Tutoring Center Essay

The NCC (Norwalk Community College) Tutoring Center, was designed to help students be successful and excel with their college career. This program is well designed to fit any student’s needs. It offers a variety of tutors for just about every class offered at NCC, and the tutors are prepared to work around the student’s schedules. The Tutoring Center is fully paid for by NCC, therefore no student needs to pay out of pocket or go to an expensive tutor. Every student should be able to use this program to enhance their college experience.

When most students where asked about the Tutoring Center, they didn’t know what it was or what it offered. Upon further investigation of the campus tutoring center, I learned the tutoring center can help with any subject including accounting, business, CADD, computer science, ESL, foreign languages, humanities, math, science, social science, writing (any subject), and any other subjects upon request. The Tutoring Center is located in Room 110, West Campus. The fall and Spring Semester hours are Monday - Thursday: 9:30 am to 9:00 pm, Friday: 9:30- am to 2:00 pm, Saturday: 10:00 am - 3:00 and Sunday it’s closed. The tutoring center is a nice quiet place to get your work done while asking vital questions to learning the material you did not understand. Every tutor in the tutoring center is internationally certified through the College Reading and Learning Association which means they are able to help anyone understand what they need to learn for classes. Although the tutoring center cannot help with take home tests, do someone’s homework for them, or teach them new material they missed in class, they are a major resource on campus to help further a college education. They will enhance all the subject of problem and put the any individual’s mind at ease when it comes to academics.

Diane Donovan is the tutoring center coordinator. She is in charge of hiring students from within the college that maintain a 4.0 GPA in the class that they are tutoring, and professionals with diplomas to help students read and write essays. Other students on campus are not allowed to edit or revise essays, only professors with diplomas are permitted. When you call Diane at the campus tutoring center number she will speak with you about an appropriate time to set up an appointment, and for what subject areas need to be worked on. She will then get someone to help work on the subject matter with you on your subsequent appointment. The tutor’s main goal is to make sure that the student comprehends the material and can apply as needed.

Many teachers recommend that students who are having problems in class attend the tutoring center. When preparing for a test, you can go to the tutoring center for extra help on a concept you didn’t fully understand with specific questions, and your tutor can help you to the best of their abilities. Even if you want to go with a group of people from class the tutors can counsel in a group session. A group of people is always better than one, because the other can help you understand a concept in ways that you didn’t even of on your own. Always go to the tutoring center before you need the help and do not wait until the night before something is due. Plan your visits to the tutoring center wisely because a tutor may not always be available to help when you need it. The tutoring center is always there to help but only when you’re responsible to get the help you need how and when you need it.

In conclusion, the Tutoring Center has helped many students achieve their goals and is still helping many others to stay on track. Even though it isn’t mandatory that students attend, professors still recommend going to let the tutors observe your work and give hints on where you could excel. No matter what subject the Tutoring Center will always accommodate your needs. Although they cannot do the work for you, they will put their best forward to see you succeed. Many students don’t realize that this resource is available to them on campus therefor they fail test, assignments and ultimately fail their classes.
