The Victorian notion of rape culture is not a strong viewpoint that universities should guide rape off of. The Victorian rape culture argues “the male is the guardian of female safety” in my opinion this is incorrect. By this logic, the term adult is loosely phrased and females should be subordinates of males. Females should be able to guide themselves and be able to distinguish right from wrong. Why else did women become strong figureheads in the corporate world? The arguments by Heath MacDonald in his article “Neo-Victorianism on Campus” demonstrate how false rape accusations are being justified and leading to males being punished for the females actions. Rape and sexual abuse on college campuses is unjust and bias towards females. For example, if a female is attempting to seduce a male into sex then both parties should be held equally responsible. The example offered by McDonald should not be classified as rape because the female asked if the male had a condom giving consent, and she texted her friend after the incident. She had a clear understanding of what she was getting herself into and should be held accountable for falsely accusing the male. The female abused her powers and turned in the male to the authorities. The male was found guilty and had his reputation ruined from her lies. Colleges and the government should take this example and realize they are making a mistake. They are ruining student’s lives and opportunity of securing a successful job. If these females want to abuse their power then they should be held equally responsible as the male
