Natural Connections
Early works of literature show many concepts of emotion from anger and wrath, to love and devotion. In these works, it is sometimes not easy to find what the author is tying say or convey when it comes to his or her work. As a reader, it can be difficult to comb through what the author is trying to establish in their work, whether it be love, hate, envy, or a personal struggle for the intended characters. In some of the more modern works, it is apparent that romantic emotion is a constant and can easily be discerned from each individual piece. In John Keats’ “Ode to a Nightingale”, it is automatically assumed that the narrator is speaking of something that is loved. In this case, it appears as if the narrator is speaking of a bird, but it can also be said that he is speaking about a love, or lover, that he had once and then lost. In the first stanza, the first line, it suggests that he is missing a piece of himself, and his ‘heart aches’. He later describes this ache as the complete opposite of what it is to be in the ‘singest of summer in full-throated ease.’ (pg. 2160, 10) As the poem continues, Keats continues to use descriptions of nature and other things, showing a true connection there between the way the narrator feels and how it compares to certain aspects of nature and natural things.
In the second stanza, the narrator continues to describe his heart break, and the things that he would like to do. In the final line of the stanza he says ‘That I might drink, and leave the world unseen, and with thee fade away in the forest dim.’ (pg. 2160, 20) It can be suggested by this that the narrator is in so much pain that he’d like to disappear into a deep dark forest and never resurface again, that he couldn’t bare life without the love that he had lost. It could also possibly be used as a metaphor for suicide if one wanted to look even deeper and perhaps read between the lines. And so the piece continues, the narrator, speaking of Death and what it would be like to just fade away into nature, because the love he had lost is truly gone.
Annette von Droste-Hulishoff, author of “In the Grass”, uses nature in a completely different way than Keats, but often touches on the same kind of subject, romance. While hers isn’t straight out about a love lost, or someone longing for something or someone, she uses romance to describe something. In the third stanza of the poem, she describes ‘hours, more fleeting are you than the kiss.’ She may not be particularly describing someone in love, or some kind of ruined affair or whirlwind romance, but she uses love, such as the kiss, to define and describe nature and the beauty that nature holds. It is something she definitely has in common with Keats and many of the other great poets and writers, but at the same time there are many more differences. Keats’ narrator was heartbroken, needing something to ease the pain. Droste-Hulishoff uses the positives of love to describe what is happening in the busy grass.
Henry David Thoreau, author of “Walden”, writes of nature in his works. His works, however, don’t have a feel of romance, but more of something matter-of-fact. He describes, in the first couple of lines of ‘from Spring’ that the tonic of wilderness is something everyone needs. He describes nature as mysterious, something that needs to be explored and discovered, unfurled in all its many wonders. Unlike Keats and Droste-Hulishoff, nature is something magical and special and something a great many people seem to take for granted. It isn’t just described, but brought to life in more ways than one as is the power of words. As the reader journeys on, they are captured by the wording that Thoreau uses. The reader could almost imagine themselves in that setting with ease, a great quality for any writer to have, a quality that both Keats and Droste have as well. As we move further into “from Spring”, we see Thoreau’s vision further explored. He explains that ‘we can never have enough of Nature’, leading to believe that no matter who a person was, or where they were from, they couldn’t get too much of the good thing nature offered, the beauty of it is all around us. One only has to look, really look to see it. Thoreau does however, speak of love. Not the romantic type of love, but the love for something that is purely emotional all the same. “I love to see that Nature is so rife with life that myriads can be afforded to be sacrificed and suffered to prey on one another.” There are many kinds of love and it doesn’t always have to be a romantic plot, as some of the others have shown well. But that’s not to say every once in a while, a good love story isn’t needed all the same.
Whether it is the physical kind of love, like Keats describes in “Ode to a Nightingale”, or something being compared to something beautiful in Annette’s “In the grass”, or even a physical love for nature as in Thoreau’s “Walden”, the same can be said for all of these works. Love is something that transcends time and space, and is used through history in many writings. Even writers, such as Hesoid, Sophocles, and Plato all wrote about love and how it is defined in the individual. Love is something that, even if it isn’t outright romantic, can be written about in any era, and has been over and over. Keats, Annette, and Thoreau, all from different periods of time, come together under one aspect and that aspect is love. It brings together author and reader and makes something magical, timeless, and something that is always remembered. So whether reading a timeless tale such as “Ode to a Nightingale” or something familiar such as Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”, love is something that can be found, monopolized, and used to captivate any reader. Romance is, and always will be, as timeless as any other emotion.

