the homes they grow up in. 4. Duties and responsibilities of Filipino mothers to their children 5. Duties and responsibilities of a wife to her husband – Filipino women are known to be submissive, tender, and loving. Rizal states in this portion of his letter how Filipino women ought to be as wives, in order to preserve the identity of the race. 6. Counsel to young women on their choice of a lifetime partner RIZAL’S MESSAGE TO FILIPINO...
