Scholarship Essay Sample Two - National Merit Scholar 3. Scholarship Essay Sample Three - Fulbright Scholarship Essay One - Crabiel Scholarship Winner, won $3,000 scholarship Like Mr. Crabiel, I literally work tirelessly in many academic and leadership roles. I sleep no more than six hours a night because of my desire to expertly meet my many commitments. Throughout my life, I have worked as long and as hard as I possibly can to effect beneficial changes in both school and society. During the summer of tenth grade, I took a number theory course at Johns Hopkins University with students from Alaska, California, and Bogota, Colombia. Similarly, during the summer following eleventh grade, I was one of ninety students from New Jersey selected to attend the Governor's School in the Sciences at Drew University. At Drew, I took courses in molecular orbital theory, special relativity, cognitive psychology, and I participated in an astrophysics research project. For my independent research project, I used a telescope to find the angular velocity of Pluto. With the angular velocity determined, I used Einstein's field equations and Kepler's laws to place an upper bound on the magnitude of the cosmological constant, which describes the curvature of space and the rate of the universe's expansion. ...(including those that require college education and those that do not) depends upon the size and growth of the economy, affected in turn by demand-side factors such as the strength of consumer (public and private) demand and credit availability”(Rothstein,2009). Even though they have been increases of online universities throughout the United States, the old fashion brick and mortar university are limited. The supply of universities are available are constant, with more freshman registering at a gradual rate, and as a result tuition is increase for the university. “According to the College Board, a not-for-profit membership association comprised of more than 5,400 schools, colleges, universities, and other educational organizations, the national average cost for a year of education at a private four-year college costs $25,143 annually (up 5.9 percent from last year) and $6,585 for a public four-year university (up 6.4 percent)”(Coleman, 2009). Online colleges, like the University of Phoenix, can serve as a strong substitute to regular colleges because of its accommodating concept. Online courses can serve as a gateway to other opportunities to get into a better college, or best case scenario, a better paying job. Like regular colleges, the supply for online universities is finite, and unlike universities, the demand is not as strong as a regular university....

...undergraduates in employment, and working independent undergraduates averaging 34.5 hours per week – little attention has been given to how working influences the integration and engagement experiences of students who work, especially those who work full-time, or how the benefits and costs of working differ between traditional age-students and adult students (Perna, 2010). There are thousands of scholarships available, and the financial aid they offer gives a huge advantage to the student and his or her parents. But being supported by the government in paying for one’s college costs are not the only benefits included (Thomas, 2010). ...beyond their school years? This paper will discuss two established methods of assessing student learning, CCSS and PARCC, their strengths and weaknesses as well as discuss issues involving the assessment of student learning. Standardized Tests Standardized testing was established under the premise that it would improve teaching practices and methods, therefore improving schools. In essence it is deemed as the “report card for the community” and the efficiency of our schools performance. Besides state specific standardized test, other national standardized tests include: * Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT)- administered to students applying to private secondary schools and some public secondary schools * Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT)- voluntary test given to secondary school students in year 10 or 11 to assist them in preparing for the SAT and to qualify for national merit scholarships * Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)- a proficiency test designed to measure knowledge and skill in understanding and using written English required of international students * SAT/ACT Critics claim that these tests provide the venue...

...average student. You are on athletic teams, but not the superstar athlete of your high school by any means. Students believe that they need to be the best at everything to receive a scholarship of any type, but that’s where a lot of them think wrong. Scholarships are available to almost any student and can be granted to students for more than just grades and athletics. The possibilities for scholarships are limitless and give you the best way to have some or even all of your college education paid for. Growing up many students think they need to be in the top ten or getting straight A’s and passing every test. Which isn’t completely wrong because when you do fall into that category it can make receiving scholarships an easier process. Although, if you don’t fall into that category scholarships are nowhere near impossible to receive because of the hundreds of options provided by companies and colleges in every state. Academic scholarships often called merit scholarships or awards, can be obtained by students who weren’t first in their class maybe, but still received good grades and show characteristics of a good student(“Types” para 2). Every academic scholarship is going to have different requirements and monetary amounts that can be awarded. A lot of companies offering scholarships look for individuals who possess leadership...

When I heard that ACCA is offering a scholarship, I was very elated to apply because I am cognizant that this opportunity seldom occurs and therefore I want to explore my chance of obtaining a scholarship awards. I believe that an award of scholarship can help me to realize my full potential in various ways. I believe that a scholarship award will help me to impart my requisite skills and knowledge to the wider society and by doing so; I will also fulfill my national and societal role. Right from the start, my attitude towards the ACCA course has been to take up new challenges and overcome them one at a time. This is evident from my consistent high scores, which helped me secure the top ranks in Singapore in the following subjects - 1st in Paper T3, 2nd in Paper F6, and 3rd in Paper T6. I also secured world ranks in Paper T3 and T6 - 3rd and 6th respectively. Hard work and dedication have similarly resulted in my obtaining an overall score of 87 in CAT and 80 in ACCA till date. I am currently working towards securing a world rank in my remaining subjects. My short term goal is to be a part of a financial team. I am committed to growing in that field in order to accomplish my long term goal of becoming a crucial part in running a company. Since I have a good merit and distinction in ACCA examinations, I am confident of my application for the Simpson Scholarship. This scholarship will definitely reduce the financial burden of this course, and...

...Introduction “If our political progress was to be real, the underdogs of our society must be helped to become men” (Rabindranath Tagore, Letters from Russia) The debate on affirmative action in India is long and not always geared to the desired aim: creation of equality of opportunity. Just like Indian secularism, reservation system in India has always a different political aim to make the system more unequal than what it is. Indian secularism, rather than making the state independent of religion, is intended to provide special privileges to certain religious groups. Similarly Indian affirmative system is politically designed to provide restricted rights not equal rights to some chosen people. The affirmative action in India has started perhaps by Vice-Roy Curzon in 1905 by banning the employment of Hindu Bengalis in the government services; the official argument was that they were too advanced and taking away job opportunity from others particularly the Muslims. Later it was extended in the military services by giving preferential treatments for Muslims and Sikhs branding them as martial races. Reservations in government jobs were introduced in 1918 in Mysore in favor of a number of castes and communities that had little share in the administration. In 1909 and in 1919 similar reservation system was introduced for the Muslims in British India. In 1935, for pure political reason the British...
