...NBT 1 Task 1 In scenario 2, Mr. Collet encourages positive social interaction by allowing some of the homework assignments to be developed by the class as they go along. In the 7th and 8th grade students are becoming more social and this gives them to opportunity to work together to come up with creative homework solutions. This not only allows them to be engaged in the class but also with each other and keeps a relaxed and pleasant work environment (Wong, 1998). Mr. Collet also encourages self-motivation by having the students keep a day planner and to be responsible for copying their homework assignments down rather than having it handed to them. In the 7th and 8th grade students begin preparing for college and by teaching them early to set aside study time by keeping a planner builds good habits for the rest of their education (Savage, 2009). They have a concrete manner in which to copy homework assignments but also to manage their free time which may be less and less as they get older and participate in more activities. Mr. Collet encourages active engagement in his class by working with the students on their day planner, picking up and turning in assignments on time and by giving them an opportunity to dispute and grading mistakes. In the 7th and 8th grade students are becoming more independent and building study skills that they will use later on. By working with them on their day planners, the teacher can show the students how to manage their time. Since...

...(F.O.E) is an experience differing from person to person stating that something has gone wrong during a reasoning or calculation task. The primary goal of the article was to assess the accuracy of F.O.E in the context of mental mathematical calculation. Number bisection task (N.B.T) was used to evoke this metacognitive feeling and it was assessed by asking participants if they felt that they committed a mistake. In this task the participant were asked whether the number in the middle of a triplet corresponds to the arithmetic mean of the outer two numbers (e.g 07_16_25) with a yes or no answer. The result from the study showed that the F.O.Es were strongly correlated with arithmetic errors and properties of the triplets. This finding indicates that even very fast metacognitive feelings are reliable when it comes to evaluating one’s own mental performance. The occurrence of F.O.E is determined also by the fluency with each triplet was solved and the post decision process after answering. In addition the participants were asked to report their confidence in their answer when there was no report of an F.O.E. This was to test whether there was a feeling of error on a sub-conscious level even when it wasn’t consciously reported. AIM OF THE EXPERIMENT: 1. To prove metacognitive feeling of error is a reliable error signal during calculation. 2. The fluency and post decision evaluation processes jointly determine feelings of error 3. Implicit detection of error can occur...

...committing unethical business practices is so common place in society now that is can be considered a cliché. Companies like Valeant, Turning and even Johnson and Johnson, have all been in the news over unethical business practices whether they be price gouging, monopolization or product misrepresentation; each of these circumstances has caused an uproar from consumers and even federal government agencies are now beginning to investigate these companies for wrong doing. Valeant Pharmaceuticals is the most recent perpetrator of predatory pricing; on February 10, 2015 Valeant purchased the rights to a pair of life saving heart drugs Nitropress and Isurprel, on that same day the price rose 525% and 212% respectively (Rockoff & Silverman. 2015, p.1). ...1. Introduction Global environmental problems have become serious issues in previous decades, and global warming is the oneof them that people are aware of. It is widely accepted that global warming is caused by fossil fuels and therefore fossil fuels should be replaced with clean energy sources to reduce carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, energy demand today is much higher than ever before and it will increase by fifty percentages in the next 20 years according to Energy Information Agency (IEA) report. The main alternative energy sources to fossil fuel are biofuels which have received much attention worldwide and they have already generated 45% of all energy from natural fuels in Brazil.(Sims & Taylor, 2008) The most widely used biofuel is the first generation biofuel which is make from plants like sugarcane, oilseed. By using these kinds plants, ethanol and oil can be produced.(Ahmad, Mat Yasin, Derek, & Lim, 2011) In this essay, innovations in biofuels will be divided into 3 sectors with examples illustrated. 2. The Innovation Dimension 3.1 Innovation Type Innovation can be divided into four types: production innovation, process innovation, position innovation and paradigm innovation. (Tidd, Bessant, & Pavitt, 2005)In the biofuel sector, product innovation and process innovation are widely used. Product innovations are changes in the products which an organization offers. Process innovations are changes in the ways in which...

