Influences in the Teaching Environment Shemeka M. Murray
Grand Canyon University: EDU-536

Would you like to be a student in our classroom? Is the classroom conducive for learning? There are many factors that can have a negative impact on teaching environment. The environment can be influenced by both external and internal factors. If these factors can be controlled properly, the environment could take a turn for the better. In the following paragraphs I will identify ten of many conditions or disruptive behaviors that I have witnessed to have a negative influence the teaching environment. I will start with the external and work my way into the classroom. Also, I will offer my suggestion of strategies that may be used to create a positive learning environment that will be conducive for learning. District/Board
The district has authority of overseeing the local schools. The elected board controls the hire of the superintendent, who implements policy and oversees the daily operations of the schools. The district and board must adhere to state guidelines and policies. The curriculum that is used in the classroom is implemented at this level and must be aligned with the state standards that will be tested statewide. Most teachers feel pressured to teach to the test and don’t find time to make it appealing to the learner. Kohn, a former teacher, is very critical of the traditional instruction, stating that it focuses on getting students to behaviorally demonstrate certain objectives.(Charles, 2010). I believe that the curriculum is evolving to be more student-centered. I think that a well-designed curriculum will capture the learners’ attention.
Parental Involvement
I can’t emphasize enough how vital the parent’s role is in a child’s education. The parent plays an intricate role in child's education. It is so important for

...is well documented that the Media, particularly Hollywood, is one of avenues in which the general public has become familiar with the role of nurses. This is proven based on many healthcare episodes on televisions, theatres, and the news coverage. The media often times negatively influences the public image of nursing by repeatedly broadcasting news coverage of nurses that have made mistakes on the job. Unfortunately, on these occasions, those mistakes have led to detrimental consequences for patients. It is very rare to see news coverage of hard working proficient nurses who effectively perform their jobs treating patients and assisting physicians. In most of the healthcare episodes or scenes, nurses are hardly featured but physicians are featured all through the episodes. If the media were to show coverage of hard working capable nurses, which include the vast majority of practicing nurses, it would have had great positive influences on the public’s opinion on nurses whose goal is to provide patients’ quality care, safety, and healthcare information both to the patients and their families. ...How should today’s youth combat negative moral influences? “Come on, just take it!” the girl said while passing him the blunt. The boy hesitated before taking it, he didn’t want to smoke, but then again, he was sick of being called a coward. “Sure why not?” he said. This scenario was an example of a negative influence. Some other influences are video games that contain sex, profanity, and violence, negative peer pressure that can get youth into trouble, and TV and movies that emphasize sex, profanity, and gore. These influences effect teenagers and lead teens into trouble. Society needs to find alternative outlets for teens to plug into in order to avoid these negative influences. The main negative moral influence is video games. Games rated “MA” or “T” can sometimes be too violent and may have a lot of nudity. Having young teens exposed to this kind of materials can put them in the mindset that this kind of behavior is acceptable in the real world. A few games like “Grand Theft Auto”, “Mortal Combat”, and “Call of Duty” contain violence and too much gore. What teens can do to avoid their interaction with these games is to play less video games and find other things to do such as, playing outside, go to the mall with their friends, or even join after school clubs and activities.