Reflection

...Reflection: The Leadership Mystique Leadership is strongly depending upon the complexity patter among leader, follower, and situation. Successful leaders often fulfill two roles. Taking on the charismatic role allows leaders to envision, empower, and energize their followers through motivation. In the has hand, there is a fine balance when leader must take an instrumental role and approach as an organization designer, keep control, and reward behavior appropriately. Our goal as a leader is to determine the company’s needs and derive our commitment to that direction. In order to pursue the route, it all starts with a vision. Once defined it take that leader to themselves and all they influence with this vision. The vision is driven by the environment and leader ability to understand how which direction the environment moving in problem solving. It’s found that people are motivated if they commit themselves to vision statement that applies to the mission statement. It must be more than words, but inspirational. When working to define your mission, another key factor is to focus on your enemy. Doing this will inspire the competitive flare and provides the focus and concentration to achieve success. Another factor that make leader stand above all is their ability to get people engaged and involved. “Effective leaders are very good at building alliances and creating commitment so that other will share their vision.” They empower! Skills Any Leader Should Possess

...What skills any leader should posses. Not only in the work place, the military, or the government, should their be true sense of leadership but also in our households. The boss is the leader in the workplace, the President is the leader in the military, the people are supposed to be the leaders in the government, and moms and dads should be the leaders in a household. People look up the these people not as just humans but as people who will further their career or end it. They see them as people who will save their lives, or save their kids' lives. They see them as people who will mold the world into what we "the people" see best, or like right now to some, make it worse. With this these people are put into leadership roles, and as followers we don't want to see them as shady or not trustworthy. Therefore leaders need to be honest, dependable, and presentable. The people you lead are a reflection of yourself. Therefore you need to hold your morals, such as honesty to a higher level. Put faith into your employees and they will put faith into you and know that they will get an honest answer. This will ensure better profits, and loyal followers. For a business that means greater chance of success. For the government it means loyalty and less riots or government shut downs. For the military it could mean as much as saving a whole companies lives, or having fewer indiscrepencies with soldiers. In the household it could mean the world to a child, and will set the moral standard...

This I Believe

...Some people believe in empathy, some people believe in power, others believe in commitment. I believe in the power of relating. When a leader relates to a follower, they understand what the follower is going through in the particular situation. When this happens it makes everything else go smoothly. And when things go smoothly then everything else falls into place. Having the ability to relate to people gives you a great connection with the people around you, it allows you to connect with them in a way that is like no other. When a person knows that they are not alone in a situation or knows that you have been through it or can (relate) to them then it builds confidence. You are leading them through a situation that is unfamiliar to them, and with relating to the situation you help them through it and give them light in the darkness. In my family my mom and dad would always have the power to relate to what I was going through. They always had a way of relating to what I was going through in life. It didn’t matter if it was a simple thing as in a bad grade on a test or whether my coach got on me at practice, they were always there for my support and understood what I was going through. One person that always knew I could relate to them and help them through situations was my brother. My brother is 3 years younger than me. He has always looked to me for answers. He knows that I have been through it all and he knows that he can come to me as a leader to help him through...