...CHAPTER 15: COMPETENCY-BASED PAY Overview: This chapter looks at pay based on competencies, the knowledge, skills, and abilities that make employees valuable to an organization. INTRODUCTION The distinguished Management educator, Ed Lawler, in an article looking back at the dot-com era and its implications for the future of Compensation Administration concludes that this era "accelerated an inevitable move from focusing on paying individuals for the job they do to paying individuals for the skills knowledge and competencies they have."1 This is not the only article that states that paying for the person would replace paying for the job in the future. There was a whole rash of articles in the late 1980's to the mid 1990's that carried the same theme. It is significant that since then there has not been more attention paid to this idea. Competency pay is a fancy term given to the idea of paying for the person rather than the job. In fact, very few compensation plans pay for only one thing. As discussed in the first chapter of this text, pay can be based upon the job, the person or their performance, and most systems are combinations of all three. The real questions are which one will be the base platform for the other two and what weight will each have in the decision of how much to pay the individual. The past chapter focused upon a compensation system based upon the job. In the chapters that follow this one, we will examine how factors relating to the person and to his or...

...features of the two operating systems and then we make a comparison of a selection of vulnerabilities most of which we know have been used for making real intrusions. We found that Windows NT has slightly more rigorous security features than “standard” UNIX but the two systems display similar vulnerabilities. The conclusion is that there are no significant differences in the “real” level of security between these systems. †Presented at the Third Nordic Workshop on Secure IT Systems, NORDSEC’ 5-6 November, 1998, Trondheim, Norway. 98, 1. Introduction It has been claimed that the security of Windows NT is far better than that of previous commercial operating systems. In order to verify (or refute) this statement we have made a brief comparison of the security of Windows NT to that of UNIX. UNIX was selected as a reference since it is well-known and widely spread. Thus, the target systems were (1) a networked Windows NT 4.0 and (2) UNIX with NFS (Network File System) and NIS (Network Information System). The reason for choosing NFS and NIS is that the two operating systems constitute comparable environments, i.e. they have similar network functionality. It should, however, be stressed that UNIX comes in many different versions, so our reference is not completely unambiguous. Still, we believe that this fact does not...

...Version 1.4b GIAC GSEC Practical Assignment August 21, 2003 Abstract Marketing trends estimate that by the end of 2006, 21 million homes will have implemented a Local Area Network (LAN), and of those 21 million homes 65% will use wireless solutions. [1] The rapidly decreasing cost for wireless devices and the proliferation of wireless solutions provided by the major Internet Service Providers seems to clearly support these growth estimates. Key fingerprint = AF19 FA27 2F94 998D FDB5 DE3D F8B5 06E4 A169 4E46 Home wireless users and security professionals the world over are conceptually trying to solve similar problems. They both need to find a way to provide a secure working environment. There are two distinct approaches to this security dilemma, security prevention, and security detection. An example of security prevention would be a firewall device that restricts specific traffic or ports to or from specific hosts. Although this provides protection against unauthorized traffic, it has no means for determining if an attack is being attempted via an authorized port. An example of security detection would be an IDS (Intrusion Detection System) device that contains a signature to identify a specific attack via authorized or unauthorized ports. [2] Security professionals often have the technology and resources to develop security solutions based on prevention, detection, or a combination of the two. However, home wireless users do not have the luxury of evaluating their security approach...

Compiled by Melisa Hancock (Send feedback to: melisa@ksu.edu) 1 Mathematical Practice Standards (MP) summary of each standard 1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. Mathematically proficient students interpret and make meaning of the problem looking for starting points. In Kindergarten, students begin to build the understanding that doing mathematics involves solving problems and discussing how they solved them. Students explain to themselves the meaning of a problem and look for ways to solve it. Younger students may use concrete objects or pictures to help them conceptualize and solve problems. They may check their thinking by asking themselves, ―Does this make sense?‖ or they may try another strategy. 2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively. Mathematically proficient students make sense of quantities and their relationships. Younger students begin to recognize that a number represents a specific quantity. Then, they connect the quantity to written symbols. Quantitative reasoning entails...
