After conducting extensive research on the history of the National Junior Honor Society, my understanding and appreciation of what this program represents and offers have deepened immensely. It is truly an honor to be considered for membership in the Copiague Middle School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. To have the opportunity to be a part of a community that takes pride in motivating students to inspire other young people to be selfless, to become leaders, and thrive academically is heartwarming. Furthermore, being recognized as a dedicated and tenacious student who loves helping people, mentoring, and encouraging others to pay it forward has inspired me to continue to welcome challenges and inspire positive change within myself as well …show more content…
And character is what makes you excel in life. Completing assigned school work diligently and grading high will definitely help you on your path to success, but ultimately it is about embracing challenges and being passionate about helping people. There is a man who lives under the bridge near my home. When I come home from school, I either see him walking or sitting under the bridge tightly gripping his belongings. He often appears to be sad, hungry, and drained mentally. No person should ever have to experience such hardship. It’s a heart-wrenching feeling to see another human being who doesn’t have money to eat or a place to live. I always hear my mom say, “be the change you want to see.” Therefore, I’ve come to the realization that one of my callings is to develop a program that will not only help prepare homeless people to reintegrate themselves back into the community but find a home of their own as well. I can remember the feeling I received after volunteering for the Salvation Army with Girl Scouts. To be able to give something to someone without wanting anything back is a beautiful

...National Junior Honor Society Essay Scholarship School has always come relatively easy for me. Even when I was young I was always motivated to be the best in getting AR points in my grade, and for a while I was the best. I consistently try my best to get an A, even when I feel like giving up. When I don’t get one I usually feel disappointed in myself and regularly try to correct my mistake before it can happen again. When I grow up I want to be an engineer, so I try extra hard in math and science. I do well in group projects and I have been best in class in a couple of public speeches. I also was tested and had one of the best reading levels in my school family/team. Reaching 270 AR points in first grade may not earn me any scholarships, but it shows that I’m a self motivated hard working kid. Participation & Leadership...

National Junior Honor Society Analysis

...I believe that I should be accepted into the National Junior Honor Society. I help contribute ideas to help the school and community. I am always willing to volunteer and provide service for my parents, teachers, or the elderly. Whenever I have free time I study or help my younger brother with his homework and afterschool activities. I am also honest, trustworthy, and a leader. Below are some of the strengths and requirements I have to be in NJHS. Leadership I am very good at help younger students. In choir we are separated into different groups. Without anyone telling me to I take charge of the people in my group. We did different activities so I assigned different parts and we usually win challenges. In band I am one of the older drummers so I have to work with the younger beginner drummers. In band the instructor is usually more focussed on working with the main instruments like the saxophones and the clarinets so percussion is at the bottom. Why Colleges Should Not Be Allowed In College

...As a junior in high school the only things on my mind are keeping my GPA up, getting good scores on my SAT and ACT, and hoping to God that the colleges consider my application adequate for entry. I personally have two schools that I have been interested in. These two schools are the University of Florida (UF) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The University of Florida is located in Gainesville, Florida; and is a fairly large school with an undergrad enrollment of about 35,043 undergraduates in the past year alone. The University of Florida is known for being a prestigious school, it requires that the majority the applicants have a 3.25-3.75 GPA. Due to this strict selection rubric the acceptance rate into UF is 45%. UF does...

The Mis(Sed)Education of Deethe Mis(Sed)Education of Dee 1

...As I read and re-read the article inspiration for my essay, I revisited my thesis statement at least 10 times. My mind was a jumbo of APA formatting, Core Curriculum theory, technology, and Biblical Integration; just to name a few of my thoughts. As I considered my audience and the outline that I so easily discarded; I thought about my educational journey and determined that I think of myself as well educated. My story begins in the 4th grade in Buffalo, New York at Public School 74. I guess you could say that this is where I was being mis-educated based on the premise that memorization of a bunch of facts was the fast track to becoming well educated. Little did I know that one phone call would forever change my life. My grandmother who essentially was a smart woman was raising me. There are two reasons I can say that with confidence. The 1st reason I considered her a smart woman was because family history tells me that she was born in 1927, a child of a black father who was a numbers runner and a mother who as far as I can tell by the stories was a stay at home mother of Caucasian and Native American descent. Her brother, Uncle Jerry taught her how to read at the age of three using the comics from the local newspaper. She embraced learning and was enrolled in school at five, set to graduate at the age of 18. She was intelligent for a young black girl going to a predominately-white elementary school in the 30’s. She skipped two grades and graduated high school at the tender...

...These pages were downloaded from Writing Personal Statements Online, available at https://www.e-education.psu.edu/writingpersonalstatementsonline/ Short Personal Statement by a Geology Student Growing up in Canada with a life-long fascination for Canadian geography, I have always been interested in returning to the country. Although my family moved to the US before I entered high school, I have always kept my eyes turned north, especially in recent years as I began to read journal articles about research conducted on John Evans Glacier, located about 80° N latitude. Graduating next semester with a B.S. in computer science and engineering and a minor in geographic information systems, I am interested in attending the University of Alberta for graduate study. Geographic information systems (GIS) is a field especially suited to investigating spatial patterns, modeling diverse scenarios, and overlaying spatial data. This semester, in my advanced GIS course, Spatial Data Structures and Algorithms, I am part of a team developing a temporal database and program for tracing historical trading data. My computer science skills have also been put to use in two summer internship projects, where I acquired proficiency with using LIDAR (light detection and ranging) technology, now favored by NASA in its current 10-year study of Greenland and changes in the ice cap extent. Through my coursework and project experience, I have also accrued skills...