Bad Break-Ups and Madness: a Natural Connection

...Bad Break-ups and Madness: A Natural Connection Bryan Pi FRLT 46 Prof. Loucif Bryan Pi FRLT 46 Final Paper Bad Break-ups and Madness: A Natural Connection Sexuality and romance form a very strong bond between people that goes far deeper than a mere sexual attraction. When two people fall in love or even start engaging in sexual behavior, an attachment is formed that is very powerful and can stray how our minds function. In many cases, after engaging in sexual intercourse, our brains are tricked into believing that a person is perfect for us and that it can only be this person that we may fall in love with. We become infatuated with our lover and even obsess over them in their absence. When we are with them, we can't stop thinking about how perfect the situation is. When we are apart from them, we think about nothing else but the next time we will see them. We think about what our partner is doing when they're away and worrying about if they are okay. A separation from our partners for long periods of time causes our minds to think of nothing else but whether or not they are finding love elsewhere. This anxiety is the direct result of this separation and is a major contributor to the development of mental illnesses. It is not always a physical distance between these people that defines this separation. Quite often, a couple can still be living under the same roof but also feel this separation in a more emotional sense. This can be in the form of a distraction...

Skywest Bod Recommdation

The executive team gives three main problems, which are SkyWest Reliance on United and Delta for its customers and revenue, Atlantic Southeast Airline’s poor customer service, and SkyWest has High Operating Costs as compared to competitors. However, the executive team just focuses on first two of them and gives the recommendations. The first recommendation is try to acquire contracts with low-cost providers, such as Southwest and JetBlue. We are agreeing with this recommendation. Because, if SkyWest only rely on United and Delta, it will increase their financial risk, assume one of them have a financial or managerial problem, the SkyWest will have a hard time, and that not only will affect their total revenue, but their public reputation and the power of competitive in this market. Also, only have United and Delta will limited the resource of income; therefore, find some more copartner is reasonable, but due to the SkyWest’s financial situation, the low-cost providers can be on the list. However, the question is whether Southwest and JetBlue, they are individual company, and they doing well on their business, so why they will come to SkyWest? What benefit that SkyWest can provide to those companies due to their current finical situation or the future years? We need more detail. The second recommendation is SkyWest share customer service strengths with ASA. And we agree with this recommendation. For any customer, when they...

...type of partnership, regional airlines typically receive a contracted departure fee and are sometimes offered incentives for airline performance such as being on time. The airline industry is vulnerable in many ways. They have vulnerability to market changes, fuel costs, regulations, weather, and customer preferences. Being a smaller company also puts them at risk of being disenfranchised by the larger, network airlines. In 2006, regional airlines had some of the worst on time records in the industry. They also had six out of seven worst records for cancelled flights. My analysis has shown that some of these issues were actually by caused the network airlines, which control the schedule. Network airlines were scheduling flight connections too tight, not giving regional’s enough time to load and unload passengers. Another complication faced by the smaller regional companies comes from their dependence on smaller aircraft. While the smaller aircraft is perfectly suited to the...

...Drug trafficking is a very important subject to study, since it is the basis for helping us limit or prevent it. Studying it gives us a better understanding of the personal and psychological motives behind drug dealers and smugglers to initiate in the process, of the violent crimes behind these activities, of the drug movement itself, and of the society we live in. Aware of the importance of having knowledge about drug traffic and smugglers, and conscious of the “enormous research potential in studying them,” Patricia A. Adler, the author of “Researching Dealers and Smugglers” and her husband Peter decided to study this subject more in depth. A legitimate motivation the author might have had for researching the subject is the significant boom that this research could have to her professional career, because she would offer a completely new perspective of drug trafficking. While studying and analyzing the drug dealers, Mrs. Adler and her husband took a different approach. She felt that past researchers all did the same mistake: they usually wanted to understand the world of criminals from their own perspective. This means that they usually tried to obtain information in a very systematic and distant way, without taking risks or dealing directly with the people involved. The problem with this is that that way the information obtained is not necessarily correct, and it may be vague and not concrete. Dealers may not feel comfortable enough to reveal such safe and risky information...

Inflation, a slumping economy, high fuel prices, and high unemployment all serve to add to consumer uncertainty toward the future. Taking this into consideration, there is perhaps no other industry directly impacted by these issues than the airline industry. With high unemployment and a recessive economy, families cannot afford to take vacations that require flying. Businesses that are hurting financially will use other means, (such as Teleconferencing) to coordinate nationally and internationally instead of flying. Today, many consumer attitudes towards the entire flying experience range from a necessary nuisance to a nightmare. Flying today in the post 9-11 world, has become an unpleasant experience to say the least. From check-in to baggage pick...
